BMT Redside
I think you're thinking about it too hard.
Let's all drop the pretenses that Champions United or BMT Redside are in existence for any other reason than someone getting upset on the playground and deciding to take their ball and go play somewhere else. The best channel would be the one that has the most people, period. Every time a channel divides, for whatever reason, it reduces in effectiveness. It's simple math, folks. Here's a sample shot of how the channel can work without being heavy-handed: Last night there were folks that wanted to start up a Kickball match. They talked about it for at least ten minutes before they started, and answered several questions about it from a few new people. They got people to show up for it, and the whole thing was perfectly civil. No one complained "OMG pvp talk in BMT! That's not what this channel is for!" (never mind that there are pvp badges, which came up in conversation) No one complained that they couldn't find other teams because the channel was talking about PvP and drowning out their requests. Someone advertised a match, they talked it up for a bit to get interest, and then it stopped...all by itself. This happens every day. People can conduct civilized conversations all by themselves, even when the teacher is out of the classroom. Let's try to do more of this. |
I never really understood why PvP chatter was frowned upon in BMT. Sure, there's the risk that some players might start smack-talking but as long as it's cordial and civil PvP chatter should be allowed. I'd love to see more of it in BMT.
PVP chatter in BMT GTFO...

Just sayin'
The thread is useless and meaningless, obviously, and I'm not trying to stir the pot but I had to say at least that much, sorry!
OH, and who really gives a flying **** if there are other channels? Not for nothing, but I rarely get redside teams or SFs on BMT of Champion...guess it happens when I'm not on?

One extra 'o' makes a big difference.
You just made my point. The channel doesn't need active conversation moderation. Most of those that caused the channel to be private in the first place aren't around, and the rest of us just want to find teams. If there's 6 mods (or however many there are) and only one of them cares enough to open their mouth on a regular basis, many times before anyone has a chance to complain (or not), perhaps that one person isn't acting on behalf of everyone anymore. The channel does its job (putting people with other people doing the same task, or giving information) all by itself, and it does it best when there's a lot of people in it. It's called BMT, but that's not ALL that it needs to be.
|
And yes, it does need active moderation. I've received more 'thank you's for keeping the channel on topic than people gettin' all butt-hurt that they can't follow the rules.
And no, it's not just BMT, because I won't moderate game-related conversations. But I'm sure this faults whatever point it is that you're tryin' to make, so you'd fail to mention it.
Honestly, if you don't like the moderation in there, and this isn't the first time this has come up, nor will it be the last, just leave the channel.
Unless you just need somethin' to gripe/complain/moan 'bout.

Why does everyone keep thinking that setting up pvp events in BMT is "frowned" upon. Arguing about pvp, griping about pvp, etc. are indeed frowned upon. But basic pvp chatter of setting up, asking people to join, etc. is a-okay. GTFO.

I'm not trying to pick fights but **** like GTFO and RTF MoTD seem pretty inappropriate and unnecessary and I've been wondering what is up every one's *** lately? Just curious, feel free to flame away but srsly, it's pretty rude to treat peeps that way.
I don't think that I got myself knee-deep in a ******** contest with Vori and friends to save the channel a year or so ago for everyone to dog peeps and treat them like ****, I'm really starting to wonder why the hell I went through all of that to save the channel in the first friggin place.

I need to ask this question, is the "GTFO" at the end of your comment really necessary?

I dunno. Seems a bit o' a stretch to me, Meowtch.
It's not like I personally don't appreciate what you did to help maintain the integrity o' the channel with the aforementioned shenanigans, but this stuff happens. This isn't a 'lately' thing. It's basically been happenin' since I started to enforce the rules more stringently. But I'd rather this happen than hear 'bout people turnin' off the channel due to rampant spam that only pertains to two people chatterin' on in regards to their personal lives, or this or that person's movie review, or what music people like to listen to currently on their playlists. And yes, these are all things that happened durin' the week prior to me steppin' up moderation. If the channel gets turned off, then people aren't usin' it for what it's intended. It's design and implimentation was about Badges, Monsters, and Task Forces. If people can't abide by that, then they really can GTFO and find another place to chit-chat.
If it takes someone to be the ******* to keep the channel functionin' compared to how it was before, then so be it. Only one thing would make me change how I go about things, and so far, nothin' in this thread or in-game has been it.
End o' story.

I'll say this much, because you have "RTF MoTD" in that motd CA, u should see how peeps answer each other in that channel when someone asks a question.
And, there are times when stuff purges if ur on long enough and you can't read the damned thing anymore.
End O'story or not, CA, it seems pretty inappropriate and has opened the door to plenty of people telling others asking a simple question to RTFMOTD and that is rude. Period. End of story, as u say.
U know I've always said you are at least, for the most part, even keeled with the way u run the channel but some things are just not needed. RTF is one of them IMO.

lol it must be a common theme on your server, I was on an alt last month and got quieted when someone asked about a set bonus and I knew the answer.
I do have to say I've got all the main GC's on my main servers and the level of mod'ing on your channel is in a class by itself.
But for the most part the channel seems pretty friendly for the past year I've had it, though on some nights the mod'ing is way over the top, given you all tell newbs they should hook up with BMT when they come to this server.
Just saying that from an outsiders perspective that can be pretty off putting for someone testing out your server, and I hail mostly from freedom/virtue, so that's saying something.
Friendliness and common sense are more likely to keep visitors from leaving your server, which has lost population the past couple years, just a thought.

