Not always - wild, no strings attached sex is also an acceptable option for fanfic - although it lacks the hawt angst of a proper slash relationship.

Batman and robin all over again

It has a hell of a lot more substance than Manticore and Sister Psyche. I don't think either of them knew the other was even alive before he randomly shot a wedding ring at her at the end of the comic book series. Plus I'll support anyone who has the chance to reduce how much of a ********* Statesman is. If Desdemona is in a position to whip him into acting right, so much the better - she can start on bloody Sister Psyche afterwards.

Maelstrom isn't Tyrant's type.

Well, not EVERYONE.

But on the other hand, Statesman and Desdemona already have some heavy emotional investment in each other. For most of her life, Desdemona blamed Statesman for the death of her mother. Statesman blamed himself for failing to save Desi's mother.

Then Statesman flies onto the scene and saves Desi's life, and she fails to take advantage of his weakness to "avenge" her mother's death.

Certainly could be some issues to resolve ... and in fiction people who have reason (either real or perceived) to hate someone, often find themselves falling for that person.

Maelstrom also didn't kill Tyrant's daughter.

Umm...not to be mean spirited, but did you even read the rest of the comics? By the time of "Trading Place" it was really obvious in the banter that there was much going on between Manticore and Sister Psyche.

Of what I've read so far, I tend to see it more as a surrogate father/daughter relationship.

I do think it would be interesting to in-game explore Statesman's need for a girlfriend/wife. The man's been widowed for a while, and yet, unless he dies in battle, he's immortal. I'm sure he'll have some sense of family from his descendants, but eventually, he'll have to recognize he's lonely. I wonder if the Lady Grey is available and interested? As an immortal herself, she may be the only in-game lady to match him, and wouldn't it be fun to see his uppity granddaughter explode at the thought of the leader of Vanguard dating her granddad?

Statesman has been widowed for at least 25 years or so per the Freedom Phalanx novel.

If he wanted to only date immortals, he does have several choices in Paragon City.

1. Georgia Fields in Independence Port is over 70 years old per her biography.

2. Luminary as a robot will not age.

3. It's unclear, but it's possible that the bond between a Kheldian and human can greatly extend their lifespans.

4. Lady Grey. (I think that Lady Grey might consider Statesman too young for her.)

"Uppity"? What an old-fashioned word

It's also not the correct one for her - she's just very passionate about her job

It's true that every time I finish an RSF, "uppity" is not a word that would describe Miss Liberty with any accuracy.

Springing that the relationship exists at all in the same issue as the marriage proposal does not a convincing relationship make. If they wanted Manticore and Sister Psyche to be taken at all seriously as a couple, they should have been dropping hints since the first issue rather than just in the last.

Then there's the whole Maria Jenkins thing... read her bio some time. Makes you wonder just what their relationship was like...

Don't know about the NYC, but 'uppity' is used all the time here in the South.

And Ms. Liberty ain't passionate, she's like a spoiled brat born with a silver spoon in her mouth, and acts all bitchy because of who her Mom & Grandpa are. She needs to be taken over someone's knee and put in her place....or tied up and flogged. Either way.

I don't know if I just imagined it or read it, but I keep thinking that originally Maria Jenkins was actually going to be the former Maiden Justice aka Statesman's wife.

(Doing Unai's arc right now and have to admit that it's rather strange to think that someone named "Madame Danger" would be so inspirational that she could cause a pure eternal flame to arise as part of a magic spell.)

It would make sense that the person who'd be most concerned about his disappearance would be his wife.

If that's the case, I don't know why they decided to change it.

that person was troy hickman, the only version of statesman that i accept from the comics.

Sounds like a job for her evil twin.

Troy's version of the Phalanx, barring official notes from the characters' creators, is the version I use as a reference when writing. They seem more... real.
