Bad Mouthing CoH
My apologies. You're right, it's not my place to judge what's the "right way" to play because truthfully the right way to play is whatever allows you to have the most fun.

"I'm sorry, was 'it's true, though <grin>' not enough of an explanation?
I tried to use fewer words (only one), but the reply mechanism wouldn't allow me to do that."

They all laughed at me when I said I wanted to be a comedian.
But I showed them, and nobody's laughing at me now!
If I became a red name, I would be all "and what would you mere mortals like to entertain me with today, mu hu ha ha ha!" ~Arcanaville
Eh, I just realized I was being a bit of a hypocrite since I've gotten upset at people elsewhere trying to tell ME what the right way to play is, it's not really right for me to turn around and do the same thing...

Feel free to disagree, because you are allowed to, and let the developers change the game for good or bad.
Considering that the AE has been out for a decent ammount of time and nothing has been done about the increased level of farming and reduced number of people in other areas besides atlas, i can safely say that the Devs don't plan to do anything about the AE farming. It doesn't mean they don't care (as im sure they are atleast alittle hurt that players would rather hit 50 in record time than actually play the game) but it means they are accepting it for good or bad.
I hate the AE system for this reason and this reason only. but sadly, theres nothing we can do about it.
But yes, there is a problem. if there wasn't a problem, you wouldn't see so many people crying in outrage about it constantly. quite sad really.
Whining about everything since 2006.
Ammo switching for Dual Pistols was my idea:

And they did do something about AE farming, the got rid of boss farms, and skewed the risk/reward ratio in the process unless your farming AE the same as you would farm regular content.
In his own way of putting it, he is correct. We have a whole generation of players out there who do not know how powers work and how teammate's powers work. I have personally had people quit AE Teams due to "lack of XP" (meaning it was not a boss XP mission with max XP). I had a person tell me that he was going to give me 3 Stars for a Arc I wrote, all due to "I only give 5 stars when the XP is maximum". I asked what about the story, time spent on custom toons, time spent on their choice of powers... and got a "Screw That".
There are ways to identify exploit missions and I know the Devs have the tools. First, identify guys who level far too fast - that cheapens 50s and active players. Perhaps a maximum of levels a person can obtain per day - except on double XP weekends. Second, look for guys who suddenly aquire massive Influence and Infamy. So many buy Infamy and Influence now it ruins prices and exploits SG ratings. Ever notice the sloppy bidding? The excessive prices paid for items? Surely a SG that suddenly goes to the top 10 sets off alarm bells. It is like the guy said who told me the story "I did the math, to do what they are doing would take 100 guys logged in 24 hours a day grinding boss farms". I have direct first hand knowledge of a SG who purchased their way to the top by conversion. I would hate to be the bearer of that credit card bill!!! WoW does it, they look for massive Gold purchases and sudden changes in player money values. Third, I LOVE AE, I have a chance to make missions, use creative talent, however people like this ruin it for all. Allow AE to everyone. IF a person makes a mission only designed for exploit, give a warning, if they keep it up, remove the power for X period. They have tools to identify such missions and if banned it can be challenged. I know, for some reason my first mission was banned at the start of the new issue. After a month of indignant emails from myself, a supervisor went in and actually played my mission... it prompted a sorry from CoH. So, don't tell me that all boss missions, guys who go 50 in days, cannot be identified. Even if this gets flamed, the point is, should this type of actions continue? Do we need this kind of player? They are not loyal, they are not interested in the art of the game, they get bored easily and go on anyway. We need to stop the gold farmers, despite the fact that I believe in free enterprise. Before they were just a small pain, today they enable exploiters beyond even what I could have imagined 2 years ago. We need to halt guys who make 50 in less than 24 hours. We need to allow good designers freedom and exploitive designers need a slap on the wrist. |

Ever seen the World of Warcraft episode of South Park? At the end, having managed to level their characters to cap (well, level 30) in record time by killing boars, and defeating the bad guy, one of our heroes asks what they are going to do now. "What'd'ya mean?" asks Cartman. "Now we play the game."
A remarkably perceptive comment on the nature of power levelling, and on those who choose to level at the fastest pace possible, IMO.

Everthing Airman says above is very true. Yes Ive heard the old song and dance from others about "I just like the max. xp mission in AE, its what I like." Bottom line to comments similiar to that is that it burns the game out. It belittles the achievements of other players with vested time in the game.

Lots of 50's yada yada. still finding fun things to do.

You are in a maze of twisty little passages
Personally, I consider it an achievement to reach 50 in a couple of months. First one took 15, second one took about 3-ish. Doing it in a couple of weeks seems kind of... too fast. In days seems kind of pointless, but if that's what floats your boat...

Cause most of it was true they did tell players they would get a ban for lvling to fast but still i hear ppl saying i got to 50 or so in like 2 days. and CoH knows they cant get rid of AE cause its one of there prime features so its nerf/nerf/nerf until its used like they intended

Seen issue 16? Thats gone a long way to helping sort it to the way its meant to be used for.
MA was imo more suited for the people who like to read interesting storylines rather than people after XP anyway.
@Damz Find me on the global channel Union Chat. One of the best "chat channels" ingame!
Someone else may find another loop hole in AE, but it'll be fixed- and that's much better than messing with the entire system just to fix a trivial problem.