As for all the other stuff that's gotten all 'splodey in the past page...For me personally, I could care less about the off-topic chatter as long as its not getting in the way of actual BMT stuff.
If nothing is really going on or being formed because it's stupid o' clock in the morning and people want to just chatter, I don't see that as a problem. However, if a new person comes into the channel and sees a huge nerdragey argument or one person talking to themselves for hours on end, it doesn't reflect well on the channel.
That said, I don't think I was around for people talking music non-stop or whatever, but even now I can see how certain people who love to hear (or read? ) themselves talk would dominate the channel. Derailing it from its original purpose.
So, in my opinion, what there needs to be is balance. Right now the balance might not be perfect, but it's pretty good. My experience of BMT is that you can pretty much talk about whatever you want to talk about, as long as you know when to shut up.
If someone feels something should change or could be improved about the way the channel is moderated, a thread or forum post isn't the way to do it. No one is gonna respond well to being publicly called out like that. If you want something to change, you go and you talk reasonably to the person you feel it concerns.
Channel Ops should be open to objective, reasonable and constructive feedback. But if they don't get any, nothing is going to change.

Edit: Ironically, the majority o' people that are bein' told to RTFMotD are people who honestly know better, know the times o' various raids that have been happenin' for days, weeks, and months for some time now and shouldn't have to be told to do it.

So we're not taking into account that Darksiders and Dante's Inferno are basically God of War clones? To continue with that metaphor, shouldn't BMT of Champion be God of War (IMO the better game?)

Sorry to stray away from topic, but c'mon! One time is a mistake, two times now??
Here.
Back on topic:
Semi-agree with Meowtch, sometimes people miss the MoTD upon log in due to server chatter and you can come off kinda caty with "RTF MoTD" all the time..
That being said, I love the channel. It's where 99.98% of my teaming is done
I have to agree with Meowtch and Tank Washington here. The abruptness, sometimes bordering on rudeness, is not needed and, in my opinion, inappropriate at most times. This comment is not directed at any particular person.
To back this up, there are numerous people at countless times who ask what level a certain tf is. Nobody gets gruff about it and the answer is straight-forward. Why can't other answers be such? Telling someone to read the MotD after they've been on for hours isn't helping anyone.
As Tank Washington alluded to regarding the fact we frequently tell newcomers to request an invite to BMT and then the way certain things are being said is a double-edged sword. I realize this.
My only request is to put ourselves in other people's shoes before they open their mouths in different situations, especially if the reply is inclined to be rude and condescending. There can be, and in fact are, shades of grey here.

Been away from the game since last summer.
Checked out the forums this AM, and sure enough ... Champion drama.
Good times!
This thread has inspired me to make a new Sonic / Energy Blaster last night by the name of Drama Cannon. She's a mutant that draws her power from all of the drama on the Champion server.
@Celestial Lord and @Celestial Lord Too
people, its a game. lighten up.
not everyone finds the rtfmotd offensive.
Cobalt: Edit: Ironically, the majority o' people that are bein' told to RTFMotD are people who honestly know better, know the times o' various raids that have been happenin' for days, weeks, and months for some time now and shouldn't have to be told to do it. |
Its astonishing to me to see how many people will enter the channel, say hi or whatever and follow it with " isnt the rwz raid tonight" or " what tf is up for tft/what time is tft" or "what time is the sunday hami raid again?"
You know, Cobalt doesnt have to even keep a MOTD up there.. he does it in support of community events & passing along game related information (that, frankly, a lot of people that DONT read the forums, would miss) and he does a pretty thorough job in listing all that fits in the area given.. why give him a ration of crap over why he on OCCASION ends it with rtfmotd.. cmon, really? is everyone that sensitive?
Since i do the TFT's i for 1 am thankful he keeps a MoTD posted and 2 am thankful that he keeps the channel as clear as possible.. recently he wasnt around on a TFT and while im trying to get people in zone and teamed up, there was a crapton of mindless chatter going on in BMT and it honestly pissed me off. What ends up happening is people having to ask/answer the same damn question over and over trying to get the information they need since they miss it due to the chatter.
He doesnt mod with a heavy hand all the time.. its mostly during "peak" times.
You guys want channels to chat in, make 1, its easy.. or join a differnt channel and leave BMT for its SOLE INTENDED PURPOSE .. or, as usual, feel free to hit Ping up and ask him to change the purpose of the channel.
gl with that.
Ironically enough, if I was online, I wouldn't have moded the conversation. So much for that idea.
