Forum Recognition Poll

We had the 'Peoples Choice' awards for 2 (IIRC) years, which included favorite SG, most helpful poster various in game things (like favorite TF)
Not quite sure why they stopped with that (probably the Freem 15 thing)
@Catwhoorg "Rule of Three - Finale" Arc# 1984
@Mr Falkland Islands"A Nation Goes Rogue" Arc# 2369 "Toasters and Pop Tarts" Arc#116617
I vote that Hypo oath wins all of those titles, just cause.

Man, I miss pilcrow.

I've never been a fan of these kinds of popularity contests, largely because I rarely contribute anything more than idle banter and so never get elected.
More seriously, though, if we go by reputation as a mechanic, that's a really bad measuring stick. The people with the most stars/green squares are usually the people who make good jokes and the people with the least are people daring to hold an unpopular opinion. It's simply not a fair way to judge.
A thread of recognition, however, especially as mentioned, wouldn't be too bad. It's interesting who would get named a lot, though I suspect Arcanaville would rank pretty high on the list. Still, as long as it's done in good spirit, it should be interesting to see.
Samuel_Tow is the only poster that makes me want to punch him in the head more often when I'm agreeing with him than when I'm disagreeing with him.

Snippet:
As this would require Dev involvement I am putting this thread forth more in the nature of a petition/poll to see if there is interest in the forum community. If enough of us /sign this or support it through positive discussion, maybe the Devs will agree to ratifying the prize.
|
Also, /unsigned because many of the people who would "win" would probably not even want in-game recognition for their "accomplishments." I know that if I were to win something (and there is absolutely no chance of that happening), I wouldn't.
My vote is unbiased, as such, I vote for Hypnotoad for all categories.
All hail Hypnotoad.
All glory to the hypnotoad.
Down with hypnotoad up with brain slugs!
I remember being up against Pilcrow in the most helpful poster category. I also remember thinking that I was screwed.
Man, I miss pilcrow. |
You and me both. Which still confuses me... how anyone could possibly put me in with you and Pilcrow is... I dunno. Now if there were a psycho catagory added, I'd go for that.
*side-note - Wasn't it Pilcrow that won for best forum avatar one year and within a week his avatar was banned?
This would be nice but only if it was in the hands of the community managers, not the players. Seeing Dark_respite with a 'Video Goddess' or Steelclaw with 'Lord of the LOL's' would make me happy but under player control it would be a mess.

Great. Now all I can think is: In the red corner! Weighing in at 36 hundred and 39 posts, the Vixen of Videos, the Duchess of Directing, the Priestess of Presentation, Saaaaaaaaaaamuraiko! And in the blue corner! Weighing in at a whopping 18 thousand, 174 posts, half incomprehensible, the Doyenne of Digits, the Matriarch of Multiplication, the Queen of Calculation, the one, the only, Aaaaaaaaarcanaville! |

Now I am a nobody again
Recognition cannot be given a number nor a title. It varies too much from person to person for anything forum related. As I don't spend a lot of time on the main sections of the boards, I have not really heard of anyone that is always mentioned.
Recognition is between you and the person you are thanking. It has nothing to do with the wider community. If there is someone you are specifically grateful towards to the point where sending them a message isn't sufficient - then simply make a thread dedicated to them.
A lot of people that play COH are generic geek-types. As such many of them are still stuck in the "hate the popular kids" mentality. This means that anything like what the OP is suggesting will either become a popularity contest, or will become a flame-war about how it could be a popularity contest.
No thanks.
I dont like popularity contests. It always leads to idiots fighting over something and causes a disruption in the community.
No thanks.
I think there have been many who have been part of the community who would be deserving.
Some for information
Some for disinformation
Some for forum help
Some for game help
Some for humor
Some for being nice
The problem comes when you want to recognize them with something other than your good word. That equates to a simple popularity contest, and as such, some people will always feel deserving (Whether they should be or not).
IMHO, rather than something where others can feel bad for not having, if you wanted to recognize someone for their help......
Just say so to them.

They all laughed at me when I said I wanted to be a comedian.
But I showed them, and nobody's laughing at me now!
If I became a red name, I would be all "and what would you mere mortals like to entertain me with today, mu hu ha ha ha!" ~Arcanaville

Well, I remember all those special titles, that was cool. You guys should all have them again (and when you do, try and see if you can get my "Minister of Awesome" title made official, the community dudes don't seem to give awards out to CaH/V posters, you have to, like, make a guide or something ).
No, really, I've been calling myself the Minister of Awesome for years, now, I've even codified rules and regulations for it and stuff (scattered throughout the various posts and threads of CaH/V). I even had my own thread for a while.

Forum titles should return
I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.
Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.
So sad to be ending ):
