The Top 10 Features That Hasn't Happened or Have been Removed in CoX.
Probably because he was insinuating that I have put them down, called them liars, and are pissed at them for not giving me content in which none of that has even been mentioned in this post, which I can only assume, he 1. doesn't know how to read. 2. he's coming to the rescue of the devs for no apparent reason other than to hug there nuts.

You should've seen my PMs Inbox before I cleaned it out for the new forums. I had PMs from almost every Dev dating all the way back to Cryptic. When something is wrong, I say so--but I don't pick fights because I don't get my way. You have to pick your battles and complain constructively. I want some of the very same things you've asked for. Holding the Devs at fault because you didn't get what you, personally, wanted, were never promised, and feel entitled to...eh. You're going to get some dissenting responses from more than just me.
Oh, hey, look at the rest of the thread.
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

Hiding behind curiosity while passively hating on the devs and actively insulting fellow users is not the way. Most of the items on your list are cool, but it's not as if the devs said "Man this stuff is sweet. Let's not do any of it, just to spite the population". Probably, technical issues and time constraints, as well as competition with more widely known MMO's, (like WoW) forced the neat stuff to the back.
I get the feeling that the developers aim to better the game, instead of working for more customers. No need to be so tense, just relax and let the improvements flow through. This game is definitely on the up and up.
1. Knockback hasn't been removed.
2. EM hasn't been buffed.
3. Mercs haven't been buffed.
4. Defenders didn't get Thermal/Fire for i16. All they got was some crappy AR.
Only four, but four I would approve of. I do think that there's probably more in the back of my head, but I would need to think about it.

For what it's worth, OneAboveAll, I didn't misread your intentions. Good post, man. I remember all of these ideas, it would be neat to see if any of them might still be floating around on a white board somewhere.

I haven't read a title so full of hate and bile as "The Top 10 Features That Hasn't Happened or Have been Removed in CoX." for months.
The word "top" is the first clue. Actually, beyond a clue it is practically a hate crime against the devs.
I didn't really get upset until he typed out "I'd like to list them here." I don't know if he texts his mom with those fingers or what - but he really needs to wash them with soap.
And then the clincher "IoP's". My daughter almost saw that. Sure she's 5 and can't quite read yet. But still - it could have scarred her for life.
The OP needs to stop with the passive hating and make constructive threads. Like maybe a list of the top 10 things you'd like done in CoX. Heck, you could ask other people to add their ideas to the list.
References to the War Walls coming down were sly references to the upcoming Rikti Invasions. Even with the force field section down (the walls themselves don't come down), you can't go to other zones, for there are no other zones past the walls -- just a few building shells to give the impression there is.
In a game where SuperSpeed is limited to 92 mph for game engine reasons, you will never see a seamless city without an improvement in the servers by an order of magnitude... so, that's at least a few years away, and more likely for a CoH2 if it ever is developed. There's just too much geometry to keep track of and to try to load in the background while you're moving around. Try visiting and SuperSpeeding around all the zones and watch your memory usage go from .8 GB to 1.8 GB.
WoW does it because of the simple geometry, textures, and slow movement. CoH can't handle it... for now. And it was never promised.

11. Good PvP
The war walls like ultimus said was to make the game seamless instead of loading from zone to zone.
|
The "War Walls coming down" developer comment was apparently in reference to the Rikti invasion world event (when the War Walls come down to let the dropships in), and there is no hint that the devs have ever actively developed towards a seamless world for this game.
They have mentioned that seamless world is a "pie in the sky" goal, but that's far from saying that they're developing, or even thinking about developing it.

