Lost a slot because online store goes down?

I find this kinda hard to believe because for almost the year I've been playing I have never seen any type of threads like this on the forums and have never happened to me before. Now there is like 50 different threads all of people complaining cause they don't have access to something they paid for.

Sorry if this is wai I've never seen or heard about it the whole time I've been playing and I have also seen the store go down plenty in the past and not once lost a character slot because of it.

Why is it that I posted a thread about this last week, and clearly said "Oh hey, my slot came back when the store came online! All is well, happy day," but now that the store has been down a bit more, people are freaking the **** out and crying doom?

Grow some patience, people.

Any time you get upset about the slot you had not being there, I want you to come to this page and read this:

The slot you purchased will return when the online store becomes available. Wait.

Then you haven't been paying attention.

It has happened before, but as a testament to just how stable the NCSoft store is, previous outages were so short, that you and others never noticed the disappearance of empty slots (past the 12 original). But it has happened. And that's they way extra slots always worked from the time they were Beta Tested. I was there, trust me.

That there are "50 people complaining about it" because, for the first time I've seen in 5 1/2 years, the store's been down for more than a day.

Update: As of 11:50 am Pacific the in-game store is back online and my slots are once again available.

On Union (EU) shard it says Online Store is currently not available as of today Wednesday, Sept/30th.
With no free slots left, if I'd now delete a toon to make room, would I run into the same issue like last Friday when the vet and bonus slots appeared as locked?

Yes, you'd get the same problem of being locked out of that slot until the Store is back up. Unless you only have your original 12 slots. Those are safe, it's only the ones purchased through the store, the original extra slots awarded when this feature launched, or those earned through Vet Rewards that are affected.


If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Hmm...the in-game store appears to be online, and after checking with our Ops team, no outtages were reported.

Please note that we did publish a new build to the Live servers today, and that if you logged in right after the publish was completed, the online store may not be immediately visible/available.

If you come across this again on the EU servers, please file a Support Ticket.

1) It's down again.

2) Even if it comes back up in five minutes... BAD DESIGN IS BAD. The flag/database field/whatever you wanna call it that stores how many slots I've redeemed/purchased shouldn't be a part of the 'store', it should be a part of 'my account'. If I can log in and play, I should be able to use the slots I've PAID YOU MONEY FOR. PERIOD. Get the store back up... and then FIX BAD DESIGN, PLEASE.

I absolutely agree.. I just deleted an alt to make a praetorian, and amazingly, I have an unavailable slot in the middle of my other toons on Virtue. Horrible design.

Logged in last night around midnight BST and I can make characters, log in this morning and I can't make a new character because the store is down. Last night I had the problem of being stuck on the "Connecting #.." part of the updater, which meant my girlfriend couldn't make the characters she planned on making before going to bed. Now when she gets up she STILL can't make them because of this stupid design.

Typical, really.

Indeed, fancied a quick look before work yet down store means I'm not rolling any toons anytime soon, dashed bad show when I imagine making new characters will be quite popular today.

amateurs in control. How do i lose slots i had gained as vet rewards actually in 08. Store tied to the slots, how does it make sense? Am i going to walk around matt's house and rip all his shorts down cause walmart is closed?

Agreed, for now... in the future, though... They better fix this for good, theres no reason the store going down should have this effect, other then poor design.

Yes I believe you mentioned that in every thread on this topic over the last six hours.

Of course it's been like this since the introduced the client store it's just the stability of the store over the last few months have really highlighted the problem.

Ok, so those of us who never purchased extra slots, just got them as vet rewards and whatever (I had 4 extra, one in use) still have to rely on the online store to use those slots? I just logged in a short time ago to build a new toon under the new i18 content only to find my slots were all gone (US servers).

Can't say I'm surprised that this relies on the online store functionality, but at the same time, as a programmer myself, I have to say that this is kind of a poor design choice. It should've been easy to modify a players account on the game server to say something like "this account holder has purchased X number of character slots" and then they'd always be available, instead of the Game server having to ask that question of the Store server everytime a player logs in to the game (or relogs if switching toons). That's too much extra overhead in code and traffic, and I wouldn't have done it this way. Better to mod the user account to show the extra slots purchased at the time of purchase, and save the cross-checking for a once a day routine, instead of every single login attempt.

In other words: I suggest a code rewrite to fix this, and I'd put something in the Known Issues page to cover this so that all players are aware.

Last night, I had one slot left on protector,claimed it, it's still unavailable. Transferred a character, he didn't move. I can't make new characters because my server is full. I'm a sad panda

Yup i agree prepurchased took the day off work and here i am cant play on Freedom because mt empty slots are not there

And making new toons on a dead server to transfer later is lame missing out on SG prestige, teamates, friends, teleporters

So why did I even take the day off

Once again they take 2 steps forward and 1 step back

never can be completely satified here sad

Ghost Falcon, with respect how can you have not seen what must now be hundreds of forum posts regarding the fact the store is and has been down the entire day.
If the 'Ops Team' are telling you this is not the case then they need to either visit specsavers or put some different checks in place.
There are a huge number of players either unable to make a character at all because all their available slots are full or are unable to make a character on the server of their choice.
We have waited in excited anticipation for the launch of GR, please enable people to actually play it now.

With respect try reading the date Ghost Falcon posted that on before jumping off on one...

Nephili necroposted this thread which is causing the confusion (hence why necroing is bad, mmmkay)

In this instance (ie not 11 months ago) it seems that the store is indeed offline.
