It's the randomness.
I can go months without seeing one and then get several in an evening. Just remember last week if you go without one for the next year.

I thought the same thing over 2xp this past time. I got 9 purples over the weekend. I run the same map to farm and have never gotten more than 2-3 in a weekend. But i'm not complaining.

Yeah, I figured it was just really a luck streak but given my usual performance in farming (which is poor), I thought I'd check. It figures I'd get all my best drops on a team rather than solo farming.

I was running some missions on my 'casual' stalker today and picked up two hunks of Rare salvage from a spawn of 3 Freakshow.
Weird things like this happen all the time, just file under '***t Happens'.

2- Nobody claimed to get 2 purples from a single group of three freaks, nor 4 pieces of rare salvage over 10 hours while teamed, so it's not even reasonable to infer that someone implied that the drop rates were the same.
Nethergoat was just pointing out that, when it comes to random numbers, weird stuff happens.... randomly.

At one point when I was playing my SS/WP Brute I got 3 purples in a single day. I was just running mishes, trying to get him to 50. I've never been that lucky since. Luck comes and goes, it seems. Over a sufficiently long period of time it averages out, but in the short-term it's feast or famine.

Discussion has been on purples, drop rates, and whether that's changed. Your example of 7 Nevermelting Ices is a good one, showing that clusters of drops are not necessarily evidence of a change in drop rates. Thanks for contributing meaningfully about how humans interpret or misinterpret random clustering!

i dont see them anymore. the game used to dump fortunatas' on me like a sick joke or something. i get nothing anymore. ive never gotten anything cool and useful outside of a merit roll come to think of it. i love my content, i rlly do. ive been limiting my AE adventures in favor of content in hopes of being rewarded randomly with something awesome. random drops are random, indeed.
i thought i read somewhere that u get a purp every 1500 or so mobs u flatten. wishful thinking?
edit: yes i am aware u dont get purples from merit rolls.

Nobody except the devs, have a very good handle on what the drop rate is, or if it is even a consistent rate.
For all we know they could be keying the rate to the total available at wentworths on any given day.
Well, I've been playing 10 months and have never gotten one. So as far as I can tel lit hasn't changed a bet 
0 = 0 still!
I'm PVE so being purpled doesn't matter, but I do have hungry alts to feed!

Hear me out. In the last week, I've received three purple drops. While on teams. And someone else got a purple on the same mission I did. So that was at least 4 potentials.
I'd say the amount of time I played was about 10 hours. And the team size was usually 3-5 people on missions set to x8. The window of time could just be the RNG showing me love for once in my life, but I wanted to see if other people out there were experiencing a good luck streak as well and if it seemed too good to be true.
Granted, I probably should have kept my mouth shut so prices don't drop on the purples I want to sell. But more than likely, I've just been lucky and soon enough, I won't see anymore drops until 2011.
