Hear, hear.

I may complain about events lasting too long (seriously, the last 2 have been extended and extended) but having the events themselves? Awesome. Something to which we can look forward. In other words, a holiday.

We did not receive the same treatment in Atlas, nor were we awarded the gold titles. If they were going to test a new event with special stuff like that it should have been in ONE zone, instead of two. I logged on today specifically expecting something from this and really looking forward to it, and I missed out because I picked the wrong zone. Not cool. I'd hope that there will be a repeat on virtue sometime soon because my blaster there wants a go at it, and she was downright cheated out of it.
Well at least your server got the event. Most of us weren't so lucky.

If Paragon Studios wants to select one or two servers for beta testing a new event then they should say that's what they're doing. But instead of beta tests we get this all wrapped up as "special content for special servers" at the same time as free server transfers are implemented. Makes a cynical person wonder if they're trying to get people to move or something...

i wish i got a chance to participate in the special invasion, although i do have to admit rikti are getting old to use for invasions.

why not reintroduce the rularuu invasions, or create new invasions altogether such as an arachnos invasion on heroside and longbow invasion on villainside when someone completes the STF or LRSF respectively. theres plenty of enemy groups out there to choose from, and it would be something new and fresh instead of perking up the current invasions, which a LARGE majority of poeple hardly even participate in anymore unless they need the badges.

I'll be excited when once a month or every other month Villains find a way around the War Walls and can invade paragon city.

Rikti invasions get old fast..Playable character invasions wouldn't get old.

I agree with seeing something other than Rikti and zombies. Back when the invasions of Rikti were brand new it was like "okay, we need to push em back!" but now it's old hat.
Zombies and Rikti are just annoying these days. It sort of is the mentality of you need to drop everything and fight the foe, even if you're off saving the world or destroying the world, depending on your side.

Hell, I want to see something different invading that's not holiday related.

[EDIT:] I bet for the release of GR they'll have praetorian enemies invade Paragon and the Isles then just forget about it a day later.

the invasion weekends and stuff also get ridiculously annoying because they also despawn all normal spawns in the zone, thus making certain tfs with hunt mishs impossible to finish until the invasion passes, extending the time you need to be on the tf another 20-30 minutes.

IMHO, i think the invasion weekends killed the hype for the invasions because they occured so frequently people got the badges on all the toons they wanted and thus never participated unless they made new toons.

Or this. You did a whole issue dedicated to the return of the 5th column. We see them in Steel Canyon beating the hell out of the council, and while that's nice, how about this?

How about 5th column troopers rappelling out of helicopters and into the streets? Or some GM variants of mechmen to fight. Give us new badge titles for beating them back.

Standard style invasion, just with a new enemy group.

Or, perhaps have the column and the council invade a zone at the same time, aggressive toward each other (and players) with the people of Paragon and The Isles caught in the middle. Leave it to the heroes to defend the civilians and the villains to defend themselves.

You've got better enemy groups to use, devs. C'mon now. Alien invasions are supposed to be apocalyptic. The rikti are pretty much greeted with:

Rikti Ground Forces Sighted!
Players: "Meh."

Although it is kinda funny how some of these people here are faking their enthusiasm.

I tend to agree. The Rikti were new what? 2007? Guys, it's 2010. It's been a little more than three years since the Rikti were new. In the grand scheme of things ( MMO time ) it's high time for an update and something new.

I realize we're waiting for Going Rogue but what I also realize is we've received no new information on it since Hero Con and no release date.

Going Rogue coming out ( "Soon" TM ) doesn't excuse the devs from doing their jobs and frankly even while it's in the pre-release phases I think we should see something new. I however have the sneaking suspicion that Going Rogue is going to be used as an excuse to avoid doing any actual work or adding anything new until Going Rogue..

...Whenever it comes out ( "SOON"! TM )

I take it your powers of telepathy allow you to ascertain this? If that's the case, your brain needs a tune-up. I like the Rikti Invasions, and yeah, they might have been too frequent two years ago, but we don't get them anywhere nearly that frequently now.

Maybe I'm the only CoX player who is constantly making new toons, and therefore constantly in need of the Accolade associated with the invasions. Or maybe it's because I play solo 80% of the time, so I don't care what I'm doing at any given moment, but even if I'm playing a toon who already has all the badges, 9 times out of ten, I'll join an invasion team. It's a quick way to get drops, and if you're low level it's a good opportunity to earn XP. I also like helping other people get the badge.

There's a quote that we use down south. "Shot dog hollers."

