Adam Titanium!

Adamantibia?

But seriously, there are still plenty of names available. It's just all the easy ones like 'Freedom's Hero' or 'Shield of Angels' are probably taken by the people before you.

But don't despair!

Sometimes the search for a name can result in something so surprising you can hardly believe it.

For example:
I recently obtained the name Crystal Witch for an ice/kinetic controller. Surprised? I was.
Another name I grabbed recently? Necrobiologist.
No ****. This name really was available for my necromancy/pain mastermind.
Most surprisingly since that name was mentioned in a webcomic.

THERE ARE STILL NAMES OUT THERE PEOPLE!

Ahem. Which server was this where you couldn't find the name?

PPS: As it turns out both of the previous names I listed as 'easy' turned out to be free on the Virtue server. Let's say Hammer and Black King instead.

20 Characters?!?! I'm at 90+ and counting.... Perhaps you angered someone if they'll only let you have 20....

I just picked up Holly Go-Weirdly for a mind controller on Virtue (snapped straight from the MST3K short, "Design for Dreaming", about a girl in a 30 minute hallucination about a car design convention...one of the best shorts evar).

On Virtue, no less. I thought that one would be gone.

Trust me, names are still there.

Currently playing:
The Domestic: Broom/WP
Shadowhex: Dark Control/Dark Affinity
Defenestration Lass: Grav/Kin

I can't believe I forgot my favorite naming tactic: Think outside the box. Think way outside the box. Come up with something so strange that no one would have thought of it before. Examples:

Tik Taq Toe - While on the surface it looks like intentional mispelling, it's actually taken from the name of a Warhammer Lizardman special character, Tiktaq'To. Lizardman names are great alternate spellings for phrases. Others include Itzi Bitzi and Sokitoomi.

Red Ones Go Faster - Name given to one of my Superspeed characters. The name comes from the Ork belief that a vehicle with a red paint job will out perform a similar vehicle that is painted a different color.

Just For The Halibut - I used this old pun as a character name just last night for my "fish-turned-villain" character.

Robotic Pirate Ghost - One of my friends heard the phrase "Robotic Pirate Ghosts" while playing a video game. He told me about it the next day and it become a running gag between our little group of friends. So I like to use that name in video games.

Just an FYI that name isn't bannable because it's a wolverine rip-off, it's bannable because it's a copyright infringment of the classic Sci-Fi movie Logan's Run.

That is a title of a movie and isn't covered by copyright.

Yes it is. The GM's err on the side of caution and have genericed characters with movie title names for copyright/trademark violation.

Interesting, seeing as how the US Copyright office says otherwise. Titles can be trademarked, but it wouldn't be infringement unless they reference the movie in the bio.

FW was using the term "characters" to refer to the limit we have (20) in a toon's name. He knows that a player can have MANY more than 20 toons.

The Copyright office doesn't work for NCSoft. The GM's generic names so the company can show coutrs that they do indeed make every effort to enforce copyright/trademarks, and that they are in fact more strict than the law requires.

No the law doesn't require them to generic each and every possible violation. They recognise the fact that it is impossible for them to catch them all, so they only need to show that they take action when they become aware of a possible violation.

So yes the GM's will generic names you don't think are a violation. They also have an appeals process you can use if you think they were overzealous in their decision.

Now back on topic.

Yes, there are plenty of names available for people that aren't lazy and/or uncreative.

No, the vets didn't take all the good names 5 years ago, because those same vets aren't having any problems coming up with new names for the characters they are currently creating.

I think Madadh was being facetious.
