About Traps and Dark Miasma!!

I understand that Dark Miasma is prolly never coming to us. Does not stop me from wanting it. However I am really hoping Controllers get /Traps!!!

So what does the mighty controller community think about the possibility of getting /Traps?? Do people want it? What would you pair with it?

Sunstorm seemed to imply that dark miasma would have to be changed for controllers. (thread here) That means it may come, but probably after less difficult proliferations. It may come after a 'dark control' set is made for dominators and shared with controllers.

Traps seems a shoe-in, its tech theme could go with gravity. (I still hope for a gadgety control set, but I'm not holding my breath.)

With Dark Mind Control and Dark Illusion Control, I'm not sure we really need Dark Control anymore. Sure new sets are always nice, but I'd rather have Electric, Air, or Water.

Grav/Traps would be a sick, sick combo. Set up field of death. Wormhole enemies into field of death. Move on.

In fact given than most Control sets will mez a spawn long enough for you to drop Poison Gas and one or two trip mines most control sets are going to be pretty evil combined with Traps.

Back when the game first came out, I was browsing through the booklet that came with CoH and thought as I saw dark miasma in the support portion,"Wow! I think I'll make a illusion/dark controller! He'd be awesome!" Getting to the character creator annulled this, and I realized why I couldn't make that combo. Mr. Fluffy has so much control, he'd make my controller look twice, and the AoE fear and extra hold wouldn't hurt either. I wonder if we ever saw /dark controllers, how much different they'd be.

I want it badly. There's no troller combo on my "to-do" list at the moment, but I'd make a /Traps troller asap.

For what to pair, anything with an immob, so I'd probably skip Ill and Mind, everything else is fair game.

I want to make a Mind/Dark most of all, but pretty much anything goes well with /Dark.

/traps will break the game when it goes to trollers even moreso that it does on MM's. I'd roll a fire/traps immediately and become a hotfeet, toebombing aoe tool of destruction. Then I'd go to monster island and solo all the GM's (one maybe two at a time).

I can't wait.

I just want tar patch in SOME secondary for controllers. I could live with less control in a controller version of dark miasma although except for fluffy I don't see it having that much more control than, say, TA. 1 cone fear, 1 single target hold, 1 AE movement slow - I don't even see why folks think it would be that big a deal to stack fearsome stare and terrify or spectral terror, its not like stacked fears are really going to be all that more effective, damage will still break them and so far I haven't hit much that spectral terror won't fear on its own.

It isn't as much the power colors as it is the effects of the powers themselves - I love the ability to drag a couple of groups onto tar patch and rain AE's down on them with my fire/dark corruptor - I could see doing something similar with a mind/dark controller, just not as much AE until you get to APP's.

Yeah I dont feel /Dark Miasma would be overpowered at all. I've heard the various arguments, and I used to think it would be over powered, but I dont think it would be more over powered than /Rad, esp if scaled down to Controller or MM type values.

Now TRAPS. That could be some serious sick hurting right there. The damage options, not to mention the quasi-control, the mez protection (which continues even when you get mezzed), the zones of helplessness .... man, all of that would stack with a controller SO GOOD. So good, so good. Mmmyahrr candy all up in your mouth, YEAH! But I digress.

Actually, thinking about it more, a Controller might be the ONE AT where the stupid non-MM tier 9 (Time Bomb) could be useful. A bomb that doesnt move and that WILL go off in (what?) 15 seconds whether nobody is there or not is pretty much crap UNLESS you are a Controller. For a Controller its kinda like, yeah, I'll still be here in 15 seconds, so will my bomb, and since I don't kill that fast, so will you be. BOOM. Perfect. Mix that with Trip Mines ... *shudder*. Hell, imagine being Ice/Traps/Ice ..... Ice Slick, Acid Mortar, Trip Mine, Time Bomb, Hibernate. Woof. Funny stuff!

As far as builds, I would SO make Gravity/Traps, Fire/Traps, and Earth/Traps. I think Plant/Traps would be a must-do as well (SoC + CC + FFG + AM + TB + TM = complete safety).

Actually, Plant/Traps would probably be THE build now that I think about it. Sheesh. I dont think any /Traps would be bad tho. I can only think of good things for all of them (tho I guess Illusion/Traps would have some awkwardness like Illusion/Kin does, in terms of Phantasm knocking guys away from your kill zone).

I think if traps went over to trollers it would quickly gain a very favorable reputation which it has struggled with for the most part. It is a great set, but is different than rad, dark, and kin so doesn't fit into the preconceived notions that many people have formed about the "buff/debuff" AT's.

Like you say, every kind of traps troller would be very strong and it would really suit their playstyle.

The problem is of course than anything short of Hami would be easily dispatched for a traps troller

Very.

The regen cap for Controllers is 2000%.

Spirit Tree and Triage Beacon are both 150% base, 300% slotted.

You'd need about 7 ST/TBs to cap out your regen, once fully slotted.

Wow I hadn't even thought about the Beacon and Tree combo. I don't play plant often and always skip the beacon. But those 2 together would be pretty good. Not my flavor of juice mind you but good none the less.

Still tho the idea of Earth/Traps would make me giggle watching my Villain-Pop popcorn as they bounce in the air and get pelted by the Acid Mortar and seeing those few who aren't dancing, huddled over and puking their guts out. Watching Volcanic Gasses and PGT is always a hoot when I can get my Earthies to team with some kick *** traps corrs/mms. So the ability to do that solo would be a great joy.
