I'm Turning My Rep Off
sad that people are abusing the rep system like this...I don't even see this kind of thing on another forum I frequent, and they regularly have more people than we do.

I think I've used the rep system all of... once. And that's because I know the person personally, and couldn't turn down a request for neg-rep like that. :/ Does that make me a bad person?

...In a random sort of inquiry way, as I'm having one of those weird nights of thoughtfulness.

In my opinion only someone with a guilty concience would assume I am insulting everyone that gives out neg rep.
Look at his post. He is basically insulting anyone who gives negative rep without signing it whilst simultaneously refusing to display his own rep. I find that rather ironic given that he still hands out rep to others.
I did not say or infer that not showing rep makes you bad. You somehow gleaned that from the post. I don't know where you drew this "rep off = bad" thing from. Maybe you need to watch your own assumptions. |
No, the ones I am insulting are the cowards that have been using the rep system to make nasty, vulgar personal attacks. Some of who have already felt the wrath of the Mod stick.
The only people upset that my rep is turned off are the frustrated little internet bullies. They sit in their parents basements and gnash their teeth because they get no satisfaction. Their attempts to get any reaction are ignored.
And everyone knows the best weapon you can use to deal with an internet bully is ignoring them.

Wait. What? This has become downright retarded now.
So, the personal decision of whether or not to display your own rep is somehow equal to hypocrisy? Wait, so because you cannot see my rep for any number of reasons my opinions or comments are somewhat less valid than those who are rep farming as a forum game or leave snide personal remarks, safe in their throwback to the age of stars and anonymity?
So, willingness to leave reputation with notes like 'Hypocritcal, a bit too much read into it - Flea' but not display my rep for the sake of ego clearly makes it that much worse?
Wait, why the hell am I getting contemplative at this time in the morning?

So, comedy time folks.
Here I will point out, once more, that your points would hold that much more weight if you'd bother with the basics. You know Punctuation, capital letters...all that good stuff. There is nothing wrong with that signature image and the people taking dire offence are just trying to find something in it. As he's pointed out - character = the devil, characters in the signature and avatar are the same, even if done by different artists and people aren't seeing the whole thing.
But this is wandering into the comfort zone of CoX. You do arrest and detain or does your hero or villain actually kill? I play a killer. I will admit that. Something that's either stabbing something up with souleating blades or stabbing them full of biotoxins is not likely to be bothering with the arrest bit. And in the genre those are called anti-heroes. Plenty of those about in all companies so it's not really that big of a shock... |
The above quote thread got rep-spammed.

Please explain to me where you get any of this from my post. Forbin can clarify, after the fact, that he was just talking about those who use the anonymity of the rep remarks to attack someone. While I take him at his word on that, there was nothing in the post I responded to, nor the quote in that post, that makes his statement sound like anything but a general comment.

Best thing about that guy, he had the police chief make a Bat Signal sort of device to signal him when the city was in peril. Then, whenever he saw the light in the night sky he would leave town for a nice long vacation.

I love that guy. Considering he has no powers or even decent training... that's EXACTLY what I would do.
Come to think of it, why does he dress up like that at all?

Because he, unlike Arthur, has the figure for it.
Also, you are a big lying liar who tells lies. What with your rep not turned off at all, and what have you.

Y'now. No offense. But you honestly thought rep would work out well, despite the fact anyone who's ever been on a decent sized rep containing forum in the past knows that rep farming will occur almost immediately?
I sent this off as a PM to P_P, but I honestly think it's worthy of public posting. RE: the rep farmers
"[They farm rep] Because they are idiots and jerks. Their entire thread to "raise the rep" is a complete joke and even more than that, DANGEROUS. They create "fake rep" which they can then later use to give their opinion more "weight" to newbies that may not know the difference. The only problem is, their opinion could easily be wrong and they could hurt new players who take them at their word because of their high rep count. I've asked the admins to delete or lock the thread, but they don't respond at all. I can only hope that no one gets hurt from this seriously or are turned away from the game because of it." Where reputation COULD have been serious business and helped new players or posters to discover who is useful and helpful to listen to, instead because of that thread, it's now SRS BZNS and basically a joke. 11 of the top 15 "reputable" forumites on the member list got there because of that thread and solely because of that thread. Samuraiko (Dark_Respite) originally posted in that thread but wisely deleted all of her posts in it and hasn't posted there since, which makes me respect her again. If she didn't do that, she'd make it 12 out of the top 15, but because of her taking herself out of it, I'm taking her out of that count. A rising tide raises all boats, as they say. The more rep they give to each other, the more rep power they have to give to each other in the future. It's artificial inflation basically. That's why I've started to ignore the rep system entirely. It had a CHANCE to be useful at the start, but it's basically just a big joke now. I don't care what position I'm in at all with the way this thing is going. I'm much more interested in the comments posted now than I am in some score which is now essentially meaningless. |

I don't care a lot about rep - it's really another forum game. Unfortunately, one in which people will take out their passive aggressive shots, but still). I think that the negative rep is a bad idea, although people will still throw insults and invective into positive rep if they have no other option. You should've seen what one guy did to Brad Wardell's rep on his own (Galactic Civilizations) forum.

Yes, because I'd never been on any board with rep before. Consider me naively optimistic about humanity, I suppose.

However, being as I'm partly responsible for what happens to your title when you hit 10k posts, I kinda think that someone telling me to get out of their forum is more than a bit hysterical.
Not that it's my forum, either, but you know, at least I left my mark.
