Bravo, Devs!

Really? Maybe it's because I saw the villain arcs first, but I really wasn't impressed with the hero arcs. For one thing, I thought Keith Nance was very poorly written. And what the heck is this S.A.M. nonsense?

I'd swear that the version of Protean in the hero mission has a shorter wind-up time on his Power Siphon than the version in the villain arc; I was consistently able to joust him on a villain, but not on a hero. And either there's something weird with that map or there's something weird with him, because in the hero arc, Power Siphon was firing around corners and through pillars, whereas I was able to dodge him in the villain arc just by getting a catwalk between us.

So, having only run it so far on a tanker, and having discovered that even with a Shivan and a full tray of inspirations that I was never going to take him down, I auto-completed the mission and I haven't seen the final cut scene. But I don't expect to like it, because I hated basically everything involving the "good double." I particularly loathed the game mechanic of him supposedly off doing his own thing in the same mission map as me, when I could easily tell that he was doing no such thing. It was just completely unconvincing, really fake.

It also boggled my mind that the first arc paid 5 merits for what amounts to one multi-part mission with one easy-peasy EB in it. Heroes get paid just for breathing, I swear.

Is it wrong to get upset by that final mission cutscene?
Yes.

I've only played one of the four arcs (the first villain one), and it was fantastic. I can't wait to see what the second has in store for me.

Play "Two Households Alike" (#126582) and "The Christmas We Get" (#356477) and then call me heartless.

That cut scene is a cheap reach for the heartstrings. You want a canon heroic sacrifice done right? Two words: Sefu Tendaji. What we got in this arc was strictly amateur night, the equivalent of the grade-Z horror movie Spring Loaded Cat trick.

Guess you can't please everyone.

I love both arcs. I suddenly noticed my exp bar because, for the first time since hunting VG merits above all else on my Sword/Shield scrapper, I had completely forgotten about it. Why?

Because the story and mission layout was great and not just a backdrop to levelling.

It was immersive and engaging and above all FUN. Unlike SO much else of the blueside content, especially anything outside of The Hollows and Faultline at low levels, which is shockingly old and dull, dull, dull.

More, please. Revamps; no I won't shut up about them.

You probably missed the parts of those two missions (Part 2) that had the impassable locked doors. It was a really cheap explanation, I understand, but at least it helped me understand where my double was supposed to be in the mission.

I thought it was awesome and very moving.

I've seen a lot of people say this, and I can't really undrstand why. They were both excellent, but I don't think either set was better. They both kicked equal amounts of ***.

Hmm... maybe that's why. So, then, it's not that the arcs are better, is that the flavor text is finally right.

I never expected anything other than City of Heroes for City of Villains, so the flavor text never mattered to me.

Oh goodness yes. And the Hero Arcs didn't get changed until near the end of Closed Beta. I got in on the next to last wave, and Nance was still going on abou this ninjas. >.< The story didn't make much sense, you had to fight your full-powered double in every mission, and when they use Build Up -> Throwing Knives for 300 DAMAGE, it's not fun.

Nance and his S.A.M. ninjas were a bit...weird

Okay all, I gotta say it does my CoX fanboi heart good to hear all the STRONGLY positive comments here. Sure, not everyone likes everything...ya can't please everybody and we ARE a choosy bunch around here, but it sounds like overall the Devs are still comitted to bringing us a game we want to play...though not necessarily always THE game we want to play.

Techbot - You go right on crowin' about revamps. Lots of people have wanted revamps of older content for a while though I think in retrospect we can all see where the dev group have had their own problems until fairly recently. Plus there's still the paradigm of New Content > Old Content. That's a hard one to get over.

I can't wait to dive in, and now that my wife's back from seeing her family maybe we can dive in together.

Yes, my wife plays. She even has TWO accounts.

Yes, I married well...but let's not make this about me. Let's make it about the I17 content, okay?

Okay.

We finally got a lackey, a minion, a stooge - not to mention the arcs are very self-centered! Instead of a boss that acts like he's all that! :P
And yeah, I love the way the missions work tech wise - all the new stuff they did, the dialogues, the mission design.

In a perfect world with infinite dev hours to do everything they want it's a great idea. Who wouldn't like that? It'd be like voting against Mom and Apple Pie.

In the real world it just isn't the most efficient use of limited resources.

I'd love it if they revamped one old TF per Issue - like a revamped Synapse TF for I18, and then a revamped Sister Psyche TF for I19 and so on.

I have finally finished the new Hero and Villain arcs and want to say that they are all fantastic, especially the Villain arc with the clone testing.

If this is a sign of things to come in GR, I'm really excited for the future of this game. These arcs were fantastic. While there are better stories, they are only mostly told through text. For these arcs, the map modifications, spawn layouts, and NPC interaction are the best in the game. They turn a decent story into an AWESOME story arc.

The new Positron TFs are also fantastic.

Kudos to all the people involved in writing/designing them!

Man, I sure did today on my 28 Blapper. Just could not take him down before he'd kill me. Luckily, I put out the call to the LoV and got another five members to come and help. We reset to AV and took him down. Those two arcs heroside were great fun! Content-wise, this issue's a major winner!

Dec out.

I also really like the new content (and i17 in general).

I've done the new villain arcs solo and teamed, and they're very well done. I've not quite completed the second hero arc, but I'm enjoying the hero-side equivalent as well.

"Two thumbs up"

Easily the best arc in the whole game is the Dean/Leonard series. The story is just OK, but the quality of the writing, and fun and cool and wow factor, are over the top.

It accomplishes quite a lot of what many have been asking fot from villain arcs.

Somebody deserves another of those gift baskets.

A game is not supposed to be some kind of... place where people enjoy themselves!

I realy like the new missions it's the first time I've felt like I'm in a comic rather than in a game.