Storm Summoning is great because it makes you better than everyone else in the game. - Camma
Knockback is mitigation. It won't be removed just because meleers ***** and moan. - Chaos Creator
A seamless world in this game is impractical with current mainstream hardware and internet connections, and anyone who understands how seamless worlds work and has played this game would know that. (Hint: The average gamer's computer and connection can't handle a seamless world at the speeds we move in this game. There's a reason characters in WoW move so slowly)

Unfortunately, "the war walls coming down" can mean all kinds of things and is incredibly vague. It hearkens back in many ways to how things Statesman said in one of the few dev chats (he learned this playerbase can't handle those in a mature fashion REAL quick) got immediately inflated into grand future plans and absolutely certain promises when they were actually nothing of the sort.
Only "War walls coming down" seems to be a magnitude more non-specific than anything Statesman had ever said. Even when it first came up plenty of reasonable people explained that a seamless game world was the unlikely intent, and we've had virtually no dev follow up on it at all. But, hey, 9/11 was a missle attack and Obama was born in Kenya and the National Guard caused Katrina.
Honestly, I think the whole seamless world thing is a gimmick anyways. Is it really that game breaking to wait 10 seconds for a zone to load in? |
However, player perception and usability issues don't necessarily jive with reality and measurable data. The sad reality is, regardless of how brief the interruption or even if the alternative means stretching out travel times or constraining player movement in some way so the data can stream invisibly in the back ground, interruptions in play impact player perception in a very negative fashion. A player would be less bothered if the city he just ran through was empty for a minute while the server tried to catch up his client and slowly loaded the players and NPCs in as he watched. Even if the delay is measurably exactly the same (standing around waiting to be able to open a door, or interact with a mob/NPC until it loaded), the "seamless" approach has less of a negative reaction in a game's player.

@Razoras
There's been a lot of things that have been stated over the years, that have been mentioned by dev's here and there, about things that would happen but never did or has yet to come to fruition and is actually planned. I'd like to list them here. I don't think I have 10. Please feel free to add to this....
In no particular order.... 1. The Vault Announced twice, canceled twice. As stated before, the system caused too much lag on the internal server. 2. Tearing Down/Removal of the War Walls A comment from Lighthouse pre I10. In I10 the War Walls did come down, as the Rikti invaded. Since that time Lighthouse confirmed that is what he was talking about. The eternal construction in Steel Canyon only exacerbated the confusion. 3. Cathedral of Pain Announced as a CoV feature, and actually went live for part of a single cycle. Removed due to massive xp exploit, that allowed someone to click their way to 50 at no risk. SG Bases are on the schedule, expect to see this revisited someday, particularly as multi-group trials would open up a whole new type of content. 4. Working Arena Tourney's In every Arena Kiosk as of I4, nonfunctional since then. While I have no idea if the scheduled matches are working now, there are new player tournament options as of I15. As a bonus, the Arena badges that had art in I4, finally work. 5. Arena Wagering/Gambling (I really thought this was a feature of i4, but looking at old notes, I swear things have been truncated) Player request, I can't find or recall a single Developer comment on the subject. It could be used as another inf. sink if done right though. 6. Incarnate EAT Commentary from Statesman, along with Avilians, and Blood of the Black Stream. Avilians were made superfluous by the awe inspiring skill of the animation department making wings available to any character. As of I12 the implication is that Incarnate is a lost Origin. Watch for developments, it isn't forgotten, just not important to the story yet. 7. IoP's See Citadel of Pain. No CoP, no IoP. Note that these are not truly gone from game, as some SGs on Shibboleth/Test still have them. 8. Resetting the Chess Style Ranking System No clue what you are referring to. 9. Working 75 vs 75 The original reason given for the 75 member SG cap. If Hamidon raids have taught us anything, its that having 150 people fighting in a small area isn't one of the game's strong suits. With most SGs, even with the 150 character cap, having far, far fewer than 75 players, don't expect this to ever happen. 10. A reason why HO's reduced to 33% even though ED was eventually put into place, even though the reason for reducing it was because there was no ED. E.D. or no, Hamidon Enhancements are still quite powerful at the strength of two SOs. They are still stronger than any other enhancement for that role. And to be fair, this really isn't a feature, like the other items on the list. |
S.S.O.C.S.- The Super Secret Out of Combat System. Teased repeatedly in the game's early days. Several ideas were tossed around internally for a skill system and discarded as being to boring or difficult to use. We have every indication that this is what eventually led to the Invention System.
Epic ATs- Avilians, Coralax, and Blood of the Black Stream, were all mentioned once, by Statesman. Avilians are obviously now superfluous. Coralax, from what we have seen in game, could probably be dealt with by use of new costume options. I don't expect to see any of these EATs unless the Devs have story material that makes introducing them work in the larger part of the setting.
so true.

