If someone were to make a live action coh movie, would you go see it?
I think most of us would go see it, simply because it was CoH

It would depend an awful lot who directed and acted in it, and maybe who produced it. There have been a lot of movies based on games (video and table-top) which could have been really excellent, but it's typical that they suck posterior so hard you could probably see accretion discs if you walked behind them, because of the directors and (usually no-name) actors.

I'd probably go and see it. Unless it was directed by Uwe Boll.
Not even if it was free admission and Stephanie Peebles appeared topless.
Larry: Owen, what the hell did you do to my wife?
Owen: Well I don't want to say on the phone - all I can tell you is that I killed her last night.
Yeah, I guess I'd pay to see that, as long as there was no plot.

It would really depend on the nature of the movie. If they took one of the storylines and made it into a movie, I'd avoid it like the plague -- translating a story from one medium to another almost never works. On the other hand, a movie set in the CoH universe using some of the characters could work quite well.
Well considering someone has the rights now to make a CoH movie, id love to see it in 3D
Actually, I could very easily see this movie done like Pandorum, where you start out further in the story and have multiple flashbacks and story telling moments where you gradually learn about the opening of the Box.
For instance, the first scene would be a top down view of a metropolis that zooms in to see Arachnos swarming everywhere, with misc heroes blasting and punching their way through. In comes the Phalanx, Statesman at the lead, and as he is fighting we start to see through his eyes the way things have changed (flashbacks of him trouncing older-looking Arachnos).
Having said that, this would translate WAY better as an animted movie, a la Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths (if you havent seen it, GO NOW!). James Woods as Owlman is epic.
"It doesn't matter." -Owlman, James Woods.
Not only would I see it! I'd be begging them to put my main into the movie! Even as a cameo! I already know who should play her! She's perfect for it! If she can't act! Well...it'd most likely be just a cameo, so she doesn't have to talk!

As other posters have said, other video games have been made into movies. The vast majority of them sucked. I think that the Resident Evil movies may be the best out of the lot and that isn't saying a whole lot...
Given the right script and directing I would give it a shot. I'd probably be more inclined to see an animated movie then a real life one though. Super-hero costumes don't generally translate well to real life and in a COH movie there would be enough spandex to blind you.
A live-action movie, no. There's a very small chance that any live-action super hero movie will be good, and that chance is missed on most movies that get made. You need an absurd production budget to make the thing stick, and with the absurd budget come producers hedging their bets on cliches, "safe" plots and stupid ideas. That, and you STILL end up with a jarring transition between live action and super heroics, and actors are rarely made to look natural in the use of their powers. They're basically people in a more regular flick that turn on their CG every once in a while.
An animated or all-CG movie on the other hand, that I'd probably see. Counter-intuitively, full-CG movies tend to have better acting and a much more believable integration of normality with abnormality, and their settings are more easily allowed to be partially fantastic without it seeming out of place. In essence, when EVERYTHING is a special effect, the special effects stand out a lot less.
Take, for instance, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. I don't care how much Final Fantasy fans may rant about how dumb it is, that's the movie with easily the most frantic, most epic, most beautiful action scenes that I have EVER seen. A super-hero movie with that kind of pace of action would blow so many minds that cinema janitors will be able qualify for brain surgeons.
I HATE HATE HATE the turn-based fight scenes in most live-action movies that are so plodding and punctuated by talking I may as well be watching Yu-Gi-Oh or Pokemon. Even the Matrix, which is one of the better ones about this, still relished needless slow motion and staggered fight scenes.
Ideally, though, I'd like to see this as an animated or CG series, similar to the JLA series or the 90s Fox Spider-Man and X-Men. There's far too much lore in City of Heroes to cram just in a single movie and not just feature a bunch of 10-second cameos for the fans. A series doesn't have to touch on all of the different aspects of the city, but it would still have more screen time to explore at least a few of the more important aspects of the settings. A City of Heroes series I would DEFINITELY see.

