Tag censorship

I recently noticed a few tags I like to use no longer show up when I search for them. They weren't overtly offensive, that I was aware. Are mods actively purging tags for reasons other than violations of forum rules?

I think it would be great if all tags got censored into off mode.

Tell me about it. I had my tags deleted without notice or warning and for no reason at all.

I just want people to know how much I like pie......

Nobody has touched my "lol energy" tags yet!

for great justice is my top tag

Normal members can remove tags too, you know...

Just pointing that out. >.>

Max: "Me too."

you can only remove tags you added yourself.

Hrm... could have sworn those checkboxes weren't grey the other week...

I guess this thread answers its own question.

I used to spread around the tag "I like ***" because it amused me. I must have attatched it to like 200 threads. It was, for a brief, shining moment, the most common tag on the entire forum, even beyond "I like pie".

Then they were all modded away. Now I'm a sad panda.

Ah, so we finally meet, for the first time, for the last time.........

People have been going overboard with the tags. The entire system seems to be just used to make snide or inane comments.

And I shall call it the Internet!

I agree, just look at the ridiculous tags put on this thread...

.... in short, very junior-high, just like the appallingly junior-high concept of rating other users. Its just like we got zapped back to 7th grade. "Inane" is a very apt word for the whole stupid concept.

Metaphorically speaking, I was glad to get out of junior high and have no desire to revisit it.... even on a message board.

If you don't like it, just ignore it. Now, was that so hard?

Geez, one more of the minigames brought by the new forums is being nerfed!

But I showed them, and nobody's laughing at me now!

One person's "snide or inane" is another person's hilarious non sequitur!

I weep for our lost tags.

But that's the whole reason I like them!

It's just turned into an extension of the forum games. I can ignore that easy just by not going to the forum or putting people on ignore. The tags are just being used as a way for immature people to be mean or off topic "anonymously."

You know, get hold of a nuka cola quantum, turpentine, and some Abraxo cleaner and we're in business.

I agree. I can see how tags can be useful, but by letting anybody add any tag they want, it leaves the system wide open to the abusive kinds of tags that attempt to drive people away from a potentially useful thread rather than toward it. Personally, I think the ability to tag a thread should be limited to its original poster, and maybe mods.

How is flat out removing them going to improve anything? Other than, you know, I'll stop getting negative rep for suggesting people do the OBVIOUS solution that'd make everyone happy.
