Guess we have to probe deeper on the questions about the next booster pack.
When will it come out?
What are its main theme and can you give some examples?
What are the special power that comes with the pack?
What kind of costume sets will it include and can you give us pictures?

Wow this is a busy thread, just finally got done reading it all (curses for being such a slow reader).
Welcome to the forums BP, looks like you'll be busy the next few days answering all the questions. Good luck.
I have gone to find myself. If I get back before I return, Keep me here!
I can only speak for myself, but with regards to the T-shirts/Hero-Con issue, I didn't go to teh Con for the shirt. I would much rather have them available for everyone, rather than something 'exclusive' just because I could afford to meet the Devs in person. In my opinion, more people wearing shirts emblazoned with the game's name, the better.

Q: How do you wreck an Abrams?
A: You crash into another one.

The entries for CoH, CoV, CoH Architect edition, CoH Mac special edition and CoH/CoV combined edition (Good vs. Evil) all have links to the corresponding US version, but the other 9 entries do not.
Changing the language with the selector on the top right only changes the language used on the page, and does not change what products are displayed.
It would be nice if there was some easy way to see the US versions instead.
Often it's possible to manually get to the correct page by going to the page for the European version of a product and subtracting 2 from the item_id, but that's not exactly intuitive...
You know what I think would have been a kick-*** promo item? A short Going Rogue comic for Free Comic Book day, which is two weeks from now.
Obviously it's too late for that, and I have no idea if that fits into your marketing budget, but you'd get advertising material into the hands of thousands of comics fans and kids all across the country. Maybe think about it for next year.
In the meantime, I would suggest a small, maybe 17" x 22", glossy fold-out poster of Desdemona that comics stores could put up in their windows.
Also, I have a suggestion that I will PM you about.

Something friendly like Tyrant standing on the necks of Statesman and Recluse for Going Rogue for example.
total kick to the gut
This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.
Hi and welcome (well not welcome since you've probably been scrying upon us using foul and neferious means, or do you use Firefox rather than IE ).
Why the name Black Pebble, just as a random question.
I am sure that you thought that by appearing here in the forums I would stop parodying the Marketing Department in my joke lists because they would have a friendly face to them now.
Your strategy is flawed.... deeply flawed... in fact...
Reasons why he may have chosen the name Black Pebble..
* Marketing execs must sell their souls in order to get promoted. Black Pebbles are used to maintain the space where the soul once was, in preparation for later filling with fire, brimstone or corn chips.
* It is advertising for his new cartoon concept show... "Flintstones In Da Hood."
* Symbolism; those little dark colored pellets his rabbit left behind LOOKED like pebbles...
* Black- the color of the darkness Marketing likes to keep us all in while we beg for new information... Pebble- the relative size of the information we are given when we asked for boulders.
* In honor of his most recent character... a Stone/Stone Tanker... a very small... very monochromatic Stone/Stone Tanker...
* Hint of the Future... Issue 18 will offer more customizable looks for the Stone Armor set, will feature access to the new "Chuck Rock" Stone Blaster power set. The next Veteran Reward will be a permanent version of the Rock temp power.
* In his teen age years it was the name of his Gangsta-Rap persona... unfortunately no one ever seemed to take Black Pebble seriously so his career never really got off the ground.

In-game advertising is tricky. For every player who thinks it's cool, I'd bet there's a player who feels like it breaks the immersion for them. Even targeted advertising can be tricky. I have a friend who plays CoH who'd much rather see diaper ads vs computer ads. Just not interested in tech.
If we ever did it, we would make sure it works for everyone. I don't think any of you would like to see something haphazard, no matter how cool it could be. |
Never saw player created "ads" there, either...
I agree it's hard to figure out what ads to put there, and how to make them fit it (it was *weird* seeing nice, shiny-new shoe ads in the middle of the destroyed, alternate-reality Dreck map, for instance.)
As far as real-world stuff, we know COH (and other NC games) have shown up as "product placement" in a few shows (whether that's an NC setup or the show....) "Swag" in the store has been asked for many times. And there has been past consternation that there's been no sight of City advertising in the spate of superhero movies the past few years - though that is likely a money question.

