Have a "No Fog" Day for Dark Astoria

As silly as it sounds, I've always wondered what Dark Astoria might look like without its dark fog. So, maybe designate one day or even a half day a week as a "no fog" day for Dark Astoria. Looking at the map on paragonwiki, it kind of looks like Brickstown but has a huge cemetery/park in the upper NE corner. To keep it a surprise, the day will be random so no one will know when it will be clear skies. To make this event even more special, when the fog lifts, a giant monster will appear waltzing through the city. Those who kill it will get tons of goodies and a nice badge. These GM's will be random so you will have more chances at more badges for different GM's. Once it does happen then Broadcast like crazy to announce the big event...lol. It would be reminiscent of the Broadcasting Hami raids from the past when all would drop what they where doing and come running in to kill the GM. Maybe once in a rare while, the dev's could throw in a unique GM like maybe the Cloverfield Monster...hehe

interesting idea, but i do agree that the fog needs to go. an idea that i got from reading yours and would be much easier to implement is during the day (in-game) the fog would lift, and adamaster would only spawn during the nighttime similar to some other things that are in the game. other than that they dont really need anything else in the zone except maybe change what spawns during the day. but according to the background concepts of dark astoria it is supposed to be "eternal night", the fog itself i dont remember the reason it was there, but the background information can be found on paragon wiki

If I remember correctly, Astoria was fogless once due to a bug.

From what I can tell, the zone looks pretty damn ugly in normal light.

As I understand the fog, it is caused by the spells of the Banished Pantheon.

Presuming that the developers get around to creating a Task Force that pits players against the Banished Ones, we'll see the fog lift and Dark Astoria reworked ala Faultline.

Indeed there was a bug which lasted a fair while, that DA was fogless.

The fog makes the zone - it should stay

EDIT: But I think they should change the buildings to look more like the ones in Bloody Bay, with that gothic style, and the narrow, winding streets - and add fog creatures that phase in and out of the fog to attack you - and make a hole in the north-east corner of the wall to let the sea in to a section of the zone, so it becomes a swamp for the Pantheon to feel right at home

I think you can view DA without fog using demo editing, but I'll echo the people who say that the zone, as-is, looks kinda meh without the fog. The could change with the GR graphics upgrade.

Isn't one of the Praetorian AV missions set in Moth Cemetery without fog? I want to say it was Black Swan, though I don't recall for certain. I remember the last time I fought there I suddenly realized I was seeing the sum of all the bits and pieces I've seen over the years. I tried to get a good look at the city section outside the temporary barrier, but the team was leaving and I had to get out for the next mission.

With graphics changes, would it be possible to have swirling or rolling fog? That way, larger chunks clear temporarily, but you still have the fog.

There are several missions on that map.

Hmmm, I like the idea.
I also like the idea of making it into a zone with 'older' buildings, like the Bloody Bay.

However, there should be a reason to revoke the fog. A minor TF would do the trick
Finish it and the zone will be fogles for one 'in game day'.

This.

The Moth Cemetery map isn't exactly the same as it is in the zone - most of the ourdoor mission maps are changed, even when they're taken directly from a zone.

That would be awesome! I wish the developers would do more with that zone, it has so much potential.

Aya. Keep the fog. I'm behind the architecture suggestion, though.

I agree that Dark Astoria is one of the zones that should get a revamp... Several could use some changes, both in game-play and looks, maybe to increase the population of those zones. Right now there are several "dead zones". Unfortunately, since right now they seem to be busy giving us the NEW zones from Praetoria, I believe these are going to be put on hold for some time yet. Anyway, there have been some good suggestions in this thread and I hope the Devs get to check them soon...

In resume /signed

Edit: I`ve been thining.... How about an oficial thead about "Zone Revamps" for the Devs to consider after GR?

You can't get rid of the fog...then the ghostly pedestrians would not be there and they are the best part of the zone.

Well, that's true for CoH, but the outdoor maps in CoV are lifted straight from the Island maps. (Or the Paragon City maps in the case of the Mayhems)

Such a change to Dark Astoria shouldn't be very hard to explain, come to think of it. The whole place is possessed by the Pantheon and, presumably, Lughebu, so it suddenly reverting back to what it was 100 years ago overnight wouldn't be out of place. Or even reverting to some kind of twisted gothic nightmare, someone's vision of a scary place.

In fact, why not borrow from Silent Hill for a moment? Have the zone remain as is during the day (rather, "day," since it's always night there), and have it transform into a hellish place at night, complete with boarded up windows, skulls painted on the walls (possibly in blood), spikes, rusted metal doors, decaying, peeling walls, a few streets replaced with grated bottomless pits. Kind of like the whole place hasn't been touched in 100 years and is falling apart, and also slowly turning into a crazy nightmare. Then, come "daytime," shift it back into what it normally is. This can either be an instant, "fog sirens or equivalent" transformation, or it could be a gradual fade from a desolate foggy city zone to a hell at dusk and back into a city zone at dawn.

Yeah, it'll be cheesy, but it'll also make the whole zone a lot more creepy, and it ought to be doable by just changing textures for the most part.

Well, it could actually be fun... It should have at least some more "nightmare horror" feeling, with all those neighboors names based on famous horror actors/writers
