Epic Badge Accolade - Aye/Nay?

Hello all,

wanted to run this past the "Badging community" before either posting in the Suggestions forum or burning it

For this exercise I identify the "Epic" badges as:

Immortal
Exalted
Empath
Jailed
Leader
Paradigm
Fabricator
Power Seller
Ouroboros Mender

(Any thoughts on the list welcomed)

What would you think of an Accolade for holding all the above? Tracked the same as the "Defeat AV's".

Or if not an Accolade, any other recognition, such as a fancy title or some such thing (a Souped up version of a Vet reward say)

If you are an "Aye", then what would you consider a suitable reward for achieving that Accolade? Something special that would reflect the effort (lol or stupidity and/or shear Bloody mindedness) required to get them. And what name could such a special Accolade have?

If you are a "Nay" could you give your thoughts as to why. I have considered these by way of trying to judge the merits of my thoughts,
1. Holding these badges is enough reward anyway
2. Should we be encouraging badge farming
3. Would it be just another "Look what I got" posing trophy.

Other pertinent thoughts on the subject welcomed.

The devs have already made it pretty clear they don't want to encourage badge farming (not on purpose, anyway; they seem to do a pretty bad job of this however), and I agree with them.

I say nay as well, and I seriously loves me some badges.

I hated that I had to afk farm for Empath, Immortal and Jailed, and I did not enjoy the time I spent grinding with a non-farm-built Scrapper for Leader either. I say that the badges themselves are enough of a reward, without giving the people who go through hell to earn them a perk... which would make other people who aren't interested in badging for the sake of badging feel that they need to farm to get these badges, probably on most of their characters, etc etc.

Honestly, I think the epic Achievement badges should count globally (as in, any time you're playing a character that gets held, it counts towards the epic held badges for all characters) to further discourage badge farming, but that's a subject for a different thread.

OP: Accolades should, in theory, link a series of themed badges. Being hard isn't a theme, it's a design flaw. I vote nay on those grounds.

I personally think there should have been some sort of accolade connected to certain Ouroboros badges (If not all of them). Though I have no idea what the power/buff would be if there was one.

Maybe... more zones to exit to when leaving Ouroboros? (Though I'm not fully for that idea since it promotes abusing time travel to replace Paragon's public transit system.)

Got them all and I say
NAY to such a badge.

My main reason is they are "epic" enough as they are. No need to make another "almost" ungainable badge that requires in general Farming.

i say aye. more epics of any sort means something else to timesink. its real easy bring up the argument "the devs dont like farming for anything under any circumstances" when you are one of the ones who has already completed the badges which require @$$loads of farming/afkFARMING.

i would go further as to reset any requirements a player may already have to prevent retro-achieiving. Any EPIC should take a considerable amount of time...unless its EPIC enhancements...which are aquired easiest how?

w/o something to farm, nobody would play this game. farming is what keeps you playing when you cant find a team late at night early in the morning or when you DONT feel like teaming.

this game is all about farming. enchancements, badges, merits, monies, salvage, tickets, lvls. teaming is pretty much the only activity i do anymore for the love of the game, b/c teaming is counterproductive in CoX.

I'm going to have to completely agree with Snow Globe here.

I recall reading in Issue 5 that the original goal for the Epic badges was that they'd be earnable by most characters after five years of play. And yet, three months ago, on a character that was over 5½ years old, I still only had about 13 million points of damage. Seven months ago, I had a whopping 150 million inf worth of badge credit.

I spent several weeks last September/October doing nothing but inf grinding to hit Leader and a couple weeks AFK farming for damage to get the last damage badge in January. Neither were fun, but I suffered through them out of love for the game and for my character (as I did for 8 months worth of AFK heal farms in 2008).

The only i5 epic Achievement badges that I earned through normal play were the debt badges and the mentoring badges, and they were a lot more fun to earn--I earned them by actually playing the game with my friends, which is arguably the main focus of City of Heroes or any other MMO.

No, because there's no theme; no connection.

We have accolades for:
- completing the six 'signature TFs' - the connection is the characters are a key part of game lore.
- getting the badge from every safeguard.
- getting badges related to the Freedom Phalanx.
- getting badges related to Crey.
etc.

What does earning influence have to do with being mezzed????
What does healing people have to do with Wentworths????

I'm an avid BadgeHunter. I recently surpassed 600+ on my namesake. I have all but 2 of the badges listed above and am currently working on them.

I would love for an accolade power to be tied to having all of these epic badges. I think I would call it ... oh I don't know... [Ignore]

Ok, yes I'm being snarky. As Bill Z usually states, "There isn't enough Hell No!" for this suggestion.

You want to add accolades? Why don't you propose something a little more attainable by the general population. I have those badges, as I stated, on ONE Character. However, I get the accolades and powers on all my alts. Proposing this garbage would guarantee that I would break that pattern. I'm not going to grind for 3,000+ ^&%$&^%ing years so that all my alts can attain such an accolade on all my alts. Hell, even the Day Job badges are pushing my limits for patience. Especially when my spreadsheet I was tracking them all with went to crap.

I have to add my own "Please no" to this.

Not all characters are suited to all badges. So to get a badge out of your normal sphere takes a lot of effort. (For example my own main is a stalker. She's ground 400 PvP kills for Longbow Warden 2 so she can get the healing badges; something an Empath or Kin could do without thinking.)

To then attach an accolade to badges which are already difficult to get .. ugh.

* At least the new explore badges everyone can get.

Maybe we could have an Epic Accolade, but instead of using the Epic Badges use the Epic meaning from Epic ATs. Doing all the missions and TF/SFs to stop the Coming Storm and having it grant an accolade would be an Epic Accolade. That would certainly be an epic adventure.
