I was thinking the other day about how many games, MMO or otherwise have characters that I would consider the epitome of that series

for instance, Star Wars it would be Jedi, WoW(icky) Would be a Paladin etc.
I got to thinking about what would be classic in this game.

What do nyou think it is. A typical INV?SS tanker or someone using electricity. what about travel powers, fly is classic, but teleport is more prevalent.

what are your opinions on the subject.

(If I'm not being clear let me know)

I don't think any single type comes to my mind, because there are so many - which IS what comes to mind.

"Flexibility" and "creative control" are the things which have long defined this game's appeal.

I would suggest though, perhaps the "FREEM" energy blaster flying in snug tights with a cape, being the kind of idea that folks would imagine *before* playing

There really isn't any, IMHO, and I believe it's set up that way on purpose. Frankly, the super-hero "genre" is one of the most flexible that exists (as noted above), because you can fit just about any other genre inside it. Comicbook worlds contain pirates and ninjas and catgirls and private detectives and et cetera et cetera. Everyone's welcome!

A look at my site will show someone that's very interested in comic book archetypes. I have over 100, almost every one an homage of some kind or another and I certainly haven't done them all yet.

Dec out.

while the freedom of the character creator is definitely the star of the show, id say that in my opinion, the character combination that i think of the most with coh as highlighting our unique strengths would be an energy/energy blaster. iconic power blasts, the oh so satisfying knockback that viscerally illustrates when you have slammed an enemy into next week, and the madness of a fully boosted nova. it isnt my main, nor even my second tier personally, due to my love of melee, but if i were to see a "iconic" coh character, that is what would come to mind.

Hence, "Freem".

As I already play without sound (performance issues with this game--anyway), I would love for my powers to have the garish comic book sound emotes.

Blue: ~Knockback Squad on Guardian~
Red: ~Undoing of Virtue on [3 guesses]~

Phil Foglio is awesome and now I must make a SPANC-style character.

*sigh* Reading the forums causes horrible flare-ups in my altitis...

It was so good that joke, that we now wait in anticipation every year for their new one

The "classic" of this game for me would be the atlas music with the camera in first person mode starting off at the new character entry location slowly looking up to the globe with heroes flying/tpin/jumpin/running past with finally a kheldian dwarf form tpin front of the camera doing a footstomp.

Classic AT though has to be controller

@Damz Find me on the global channel Union Chat. One of the best "chat channels" ingame!

<3 Studio Foglio

I saw a box for juggling balls the other day, and I swear it looked like Phil's art style... It was almost a character out of Girl Genius.

This too. The first thing really that came to my mind was the hero-side entry music. It's ... SO HEROIC! There's rarely a time when I hear that and don't automatically feel like everything is new and shiny and ooh lookit the buildings and they have a cape! It's not a visual thing so much as a whole-immersion feeling.

I think it's kind of funny that though many of us seem to see the Energy Blaster as an iconic COH type .... so many here also *hate knockback*.

I love it, myself, I think it's so superheroic it's ridiculous. I only wish we could then blast things THROUGH WALLS, but ... until they figure out the physics...

it is funny, but while as a melee heavy player, i understand the aversion people have to knockback(especially as a stalker..one more ruined assassin strike and im going to scream) it does look so damn cool that it just feels powerful. when i finish an enemy with crane kick, and i knock him across the room, that just puts the exclamation point on the BAM.

heck, i was driving myself nuts last night with my claws stalker in the arachnos wedding cake base, because focus kept knocking enemies off the ledges but not finishing them, but it still looked cool enough that i didnt change my chain to something that wouldn't raise my blood pressure.

I normally play res side and that may color my perceptions, but I believe I've heard that no other MMO has such a dedicated pet-heavy class as the MasterMind AT, so I'll go with that one.

"Minion Master" is a fairly common build style for PvE Necromancers (and sometimes even Ritualists) in Guild Wars. Necromancers built as Minion Masters can easily sustain 10 minions, and a Necromancer with "Masochism" (requires the EotN expansion to learn, and costs HP to activate) can easily sustain 11. Ritualists can summon stationary spirits, but they generally have a very long range, and have a much wider array of abilities than the Necromancer minions. (Necromancer minions basically attack and die. Some have ranged attacks, and some spawn a different minion when they die, but that's really all they do. Spirits can also have fairly potent buffs, debuffs, and mezzes, and AFAIK their range is longer than any enemy.)
