Really, you don't want to engage in a Robowar.
Yeah, it's been noted. I found the magic button and have never felt so peaceful lol

Ah, i see. Heh, maybe i was a bit jumpy there. NP.

This thread is FAR more entertaining than any PvP I've ever seen or been involved in.

well i like my dark/dark scrapper
and i'm even reluctant to make a second build
i like how his powers work
but i understand in pvp things are different
the advice i got was not to try because it would be impossible to keep my toggles up
the mezz protection toggle is too easily overcome
i'll try it out for myself one of these days
maybe this weekend if i get some free time

Is this a poem or something?

There I was between a rock and a hard place. Then I thought, "What am I doing on this side of the rock?"

I try not to hold it against the pve community.

lol, i love it. I even read it like a poem !!

But umm, I have seen dark scrappers do well. Yes the offensive toggles are annoying but generally not that big of a deal. Whomever told you not to try is likely just bitter over i13 PvP changes. If anyone is to be upset about i13, mez is not one of the reasons. If anything mez was fixed. There was a point where a dominator or controller automatically won if you didn't have an entire tray of Bfs. Now Doms and trollers are where they should be.

This sounds like the old pvp system to me. Toggle management under the new system is about as easy as it can get.

Bravo, AreSupreme. I wish you all good success in reaching out to us PvE'ers. Although I am not a PvP fan, I would like to see that part of the game flourish. I'll give PvP a try again just because of this post...just don't expect me to spend TOO much time PvPing until I get at least one Live 50 under my belt (darn altitis)

Story Arcs I created:

Every Rose: (#17702) Villainous vs Legacy Chain. Forget Arachnos, join the CoT!

Cosplay Madness!: (#3643) Neutral vs Custom Foes. Heroes at a pop culture convention!

Kiss Hello Goodbye: (#156389) Heroic vs Custom Foes. Film Noir/Hardboiled detective adventure!

Why dont you all just get on the boat and ask for cross server pvp?

Every server has a Sirens Call... They should all be the same one.

I have been lobbying*sp for this for like a year... Cross Server PvP would make it so you PvPers would have plenty of people to PvP with.

Yeah it can be a bit frustrating at first. If you are blue side, beware of stalker. I guess my best advice to you would be keep it moving. Even if you are a sturdy toon those crafty lil' buggers come in packs for the biggest prey. Also, your best bet will probably be Siren's Call mid-day and if you really wish to be annoyed RV lol

_THAT_ is a great idea! Though, sometimes particular servers have QoS/Routing issues, at least they had in the past. Maybe they have fixed that with network/provider upgrades.

I am capable of zone pvp in Sirens Call or any other pvp zone. I have like 8 or 9 50s purpled and PvP Ioed toons specifically for PvP. Just the thing is... 99.999999999% of the time... I dont like PvP AT ALL.

Ares,

I want to thank you for putting the time and effort into writing this guide. As part of my job I am trying to gain a greater understanding of PvP, and as such I'm trying to gain some knowledge before I enter. While I've mostly done my research already, I love that you are trying to empower people to gain greater perspective on this aspect of the game. Who knows, PvP'ers on some (un)lucky server may soon get to pwn a mod even if they don't know it.

On a more general note, PvP is a controversial subject. The PvP forums are not a ghetto to force PvP'ers into but an area where that is the sole topic of discussion. That does not mean that it is the only area where PvP can be discussed.

People on both sides of this debate, both pro and anti pvp, have acted improperly in this thread. Most of that is gone now. But if anyone feels that something is in the wrong forum, the best course of action is to notify a moderator. If that doesn't work, it probably means that the decision didn't go your way however if you have questions feel free to PM me.

Going into a thread and writing the equivalent of "get back in your box" is probably a bad idea. At best explain why you think it belongs in a specific spot and ask the author respectfully why they placed it where they did. I can see several arguments about why this could belong in about 6 different forums, but I can understand why the OP wanted to place it here. This topic is acceptable in this forum.

