Attention Heroes and Villains,

We will be hosting a targeted test of the 2009 Halloween event on the North American and European Training Room servers on Friday, October 2nd at 11:00 AM Pacific / 2:00 PM Eastern.

The event will last for approximately 6 hours and will end at approximately 5:00 PM Pacific / 8:00 PM Eastern.

If you are able to participate, please post your feedback in the following forum thread.

We would like to get your feedback on the following :

  • Are objectives clear when the Event is running?
  • Are rewards being handed out correctly?
  • Are there any problems with the event occurring in any City Zone? (Note: The event will only be present In Paragon City or the Rogue Isles City Zones, and not in any PvP Zones, Hazard Zones, Trial Zones or Co-Op Zones)
  • Are there any graphical effect bugs?
  • Do banner icons appear correctly on the MiniMap when the event is running?
  • Do waypoints correctly appear when the event is running? (Note: Navigation waypoints of active Missions orient players to the Halloween Event objectives when a player’s character is near one, and should disappear when they leave the area.)
  • Are enemy NPCs appearing at the appropriate level? (i.e. a Level 50 should be able to fight side-by-side with a Level 5 character).
  • Are all badges awarded correctly?

Dark Fiend - participate in defeat of Dark Fiend Banner
Hell Hath No Fury - participate in defeat of Women Scorned Banner
Terror - participate in defeat of the Transparent Terrors Banner
Monster Masher - participate in defeat of the Monster Mayhem Banner
Monstrous - participate in the defeat of the Aspect of the Sigil Giant Monster
Hell and Back (Accolade) - receive Dark Fiend, Hell Hath No Fury, Terror, Monster Masher, and Monstrous badges to earn this Accolade
We have set up a Global Chat Channel on the Training Room called “Halloween 2009”. We encourage you to join that Global Chat channel to share your experiences with other players when the event is running on Friday, October 2.

Enjoy!

I don't work all week, and you do the test two hours after I leave for work tomorrow...

Absolutely horrible event *nods*.

Hope the testing goes smooth

I have tomorrow afternoon free, so I'll be happy to participate and provide feedback. I'm very curious to see how the waypoint thing will work and the banner thing, whatever that is.

Gah... did you specifically pick the hours I would be at work? Oh well. Hope to hear more info soon, sounds fun.

So does that mean all halloween spawns (including ToT mobs) use GM code now ?

Just going to ask a few more questions.

1) Is Jack In Irons still only a 10% chance of spawning in 20+ zones? If it is, CHANGE IT TO 20% OR PUT IN A STREAK BREAKER! (so at least 1 out of every 10 spawns will be Jack)

2) Has the bug that caused the spawn rates of Spirits to be too low when ToTing been fixed (well at least attempted to be fixed) ?

I'm copying over the most recent versions of my favorite characters to test things with now, and will probably sit up all night waiting for the thing to go live in the morning. Then I'll spend the remaining weeks until the actual event goes live freaking out, as I always do when my test characters have badges and goodies my live ones don't.

Anyway, I take it from all of this that the event has been planned this time with enough room on the schedule for actual fixes to go in before it goes live, rather than this just being a double check to make sure it doesn't blow up the servers like last year? If that interpretation is accurate, that's very good news! Thanks!

Hmm. Multiple objectives, each at randomly spawning banners? Sounds to me like City of Heroes is getting public quests. I'll miss the beginning of it (catching an early movie matinee) but I'll definitely want to stick my head in for some part of this.

This is not a whine as such but why so short of a test. Some of us (I'm Speaking for the East Coasters) who have jobs, family's or other responsibilities till late afternoon will get very little time with the event if any.

Unless they are planning another test after this one, it seems to be mighty short for finding problems. Something along the lines of last years CoT ghost debacle comes to mind. Especially since it seems they are adding some new things to the mix, which is deeply appreciated.

I guess I'm asking would it hurt terribly to leave it going for the weekend? It seems to me that a lot more feedback would be available to the devs.

2 cents and all that...

Only six hours? I hope my friends are available during that time frame.

These event tests have always been just a few hours.Seems it is actually 2 hours more than it has been in the past(6 hours-compared to 4-hours)
I also seem to remember that there was a second day of testing in the past years, you know, work out the bugs found in the first test.
Hope to see many of you there.

Remember guys this is just a TEST of the Halloween event; even if you miss the test (which could be buggier than an Egyptian Plague) you'll still have the live event which will go on for DAYS. You'll get your chance.

I think for some people (certainly for me) the concern is that six hours might not be long enough for all the new events to even fire off, let alone to actually find repeatable bugs in them. Especially since some scripting bugs might not show up immediately. For example, another MMO recently had a launch event where the scripts worked fine at the start, but the longer it ran, the buggier it became. By day three of a four day event, it was literally unplayable. For myself at least, the concern isn't missing a chance to preview the event before it hits live - it's the likelyhood of missed bugs making it live and hanging around until the live event ends.

IIRC, last time they put an event on test for us to abuse (errr i mean test), only lasted 2 hours. So bumping it up to 6 is actually an improvement.

Maybe they mean public quests that people will actually want to regularly participate in....