I would go see it....
For now the closest thing in excistence that looks like COX is the movie 'Sky high'.
You can even recognise the different AT's and powers in there. So much like COX its scary. Recommended.
- The Italian Job: The Godfather Returns #1151
Beginner - Encounter a renewed age for the Mook and the Family when Emile Marcone escapes from the Zig!
- Along Came a... Bug!? #528482
Average - A new race of aliens arrives on Earth. And Vanguard has you investigate them!
- The Court of the Blood Countess: The Rise of the Blood Countess #3805
Advanced - Go back in time and witness the birth of a vampire. Follow her to key moments in her life in order to stop her! A story of intrigue, drama and horror! Blood & Violence... not recommend to solo!
As long as it doesn't involve Michael Bay or anyone associated with making terrible films, yeah, I suppose I would see it.
I can't remember where, but I heard a while ago that whoever had the rights to a CoH movie had plans to base it on the first Rikti War.

I would. Multiple times, in fact.
Because I'd be the one making it
What, I guy can dream, right?
The answer is still yes, so long as they do a good job on it.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Yeah, I'd go see it.
The thing that would disappoint me the most about a CoH movie would be if they didn't use any of the game music in it. Not all of it would fit of course, but a CoH movie without the Atlas Park theme, for example, would be like a Star Wars movie without an opening crawl.
(Sometimes, I wish there could be a Dev thumbs up button for quality posts, because you pretty much nailed it.) -- Ghost Falcon
All I want is an awesome fight scene between Statesman and Lord Recluse and I'll be happy.
It's basically like Sam said. Who watches these kinda movies for their engaging plots and emotionally-moving characters? A City of Heroes movie, by its very nature, would be an action movie, and an action movie is only ever as good as its fight scenes.
Either way, even ignoring all PCs and NPCs that don't have a Hero or Archvillain tag, you have such a wealth of characters that a City of Heroes movie would have to be truncated a lot. If we really wanna see as many characters as possible involved in roles more significant than streetcorner cameos, I think a cartoon is the best way to go.

I believe I would avoid it like the plague. The setting is too built around silly conventions put in to explain "gamey" elements. Heck, the whole Rogue Isles thing is pretty ridiculous, just to start with, the concept of heroes being paid to fight crime is tenuous at best, hospital teleporters, canon characters who can bring the dead back to life, the war walls... That's just off the top of my head.
Honestly it would make a lousy movie setting.
Only if it was two hours or AE speed runs! that would be awesome!
Seriouslly though. It might be the first super heroe movie that has a truely epic giant monster battles...Not sure how they'd pull off a 6ft man doing melee with a 30 ft monster though.
Yes, Tom deSanto (the producer of TRANSFORMERS) has the rights to make a CoH film. And a while back, he'd said that it might be set during the Rikti War.
That said, I would much rather see it animated/CGI than I would live-action. Get Michael Giacchino to do the score (after hearing him do THE INCREDIBLES, he'd be great), get some really good voice actors with a good script and the potential is definitely there.
And if they insist on getting a third party to write the script, by all that's holy, make sure either Joe Morrissey, Sean Fish, or one of the other PS writer/story bible team is there as a consultant to make sure they get as little wrong as they can.

I probably wouldn't.
Honestly, for me the game is far *less* about the Phalanx, Arachnos, etc. Their missions are a canvas for *my* characters and what they do, after all. I don't think I'd actually find it interesting enough to sit through, barring being just small Internet movies filling in or introducing bits of plot.
Or even animated for that matter. They have so much content and lore that I think a few really nice movies could be made someday. Just watching this ftp://ftp.cityofheroes.com/movies/CO...railer_720.mov or this ftp://ftp.cityofheroes.com/movies/COV_2005_CGT.mov makes me want to someday see a movie.
Videos may be slow to load on some machines but you can visit the media section and manually download them if you prefer. They are the cov trailer movies.
