2009 Halloween Event Test Friday October 2nd 11am Pacific

Hee, Hee..this is funtastic. I got the Dark Fiend badge, then decided to wait for live.
I knocked on a few doors and got two treats right off the bat, and my first trick included a spectral.
I cannot wait. I do not team, but I am teaming for this.
Lisa.
So don't wait for heroes, do it yourself

My observations of today:
1) The ToT seemed to work as well as before. Though I was also getting salvage and recipes off kills. So that will help to curb some of the knock-and-run tactics that people have been doing. I'm not sure how the level was working though. Our team had me (the leader) at +0/x1 and a mission holder at +2/x5 but we were consistently getting 53s. Another team was consistently getting 50s. Not sure what was going on with that.
2) The new zone event is pretty cool and I enjoyed it. But there was some lag and disconnects associated with it that I guess I get for just about any big event. The only downside is that once the "aspect" spawns, nobody knows where it is.
3) When everyone splits up to find the aspect, it's already dead by the time it's announced. I never got to fight one and I sat through three of the events. They may need more HP or something.
4) I fought Echoai three times, got six merits, and never a badge. Is he somehow different than the one that normally rewards a badge? Is there a bug? Or was my group simply not doing enough damage? Hard to believe since over half our team was Blasters. And will it be hard to get the Jack badge this year? I never got one last year, and I didn't see Jack on test at all.
Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.

Feedback recapped from another post I made:
My personal observations:
1) Fantastic new badge art. Told Mod 8 that whoever designed the art work should be given serious kudos. I would also extend my opinion on this to the other various icons and textures (i.e. the banners) with related designs.
2) I love having options. The Halloween event now gives you four options if you wish to participate in the event. You can hunt Eochai and Jack, Trick-or-Treat, chase after Zombie hoards, or play capture the flag(s) to battle against the Deadly Apocalypse. And, of course, you still have the option of just blowing all of it off and running the same content you'd usually be running if that's your preference.
3) The new Deadly Apocalypse badges seem relatively easy to earn. That's a good thing. It should be possible to earn the Accolade within about four or fewer instances of the event with even a tiny bit of effort. This should be much easier than getting that Unseelie badge was the first year it was added. Badge fiends rejoice!
There was some discussion that it might be nice to see the Greater Aspect marked on the map when it spawns so that it's easier to find. We were told that feedback would be passed along to the developers.
Cath also suggested that when the Greater Aspect spawns, it should spawn with with Lightning Bolt animation so that no matter where you are in the zone, you can see the flash of lightning reaching all the way into the sky. I'd love to see something like that.

This is not a whine as such but why so short of a test. Some of us (I'm Speaking for the East Coasters) who have jobs, family's or other responsibilities till late afternoon will get very little time with the event if any.
Unless they are planning another test after this one, it seems to be mighty short for finding problems. Something along the lines of last years CoT ghost debacle comes to mind. Especially since it seems they are adding some new things to the mix, which is deeply appreciated. I guess I'm asking would it hurt terribly to leave it going for the weekend? It seems to me that a lot more feedback would be available to the devs. 2 cents and all that... |
The EVENT will run for longer than 6 hours, and you'll have lots of opportunity to play.

As others have said, it would be nice to have the Aspect marked on the map when spawned, or at least show an indicator when you get close to it. A few more HP on it would be a bit of a help as well, especially for times it spawns in large zones such as IP. People were complaining that it was dead before they got to it, which made sense in IP. I was just a bit surprised we found it as quickly as we did with that large of a zone to hunt through.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

My only worry is that the focus on the new stuff doesn't overwhelm bug reports about how the old stuff functions, like it did with the Ghosts last year. Hopefully, there will be time between testing new stuff for some of us to check door spawns.
