Discussion - Guest Author Program for the City of Heroes Mission Architect System
Whoo, I was wondering when they were finally going to do something with this.
Edit: wait, posted yesterday? Was it hiding?
Good stuff. BTW, the links for RoosterTeeth and pvponline need fixing.

Very neat idea. Can't wait to try out what they come up with.

Wha-wha-what? CoH has sold one meeeeelyon units? Holy crap.
Also: awesome news. Please tell me the Penny Arcade guys are interested.
Also also: the links to Rooster Teeth and PvP Online have a '%29' in them which breaks them.
Also also Oslo: For those not familiar with LolBat.
@Demobot
Also on Steam
As much as the direction of this game has annoyed me as of late I am intrigued by this news.

Pez was right. Darn.
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
Ohhh! Can we get Randy Milholland to give us some of his heroes and/or villains from "Super Stupor"? (Being that the main cast of "Something Positive" are far too evil to be cast as megalomanicial omnicidal masterminds)

Sweet, I used to watch Red Vs Blue all the time so it'd be nice to see what they come up with and I read pvponline every day.
Now, how about the boys from Penny Arcade and Brad Guigar, creator of Evil, Inc.
Lolbat?
Freaking LOLBAT?
I mean, PvP Online is... okay, I guess, but I always throught Lolbat was a throwaway joke character, and not a very funny one either. Why not approach Howard Tayler, resident overachiever of the webcomics community? Or T Campbell with a long-running comic about geeks in a superhero world? Or how could we forget Phil and Kaja Foglio with their track record of mad science?
I mean, come on.
Lolbat.
Those of you who will be at the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) in Seattle this week should make time for the City of Heroes panel discussion entitled, Mission Architect: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Story.
I take it that means Stephen Sondheim will be writing a story arc. Also, will Patti LuPone be a hero or a villain?
Nice, I'll have to keep an eye out when the missions are done. I love the RvB stuff.
While I don't begrudge the folks who like humorous stories their fun, I am not that enthused with broad parody and nudge*nudge-wink*wink designs. Can't say that LolBat is going to draw me to a Misson Architect storyline.
Though I would be on a Foglio authored MA set up instantly....

Just remember, not fun for YOU <> not fun for everyone else.
I personally am not familiar with Lolbat, I am Very familiar with Red v Blue, and very excited anout RoosterTeeth being involved with CoX, and I'm sure they will add/attract other writing talent at some point.
I like that the CoX team is looking to poke fun at their own creations and efforts. Perhaps it is one thing that sets this game a little apart from all the others.
Now, I can't say I wouldn't be excited to see, for example, Stephen King, do a good super-horror story...
Arc #6015 - Coming Unglued
"A good n00b-sauce is based on a good n00b-roux." - The Masque
Until the MA implements some sort of placeable layouts, at least akin to the base editor, and a more sophsiticated scripting system (even a simple version of NWN) this seems a bit meh.
Otherwise, I guess it's good PR to attract potential new gamers but I don't expect high profile DC or Marvel folks contributing a whole lot either.....

One of the earliest Pioneers in Computer Gaming, Scott Adams of Adventure International, actually plays CoH, mostly on the Virtue server. This is one guy who should be asked to do an MA mission. He had a huge impact in the early gaming industry. I have chatted with him on the boards and in game.

Cool feature, but I'm very disappointed that there's been no follow-up on "Dev Choice" awarded missions for "unknown" players since April 2009. Electing player-created missions for Dev Choice awards should've been the first priority before promoting this feature. Please try to award even a couple "Dev Choice" missions to your player base between now and when these "Guest Authors" start posting.
The player base worked hard to put new content out there; the Devs should recognize their contributions appropriately before moving on to "established" writers - even if its only 2 or 3 story arcs out of thousands.

A CoH Comic: Kid Eros in "One Light"
Incredible. This news, coupled with the incoming AE nerf may just be enough to bring the AE nay-sayers back.
Even after all these years, this game never ceases to amaze and surprise me.
Huzzah!
I'm interested to see how this turns out for the authors. I wonder: Will guest authors be compensated? Will they be required to follow the same AE rules/restrictions as the rest of us? Seems to me the "rewards" for a pro to say leave an established niche/following (where they are well liked and where just about anything he/she can imagine is doable) to enter the world of AE in many cases isn't worth the "risks" (to reputation due to snark or comparsons that "my arc is better", etc.). How many will want to open themselves up for what could be some major abuse?
One man's terrorist is another man's freedom (or freem?) fighter; just as one man's exploit is another man's feature.
