I bring out a level 50 Dual Pistols / Dark Miasma Corruptor whenever debuffs are needed. However, I'm starting to get bored of them, since they are all I've played for months.

Honestly, I want to make a couple of new Brutes. But my home server is Exalted, where 80% of all level 50 toons are melee. No joke. So many PuG trials have failed because nearly all of the toons on it were melee. We even had to improvise our Hamidon raid strategy on Saturday 'cause we had three full melee teams and like one blaster and two Corruptors. So if I'm going to make a new toon, it must be ranged as I don't want to add to that.

The problem is that in my six years of playing the game, I could never get a Blaster above level 20. Just far too squishy, and I never liked any of the secondaries.

Someone recommended that I try a human-only Peacebringer. Any other suggestions?
    I've enjoyed ...

    - Dominators, played at range. Fire/Fire, Mind/Energy, Plant/Psi. I play all of the above entirely, or mostly, at range. All three are solid combos.

    - Fire/ Corrs are great. Although if you spend a lot of time playing a /Fire Defender you might not want to play Fire/ again any time soon.

    - Soldier of Arachnos - Crabs and Forts are both rock solid at range. I'd do a Crab before a Peacebringer personally, although the PB might be more fun leveling up.

Keep in mind, I'm in no way advocating that IOs be removed or anything like that. They've been around far too long to go back now. I was just wondering if anyone else ever longed for the good old days when teams ran around more often because it meant something more than "those people I need to start the TF".
I would have long since moved on to other games.

My fire/cold still runs on Spiritual though I really want to switch to agility, as the +def will affect a ton of powers and the +endmod will be nice to have since I only run with base slot in stamina (meaning I would be less reliant on heat loss if I ever needed to save it to debuff a specific mob) and I could probably strip some slots from Heat Loss if I had agility.
    This in a big way.

I finally T4'd my Fire/Cold in spiritual over the weekend and afterwards I was like, why did I just do that? Geeez

My thought is to make a Mental/TK character and this combo seems to fit that concept well.

Anyone play one that can share some advice, tricks or tips?

    Thanks in advance.
Its fun. Its not /Fire, but its still fun. Generally, my early levels consisted of:

    - confuse foe #1

    - dominate foe #2

    - power push foe #3

All three foes are otherwise involved, so have fun blasting and bonesmashing your way through them.

Its all about the caves, man
  8. I'd make sure to fit in Rise of the Phoenix on that puppy. Good luck, have fun

    pimpin' ain't easy

That's close to what I run. I don't have the recharge to run it fully ... I run Blaze > Char > FB (0.4 sec pause). Slotted Char with 5 Unbreakable Constraint + Apoc Damage + Musculature. Getting the extra purple proc into the ranged chain is nice.

The popular Interface is Reactive Radial, and the extra fire damage would fit the toon's Fire Blast theme, but since everyone and their mother seems to have Reactive Radial and it only stacks twice, it seems rather pointless to take to me.

I was looking at the upcoming Interfaces available in Issue 21.5, and the Spectral Interface seems interesting. Having a chance to immobilize targets would make Rain of Fire even more yummy. However, Diamagnetic Radial also looks interesting for the -regen.

    Any suggestions?
Reactive Radial may start decreasing in popularity now that all the new Interfaces have a damage proc in the Radial tree.

The -regen is kind of small IIRC in Diamagnetic?

Might also want to consider the confuse proc (Cognitive?). Also has a proc chance for Psi damage. Getting lots of confuse chances out of your AoEs could be cool.

I knew this was going to be a good post. Thanks, man.

Also - hope you've recovered from Game 5. Peeps are still moping about it around here.
  15. I would be up for helping as well. Weeknights are generally a bit iffy, but if you set a time and I can schedule around it, I will.

It means you're back in the fight at full power quicker.

Besides, you're hardly "spending" a power. You don't dedicate a power slot to it. You don't need to slot it. The only requirement is that you have the Villain alignment.

Return to Battle is an unnecessary ease. So are inspirations. So are IOs. So is basically anything that makes things easier in this game. Doesn't mean they're a crutch if you use them, unless you derive pleasure from making things needlessly more difficult for yourself.
I can't speak for Talen but I had the same reaction he did. Mostly in response to Giant's post:

"One thing worth mentioning is the fact that it is inadvisable to be a non-villain as a Dom and that sounds exactly what you intend. The Frenzy alignment power is an absolute must have for a Dominator and it is pure villain only."

Emphasis added by me. My response would have been: "Pure drivel and poppycock." Absolute must? Come now, my good man!

I'm enjoying playing it like a blaster of old, drop them before they drop you, so not having any defense/resistance, I'm not sure about Barrier since the big buff doesn't last long. I'm thinking about Rebirth(+regen) would be best since I already have hoarfrost but I'm not sold on it just yet.

So is there any reason for me to take any of the other destiny buffs besides rebirth?
I personally like Rebirth for the iTrials and some of the high end TFs. Its great in the Apex TF, and great in the Keyes iTrial. You could always grab Barrier as well and swap back and forth as needed depending on what you're running.

You're not going to get equivalent either, IMO. I played both /SR and /Elec Brutes to 50, the old-fashioned. At 50, the /Elec is pancake-kicking, just stellar, and is my go-to Brute for most things. I stripped the /SR to fund the /Elec and he now sits on the shelf unused. But in the 20s that /SR outclassed the /Elec by a wide margin defensively. It wasn't even close.

Now, I could be a bit of a pansy - if I did invest and exemplar'd down, how good could I get my Claws/Elec? Not sure. I think the /SR would be better though.

Its was difficult for me to get decent defenses at low levels on my Claws/Elec. Its built for soft-capped defense at lvl 50, but you're not going to be easily there in the 20s.
  21. At 975 days, you likely haven't played a /Shield Scrapper. That would be interesting, I suspect. Hope all is well. Also, for your signature, City of Data is now moved to cohtitan.com.

Sleet is also a pretty big deal; the more each build sells out to increase damage, the more important that -RES becomes.

I'm not sure the Dominator would win, mind, but at the extreme high end I think it'd be darn close.
The Incinerate-Blaze-Fire Blast Chain is murderizing. If I didn't prefer ranged play, I'd dump my Blaze-Fire Blast-Char (.5 sec pause) chain for it. Heck, I get 188 DPS with the pause and that's before taking into account damage buffs like Assault / Embrace of Fire / Musculature and a high end Reactive proc.
  23. I fall into the Anti-Shout crowd. If you really want a third blast to chain with Shriek/Scream, I usually dip into the Epic pools. I went with Electric Fence - surprisingly good damage, takes a damage proc, and it immobilizes those I AM RUNNING NAO AVs.

Shriek/Scream/Electric Fence or Shriek/Scream/Shriek/EF are both solid chains that should beat out anything with Shout.
