However, being as I'm partly responsible for what happens to your title when you hit 10k posts, I kinda think that someone telling me to get out of their forum is more than a bit hysterical.

Not that it's my forum, either, but you know, at least I left my mark.
Which doesn't really prove much. Certainly not to the point of the question "Does no one remember their history?" What history is this in particular, and why should it matter?

I already explained this.

It sounds like you're taking issue with the arguments in the past that post counts don't matter in order to make a false analogy that "if post count doesn't matter, then neither should reputation." This is a meta argument I'm not going to have with you. The premise is not just flawed, but utterly broken.

Close: I mentioned poster registration date, which makes the argument more "if post count and poster history don't matter, then neither should reputation", with the assumption on my part that poster registration date is directly linked to poster history.

The premise may be utterly broken, but since I don't know why, I'm just going to file it away as "agree to disagree" until it's brought back out to be rehashed.

The point of all this is that yes, you may be partly the reason for the "Forum Cartel" title, but I don't see what bearing it has on anything other than an academic study of the history of the forum. The original negative rep comment "Look, if you like WoW so much, go play that and stop trolling our boards" is indeed rude and in my opinion uncalled for, but the response you gave in public here of "Does no one remember their history?" implies to me that you expect this history to be self-evident without elaboration on how it applies to the argument at hand.

You did mention that these are not "your" forums, just as it is not "their" forums. I interpreted this as saying that these forums are somehow "more" yours than theirs, because you named the 10k posts title. Which, since postcounts are supposed to be irrelevant, makes it seem like an odd justification.

Not more mine than theirs, but I do think it's utterly ridiculous that posting about WoW somehow makes me an outsider here. You're reading too much into what I said.

I'd feel the same if this were said to any other poster, although I might have different reasons for many. I'll just say that when someone is telling anyone who's made contributions to this community that they don't belong here that it's a ****** up thing to say.

I also think you misunderstood the point of stating that post counts are irrelevant - multiple posters tried to deflect and derail actual discussions by making said discussions about the number of posts the person they were arguing with had made, and not the content of any particular post. The entire point of arguing that post count and registration date don't matter was to get people to stop the personal attacks and actually deal with the substance of the arguments they were trying to attack.

The premise is broken because history does matter - there's a reason people generally don't agree with Johnny Butane's balance suggestions, why they pay attention to Arcanaville's math, and why they read Fulmen's posts about the market. But if someone who hates the market sees Fulmens' posts and asks "16,000 posts? Do you even have a life?" in response to Fulmen's detailed breakdown of Frankenslotting IOs, how does pointing out that this is irrelevant ad hominem also extend to his history and reputation as an informative and helpful poster? The whole point of bringing up his post count is to negate his history and reputation.

My view on humanity is that a person can be a genius. Put that person with ten dozen other geniuses and you'll have a group of the dumbest people in the universe.

That's why I want to be an individual just like everyone else.

That's exactly why I've seceded from the human race and started my own.

Which is why I think they should be removed, or at least hidden in some way.

I agree.

Two or three days ago, I saw someone use another poster's early registration date to claim that said person didn't actually play CoH until this year. What?

Dunno about registration date, but post counts can be hidden, or at least moved a screen deep. On some other forums using the same software, you have to click on the person's name to see their total post count.

It'd be fine with me if it was all totally made admin-view-only, if that's possible. Rep, post-count, reg date. It'd get rid of a lot of the BS.

Yeah, names and avatar pictures are all you really need on a forum - stats and numbers don't really mean much, or help much.

Stop making sense. This a forum, there's no room for sense.

well, on the old forums, I changed my name a couple of times. All within the first year. Then about 3 years ago I changed it to what I have now. Although, my avatar had stayed the same...until the move to the new boards.

If I wasn't such an unknown quantity (according to my reputation) I'm sure some people would have noticed the name change.

Turning my rep back off again until something is done, just because I don't want to be in "that company". Aside from Steelclaw who's sitting at #9, the top 10 are now ALL fake reppers. Have fun at the "top" guys!
