He then burns the money that was rolled around in because 'it got all wrinkled' and he only likes crisp bills.

I approve of market activities that interest and amuse you.

Sometimes you can find a "high water mark" where someone tried to corner the market, realized that they couldn't keep up with incoming supply, and abandoned their attempt. I remember taking offense to a supply of several thousand ... something, villainside (coulda been Ceramic Armor) and after buying the first 1200 the price spiked up abruptly from 5K to 100K or something.

By the way, Luck Charms... are a trap.

Day Two - Bank: 287 million

Taking a look down the invention salvage list again, I didn't want to do the same thing this time, but what did I see?

Mathematic Proof
Average Selling Price 1000
Quantity 1900
Bidding 45

Only 45 people bidding and 1900 available? Well that's not right, that's WAY too much supply!

So, let's go on a buying spree, shall I? Okay I buy as many as I can for 5,000, then sell them to those poor souls searching for them. All gone. Now what.

Still over 1800 left and no one wants them? Well then let's waste some money and get rid of them!

Alrighty....

*one hour of buying incrementally later*

Left with
231 million

I've bought ALL BUT 9, and the remaining ones are selling for MORE THAN 6 MILLION influence. I could try to find out how much they're selling them for, but nah, I don't want to give those speculators the satisfaction.

So we're down from 1900 supply down to 9. With the last sale being for ONE MILLION influence! That's a lot better than that 1000 influence price that I started with!

Pics, so it happened!

So I ended up spending only 56 million to essentially DESTROY 1900 mathematic proofs forever and drain the market down to less than a dozen supply.

Wow, that's cheaper than my last experiment, and I arguably accomplished more!

What to do next, what to do.

Yay PK is griefing now

Do it again!

I'm griefing by giving to 1800 people the money that they want? Wow, you've got an interesting definition of griefing!

No, you're buying out the market of affordable salvage. I've done the same with griefing in mind.

It should drive the price up, temporarily, which is going to induce whines of ebil marketeers ruining the markets.

total kick to the gut

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

Well that's because you're an EVIL marketeer and rep farmer, and I'm a harmless nice pleasent person with lots of money to spend and give to people that are selling stuffs! See, cause I'm nice!

Exactly!

See the difference between you and me Chaos is that as a rep farmer, you shamelessly and artificially inflate a player-generated number for fun, thus disrupting and destroying the system for all the other uses.

While I as a harmless nice person am using my money on the market to artificially inflate a player-gen.....

....aww.....

.....CRAP!

Amen...whether the OP caused the current marketear post going on in this forum or not, I am getting quite a bit of satisfaction out of it, even if my participation is only in the observation of somebody else's fun.

I think we've successfully demonstrated that it's anti-marketeers that ruin the market and profiteering flippers that keep the market wholesome and good.

Wasn't there a whole group of people who tried to do this a long time ago to drive prices down and it actually ended up spiking the prices for a few weeks?

Posted

We just wanted to get a screenshot with "0 bids" on Luck Charms. We didn't make it... spontaneously unloading several thousand LC's takes a surprisingly long time.

Edited to add: Yes, the price of luck charms went kinda crazy for the next few weeks. They went from nice, consistent, 40K to 60K, items to "511 /100,000/100,000/511/511" kinda prices. Not unlike what we see now.

The moral of this story is that if you list common salvage for a truly ludicrous price, somebody will still eventually buy it for sheer novelty. This shall obviously be my new investment strategy.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

That's basically what this whole thread comes down to - novelty. Or what happens when a dude with WAY too much time on his hands and WAY too much money for his own good decided to try to alleviate his boredom.

I've already had one person send me a tell describing in detail how I can and should "stick it to the ebil marketeers".

That's not really what I'm trying to do here. I'm just bored and want to see just how much I can "mess with things" before I run out of money. To see basically just how much influence over the market that one wacky person can have.

My next project I predict will be an utter failure, because I'm going after a big shark in the water where previously I was only playing with the little fish. I predict that I will have virtually no impact whatsoever, and I will find out whether this is true or not very quickly.

If everyone did this, the market would be a friendly, friendly place!