Also, when people have negative reactions, please use the ignore command. There are those who love to push buttons, don't give them the satisfaction. That goes for both PvP and the forums.

I don't PvP because I don't like it. However, as you pointed out, that's not terribly informative, so I'll tell you whyI don't like it.

1) Bad attitudes. In my experience, PvPers are rude and insulting, and enjoy degrading an opponent. There's no respect, no sportsmanship.

2) No balance. The ATs and power sets are not balanced. There are times when you have exactly 0 chance of competing. A competition without competition is... what? As an example, consider the day I took my Inv/SS Tanker into BB and found myself facing a Zombie/Dark Mastermind. I was unable to reach him, and had minimal defenses to his dark powers. I could attack the Zombies, but he'd heal them for 3 times the damage I could do, so there was no way to fight back. Personally, I don't find that fun. Similarly, there's the entire Stalker class. When you can defeat a foe in less than a second, there's no way to compete. Blasters do this too. It's like playing chess and telling your opponent that he doesn't get to move.

3) Ganking. Related to the above, it's the same non-competition thing. I don't mind losing, it's when I can't figth back that I get frustrated, and frustration isn't fun.

4) Griefing. Related to #1 above. Beaming people into drones or holes in the geometry, or just pursuing a player and defeating him over and over when he can't fight back. I remembre being in Warburg once, and trying to leave the zone. I came out of the hospital and was beamed into a gank. For half an hour. I stopped playing.

Now, I have had a couple of good PvP experiences.

The first time I went into a PvP zone (BB), I was using my Corruptor (Nrg/Traps). I encountered someone playing a Thor clone Tank, and we began an aerial battle (curse suppression...). It was a pretty interesting fight, and was decded by lack of endurance and a crowd of Shivans. We both fell out of the sky and had to flee from the Shivans, and lost each other in the confusion. Very comic-booky.

The second time, I was playing my Bots/FF Mastermind in BB. People were delling on the docks as they often did, and I was just nearby watching. A Scrapper decided to attack me, and it sent my bots into combat mode. He found himself unable to defeat me, so he took to the air, I imagine hoping to lure me away from the bots. However, I happened to have Group Fly, so my bots followed us into the air. He flew straight up as fast as he could, presumably to make me outrun the bots. I did so, quite on purpose. The bots fell to earth, and he moved in for what he must have thought would be an easy kill. Unfortunately for him, I had Air Superiority queued up, and once hit, he fell from the stratosphere, taking massive damage from the fall, right among my waiting bots. As I swooped in for the kill, someone else jumped me and I was defeated, but I enjoyed the battle. It was one of manuever and cunning. Plus, I was winning until someone interfered...

Unfortunately, this is the sum total of good experiences in PvP in CoH.

well ares, i dont pvp much anymore, not because of mechanical changes but because of changing time restrictions, but i do applaud you for the effort you put in, you were professional and were treated discourteously, and that reflects poorly on the community. But i thank you for your effort.

This.

And for the heck of it once the Halloween event is over and though my main is a Eng/Eng Blaster (Doomed I know ) I m gonna make an effort to do a few runs a week into Siren's and RV just to try out a few of your suggestions. Just so I can say I gave it a shot, so who knows?

Thank you for the guide and good luck with your attempts. I also think PP had a good idea about the cross servers to help boost PVP.

I had a vision today...

You wander into Siren's Call and do a /whoall, and are delighted to find a list of 50 players in the zone! Unfortunately they're ALL Stalkers, and the zone appears entirely empty...

How on earth would this play out? No one could see anyone else, so no fighting would be happening.

Actually this is one of the big reasons I don't PvP. I've learned how to play this game, but PvP is a totally different beast from what I've seen and I don't really have any interest to relearn the game for that. Also apparently I have no toons that fits the suggested power sets for ATs. :P

Otherwise, I think OP did a good job of trying to suggest and inform.

Welcome to Going Rogue! Now everybody can play a Stalker.

Except for me on my Bane hunting Stalkers
