The gauntlet has been thrown, sir.

Y'know, if you're an innocent bystander looking over this thread and wondering why it was stickied, I'd hope that you remember it the next time you're in Atlas Park or Mercy Island and hear someone asking basic questions in /broadcast.

Please, refer them to us if you don't want to get too involved - our motto is practically "Neutiquam erro".

True for mentor and neophyte.

If you haven't joined a global channel, you're not really looking for team.

Hi there, I've just applied for starting this Project on Union.

Always thought that CoX needed something like this. We had Taxi-Bots for a long time on Union but I'm not sure if they are still there or not.

Hopefully with GR out soon the EU servers will gain some more players and with the help of this Service, keep them playing.

I'm thinking we'll see an influx this summer as they kick the game up a notch. It's good that Stalemate & Co. are getting a leg up on this now, establishing roles and patterns, before GR makes it debut. It pays to be ready.

*gets on the bullhorn*

MARKETING: DO NOT SCREW GR UP. THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE. GET A GOOD CAMPAIGN GOING, OR SO HELP ME, WE WILL DRIVE TO YOUR OFFICES AND END YOU IN FULL VIEW OF POSI AND WAR WITCH.

*switches off bullhorn*

*hits the "La Cucaracha" function, for kicks*

Excellent news!

You're our first mentor on the EU servers, and hopefully not the last.

As for Taxi-Bots - if anyone can "take me to their leader", or point them to this project, I think that - having similar goals - both groups could benefit from evaluating joint opportunities. Feel free to PM me with any info in that regard.

Again, I find myself and this project simply "at the right place, at the right time" and am very pleased to see that it's growing as expected: through a grassroots movement spread mostly by word-of-mouth.

Indeed, being there for new and returning players unfamiliar with the latest in Paragon City will be beneficial all around.

I'll bring a mariachi band. That bullhorn is just too tinny if you ask me...

This is a great idea, My home server is Infinity. I'm not extremely active as of late, but I will assist on channels whenever I'm online. Will also add a link in my sig

Your link doesn't work. You used the wrong type of slash, which has a specific function in URL's. (Mouse over your link, or click it, and you'll see what it does.) It should be as follows:

http://citymentorproject.mmopost.com

P.S. Interesting idea. I'll have to think about which global channel to drop as I'm already on 10.

I see what the trouble is, since it was working fine on my end consistently.

Google Chrome was correcting it automatically.

I blame my wanting to write out the code by hand, and the constant use of UNCs at work and home.

Thx for pointing this out.

Off The Cape Interview Podcast

The great people at Off the Cape have released the interview Enrious and I did with them where the Mentor Project is one of the topics covered.

This is officially considered "Episode #3" since the previous one was the CoH 6th Anniversary Retrospective.

Special thanks to the Off The Cape crew for giving us this opportunity. =)

Our laison with the EU community will be Landrig.

He has created another N P C channel on that side and we are looking into ways to create and maintain communications between NA and EU mentors. Landrig will also be coordinating activities on the Union server (both sides, I believe) whenever he can.

The website will help, but perhaps we could also get something that responds better in real time.

I'll be translating the ad above in french, and a german version could also be coming soon.

Welcome to the latest mentors: lukewarmdog and Moonlyte.

Welcome aboard guys!

There is the option, through our outside site, to use live chat. It just opens in a new browser window. I know it isn't the perfect option, but for those of us with multiple monitors, or run in window mode, it wouldn't be anything extra to have that open on the second or third monitor while we're available.

twitter
ventrilo
skype
any kind of instant messaging, like yahoo

I have access to a Teamspeak 3 Server at the moment and I already have permission to invite people on and create a new Channel for us to use.

This invite would also be extended to any new players if they are interested.

If I could get a PM (on the forums) so I could see roughly how many people would us eit I can set it up and get you all the connection info.

I can't even make an estimate concerning numbers right now.

Any channel you create will be fine, and the only thing I can see being an issue is that most gamers already have preferred means of communicating.

For instant messaging I've taken to using Digsby, since it handles Yahoo, MSN, GTalk, even IRC and others - simply to make sure I can keep in touch. Not everyone will want to do that.

Some will jump at this opportunity fore realtime voice chat. Others will ask how come there's no Ventrilo server. Or how come we don't use Skype. That's just the way things are.

Can you post the info here when it's ready, Landrig?

And thanks for the offer.

Once it's ready, I can use TSViewer to place a widget on the GuildPortal site for it.

I'm against using methods outside of the game to communicate (in terms of the mentor project), unless it's one-on-one mentorship, because by sticking with a global channel (N P C in the case of NA servers), you guarantee that all present will be able to participate - something you can't guarantee with methods such as skype, vent, ts, etc.

The forum on Guildportal is an exception because practically everyone has a browser. Not everyone has at the minimum a microphone for voice chat.

^ Personal view

I *think* Stale and Landrig are discussing methods of coordinating NA and EU - just wouldn't want people to think we're discussing changing how we mentor people.

Stale, Landrig, perhaps you should take it to tells at this point?

You know, I had missed the part about extending it to new players in Landrig's post. I was thinking this was going to be limited to mentors so that NA and EU volunteers could communicate together.

I'd agree with enrious here on this aspect.

Heard about this project on the podcast and am quite excited about it. I joined the game a bit under 6 months ago, but I was fortunate in that quite a few people from a fan community for another game that I am involved in play and they welcomed me, walked my through everything and put up with all my dumb questions without complaining. Not everyone has that advantage.

So kudos to you guys for doing this and I hope to be of service to you all.

I've been reading through this thread and find the idea very interesting. I'm wondering if it would be possible to have a mod link this thread in each server section. I know some server have it but I never saw it on Champion.

I've been playing for a couple years and will probably fill the form later tonight.

This is a great initiative from all of you and I hope many people can benefit from it.