Alright, well, we can't have a redname walking around naked...
I mean, where's your avatar?
Alright, then. If you haven't got one, then here's one for you to use!
There. Maybe if you have an avatar, you'll be more comfortable hanging around with us.
Back to the topic at hand, all I have to say is *anything* that you can do to increase the visibility of CoH is a good thing, imo, and it'll be nice to actually have someone to voice our concerns to in the future.
Truth be told, I'm still not entirely sure you exist. You could be just our collective conscious forming a mass delusion after being totally neglected by the marketing department for so long.
Either way, welcome to the forums, and I hope to see you around!
p.s. You guys should TOTALLY hire Dark_Respite. It's a shame to see that talent and passion going unrewarded. Plus, it'd make for good P.R.

If the in game advertising system is currently not being used for advertising, why not give the players moderated access to it so we can get some variety to the pics on the boards.
Or run a competition to design new billboards like was done many years ago for the cinemas.
'New! Gorgon brand conditioner from Ghost Widow Enterprises, it lets your hair move freely!'
I'm willing to bet that the idiots^H^H^H^H^H^H enthusiasts on this board could come up with any number of ideas for billboards. If you could somehow tap that resource (moderated, obviously) then it'd be another little tick on the 'not a completely unchanging world because...' list. (although Ultra Mode's going to be a big damn tick on that list, since it gives old zones a new feel)

Black Pebble,
OK, I can't PM you from the looks of it, so I'll just post it here...
I'm a member of the staff of the Pittsburgh Comicon. Every year at the convention we have a freebie table at each entrance to the show, and it is loaded with everything from local comics store's flyers, to promo pins and keychains, to one-sheet posters for upcoming Hollywood blockbusters.
the show runs next Friday Saturday and Sunday, and while it's no where near as large as San Diego, it still sees an annual attendance of 5,000-8,000 comics and sci-fi fans. I would love to see some advertising for City of Heroes and/or Going Rogue on the freebie tables, even if it was just flyer of some sort. If there's any way you can get something in my hands by Wednesday the 21st, I will be very happy to put it out on the table for you. And all it would cost you is the price of printing and shipping.
If you need to verify this, you're welcome to call the promoter, ReneƩ, at the phone number on the website. My name is Roger H. If you think this is something that makes sense, you can PM me for my address or phone number.

EDIT - My idea for advertising would be to have a partnership with Raymon's Raving Rabbids, Ive already done the poster

Tales of Judgment. Also here, instead of that other place.
good luck D.B.B.
I can see it now... Black Pebble...
You can have Granite Armor, only HUGE and obsidian and Monolithy.
Why do I feel like I'm trapped in a Terry Pratchett Discworld novel right about now....

Suggestion time.
1. Mass transit media. In cities, advertise in subways, buses, cabs, ferrys, etc. This is where you get the largest amount of people in one place, nearly every single day, and they have to stay in that one place for the duration of the trip. Your target audience will vary, however, unless you have your own limo or your a sadist for driving into the city everyday, a high majority of folks will see those rectangular advertisement ads for CoH/Going Rogue/etc for a higher duration of time in their transit than someone thumbing through a magazine once for a few seconds. |
If you focus a few of these in smaller communities with a high concentration of your target demographic, like college towns. I work near Penn State.... and while Centre County's Transit Authority doesn't have the market access of a major metropolitan area, we have over 40,000 students, and the busses are cram-packed with them all the time.
Combine this with what you've set is one of our greatest assets- the community. A metro ad will get better results when word-of-mouth accompanies it. Survey to find concentrations of willing involvement & help them plan something. Maybe a City of Heroes fan gathering centered on a local convention, even if there's no direct dev involvement. ENCOURAGE them to get together and be VISIBLE about their association.
6. Advertise the "Good" we've done as "heroes" as an online community. This CoH community went to bat with a successful donations campagin for "Real World Hero" late this last year; get that info out to the media! Plan MORE such campaigns! As such, we should couple with authorized/approved by NC Soft/Paragon Studios other great campaigns, such as breast cancer awareness (i.e., "City of Heroes supports the Breast Cancer Foundation", etc.). We can be heroic AND supportive, and at their events, we'd be great for handing out free trial game disks, flyers with our game info and logos on it,etc. HIT THE HEROIC THEME and ADVERTISE WITH IT! |

Not a bad drive for me... if nothing else, maybe an unofficial player meet-n-greet?
Granted, I tried to plan that exact thing a few years back, then had to bail when RL blew the plans up, so I'm probably not the best one to organize / plan that.