That means, if I say somethin' and you bark at it, it's because you're probably guilty of it. Just sayin'.

Ah, an ad hominem and an appeal to ridicule.

This is just a version of "Damned if you do, damned if you don't".

I'm sure it's nice and all for those who absolutely HAVE to be "right" on the internet. When you can come up with a real reason why he's wrong (and not just cast aspersions at him), then come back and play.

So their clever scheme to avoid doing work is to...do work?

My stance isn't that they're not doing anything, I specifically do not believe that it takes the entire dev team to work on an expansion that is probably mostly done ( I mean what we saw at Hero Con was pretty far along ) my stance is more that they're not doing enough.

I believe that we should see at least another Issue release before the release of Going Rogue or as an alternative some worth while content updates. I get the feeling a large half of the dev team is just floating around and not doing anything.. You'll also notice a lot of people and a lot of the community actually agrees with me on this.. So, you know.. Yeah..

Frankly I just expect more. City of Heroes has never been that impressive compared to any other game ( World of Warcraft, EverQuest or what have you ) where they're pumping out expansions left and right and it's actual huge updates to their content adding new things and all I just don't see that on City of.. Rather, I see it done on an entirely unimpressive and pitiful scale that could most certainly be done better.

I'm a little peeved too that I ended up spending $60 on City of Villains ( back when I bought it if you wanted to play a Villain having the disc was mandatory ) and then turned around and said "Well actually we've randomly decided that you can play villains without the disc! So those of you that bought it basically gave us $60 for virtually nothing at all! Isn't that great?" yeah, not so much..

City of seems like it could do a lot of things better and it just feels to me like the team doesn't apply themselves adequately. Like they're doing it less than even halfway and thinking everyone's going to be content with that forever. They're not.. They aren't.. Trust me, it's not just me that feels this way.

Oh ye of little knowledge. Time and again it almost appears that people tend to think that lack of experience gives them special insights. i do not work as a game developer, but i have a passing interest in the craft, so i've paid attention over the years. i have seen many game/expansion demos shown at various events (like E3) that were far more complete than what was shown at Hero Con that still took another year to be ready for release. i'm fairly confident that GR is farther along than that since they've been working on it for much more than a year, but videos showing power animations is not the same as a ready for release powerset. Nor is having the basic architecture of one zone ready the same as populating it and having all the zones, mission arcs and NPCs finished. Demon Summonig at Hero Con wasn't far enough along that there was anything but concept art ready for display.

If you think having a few concept/tech demos ready is equivalent to being nearly ready for release you really haven't bothered to learn anything about how videogames are created. And the Devs have continued to work on other things when not directly occupied with GR work, or haven't you noticed some of the bug fixes and additions in the past several months?

So one section of a zone plus one enemy NPC, an ambush and one power set counts as "mostly done"?

I agree with almost everything you have to say but one thing stands out

Quote:

some really big bugs have not been fixed and no word has been given on them like TF difficulty settings and how about MA and SS alternate animations not working with shields out. Like I said I mostly agree but some of these bugs have been around for far to long.

This isn't on the Devs, or the Mods, it is on marketing for this game. The event is awesome (as I have said once today) because at least the mods are trying to do SOMETHING to keep things fresh. It may not be what we want, but they are trying.

This morning I thought I may be throwing too much at the marketing guys, then I listened to the Hero Con pod cast again, and decided my ire was well placed.

Today on VU this was discussed again, and even those who loved the event thought the lack of info was a bit frustrating.

We who read and post on these boards may just be the minority of this game's players, but we are the vocal minority. Which means we are willing to go to other boards and complain about what happens here.

So all in all, I am happy with the Devs, I am happy with the mods, but I have a strong strong dislike of the marketing dept. I would not buy them a beer.

People just don't complain and voice their opinions here because of the above examples. You post an opinion or complain about something contrary to the status quo conservative view that seems to be so popular with the 'cool kids' then you get flamed to crap and back and insulted.

To be fair Jade, I have been on these boards for a long long time. Much of the time it is how you say things, and not just what you say. After a time if you are calm and respectful, people return in kind.

I'm not either of those things.

I think people need to learn to loosen up and take a joke. Not everything carries some horrible sinister motive. If I offended someone I would apologize but honestly I don't see anything to apologize for. Anything that anyone could be offended by is simply because they're too sensitive and are getting offended by something I'm not even serious about.

By the way everyone is discriminatory on these forums. They've got prejudice and bias against or pertaining to something, usually their personal opinions. You do too.