LOL I have no idea what on earth you are trying to say. And I really don't get the IoP reference. IoP means items of power. I'm not sure what perverse connotations you are trying to stir up.
All this talk about passive hating etc....you should probably look back at all my posts and you'll see i've never had anything bad to say about the devs, in fact, I think i've been pretty optimistic with everything they've done up to this point. If I really hated the game and devs you think i'd be here 63 months and counting? RIGHT.
Again for the people who have reading comprehension disabilities, I could care less if the items I listed come to fruition or not, I honestly just wanted to know what ever happened to these things.
Let's go ahead and dissect my list i guess.
1. The Vault
The framework for this is in game currently. It's even in your options to hide stats from the website etc. Issue 15 had a tidbit referencing keeping statistics for future use. So I ask, is this because the vault is still coming true? I always thought of the vault as CoX's version of WoW's armory. I think a poster previously answered the reason, though I was unaware.
2. Tearing Down/Removal of the War Walls
While many equate this to the Ritki Invasions, there was another dev like a previous poster again stated, he wanted to take them down and make cox seamless and that it was not impossible to do. Then another dev hinted at taking down the war walls permanently, put 2 and 2 together, and you wonder, what happened?
3. Cathedral of Pain
This was a major portion of i6. what happened to it, nuff said? Last I read it would be too much work to rewrite the whole thing. Bummer. All mentions of this feature have been taken out of the patch notes, why? why not preserve it for historical purposes?
4. Working Arena Tourney's
You see these in game...
5. Arena Wagering/Gambling (I really thought this was a feature of i4, but looking at old notes, I swear things have been truncated)
This could have been my imagination. But I swear I read this in the original i4 patch notes or some dev article, again I think this was truncated.
6. Incarnate EAT
Meh. Not a big deal, I just remember there was so much talk about them when statesman was around, I dont think there's been follow up since. I'd really like to read the lore behind them if anything.
7. IoP's
Another feature of i6, I remember getting these, and laughing at the bonuses they gave and the ridiculous effect they had on mezz. Now with the new code and changes to the game, they aren't so ludicrous, and would actually fit well within the current game system. Also if you were a supergroup fan, this was one of the only things you could do as a sg. The only other thing left is the VG SF with the Raiders.
8. Resetting the Chess Style Ranking System
When issue 4 came out the Rating system was borked and people were just able to pad there stats, it's been so long since then I'm not even sure what was the actual problem, but now everyone avoids the rating system like the plague.
9. Working 75 vs 75
This was again for sg's to battle other sg's, the last patch note I recall was they were fixing this because it was too laggy. Not sure whatever happened to this, not sure if there are even 2 whole sg/vg with that many active members on at one time.
10. A reason why HO's reduced to 33% even though ED was eventually put into place, even though the reason for reducing it was because there was no ED.
This was me not having a real #10, but always wondered why this wasn't retconned. Since the statement above is true.
Other features that have been announced before their time:
S.S.O.C.S.- The Super Secret Out of Combat System. Teased repeatedly in the game's early days. I love the fact that you left me negative feedback for this very reason. Seriously, I'm not angry at all--just trying to point out where you are wrong. I guess we will have to agree to disagree. Or in your case, I'll agree to disagree, and you'll continue calling people names and heaping passive aggressive blame on the Devs.

Holy cow.... Most of what the OP has listed I have heard of. And I read it as intended, as a list of stuff not in the game yet that the Dev's have mentioned. Then suddenly he gets trolled? Wow, amazing. *Golf Clap*
People are so used to complaining about the 10 things he listed ("Where are my base raids? THEY WERE ON THE BOX DAMMIT") that they didn't bother to actually read his post and automatically went into 'SHUT UP YOU STUPID NOOB' mode.
Guys, stop dogpiling on the OP, you're making yourselves look like idiots.
That said OP, some of them are joking.
It'd be cool if HOs were bumped back up to 50% again, give em there kick again now that we have purples/pvpos/io'd out builds.
