The Top 10 Features That Hasn't Happened or Have been Removed in CoX.
I don't even care about a seamless world, I'd just love if they'd get rid of those god awful war walls and just replace them with invisible boundaries. They're so obnoxious and I hate how I can see them off in the horizon no matter where I go. I mean there ARE buildings behind them so it's not like it'd look odd with no signs of life past the zone limits.

One can argue/RP that without the walls they'd be able to do so continuously rather than in intermittent raids. There's also the problem of coming up with a reason for Paragon to pay to remove the things.
Arc #40529 : The Furies of the Earth
8) Multi-Class: I'm an RPG player! I'm old school AD&D dungeon master and player extreme! I don't want to play a freakin' Fighter... I want to play a half-elven Fighter/Cleric/Mage with access to the Rogue skills. I don't care if my hero advances about as quickly as a glacier on a slow day; as long as I can run my Tank/Blaster/Defender I'll be happy! I can always Farm to get past the early levels... hey... what's with all these vegetables?
9) Hero Patrons: I LIKE the villain patrons.. and hero patrons make a heck of a lot more sense than the villain ones do.. since we all KNOW how well those villains get along with being told what to do. The other great reason to do this is because we can see how the Devs handle creating the Blue Steel patron powers... Do they stick with the standard canon or do they venture into the Chuck Norris forum perception? |
#8 is not old-school enough. You just need your elf. Without any stinky classes, dang it.
#9 just sounds fun, dang it.
Still here, even after all this time!
Wow. Why can't I just wonder what happened to things for the sake of just wondering?

It's hard to take this claim seriously after you've called someone a "dev nuthugger" in this very thread.
In fact, its impossible.

My City Was Gone
I think that is what "the war walls will come down" statement from the developers was all about in the first place.
|
I think that the devs really had no intention of removing the war walls, it was meant to forward the story and got obliterated by really bad timing.
Wait what? Where did we find out what the "Coming Storm" was? What is it?

/whereami:
I don't believe so. I remember one of the old dev written "news articles" where the city council wanted to tear them down because they were not needed since the rikti threat was gone. I think it was supposed to be a teaser, but it was badly timed... by the time it was posted, the issue where the Rikti returned had already gone to the test server and ruined it.

There's been a lot of things that have been stated over the years, that have been mentioned by dev's here and there, about things that would happen but never did or has yet to come to fruition and is actually planned. I'd like to list them here. I don't think I have 10. Please feel free to add to this....
In no particular order.... 1. The Vault 2. Tearing Down/Removal of the War Walls 3. Cathedral of Pain 4. Working Arena Tourney's 5. Arena Wagering/Gambling (I really thought this was a feature of i4, but looking at old notes, I swear things have been truncated) 6. Incarnate EAT 7. IoP's 8. Resetting the Chess Style Ranking System 9. Working 75 vs 75 10. A reason why HO's reduced to 33% even though ED was eventually put into place, even though the reason for reducing it was because there was no ED. |

They all laughed at me when I said I wanted to be a comedian.
But I showed them, and nobody's laughing at me now!
If I became a red name, I would be all "and what would you mere mortals like to entertain me with today, mu hu ha ha ha!" ~Arcanaville
And as for the War Walls, they do come down ... every time the Rikti attack. Sometimes, things aren't meant to be taken literally

They never promised it or said that it was in plan. It's a passing "I wish" comment in an interview. Unless someone can point me to something more specific?
Freedom: Blazing Larb, Fiery Fulcrum, Sardan Reborn, Arctic-Frenzy, Wasabi Sam, Mr Smashtastic.
I still would really, truly love some of the EATs they were talking about back in the day. Sure, the incarnates were already mentioned, but the ones that I was really looking forward to were the Avilians(I think that's what they were called) and the Coralax.
I mean come on, a winged alien race and a lovecraft-inspired race of living coral. There's fun stuff you could do there.

@Golden Girl
City of Heroes comics and artwork
Probably because he was insinuating that I have put them down, called them liars, and are pissed at them for not giving me content in which none of that has even been mentioned in this post, which I can only assume, he 1. doesn't know how to read. 2. he's coming to the rescue of the devs for no apparent reason other than to hug there nuts.

Your comical overreaction tells the observant reader all they need to know about your intentions.

Then they decided to just give wings to everyone as a costume piece and Avilians were forgotten about.
You forgot the Blood of the Black Stream, which were referenced by name in one low-level mission in CoV, the one with the Hellion guy Duke Modragar having a meeting with an Omen of Bat'Zul. That's more than what Avilians got, a single hollows mission with a clue concerning an odd looking humanoid skeleton.

He's not going to attack the devs and make them do stuff for them.

But I note he has no problem attacking other posters.

My City Was Gone
*Before you read this, you should know that I haven't been playing CoX from the beginning. I joined a while after CoV was released at the request of my younger brother, who wanted someone in the house to know what the heck he was talking about when he described this game. I'm not into very many of the technical aspects of this game, and play it purely for enjoyment. I do, however, have basic knowledge of in-game content, and read news posts every now and then.*
That being said, I feel the personal compulsion to address some of the issues that I see here, the main one being "why didn't they do that? It was really cool!"
From my point of view, this game is constantly evolving along the lines of the majority's wants and needs, as well as those of the Devs. They introduce things that they think are cool and/or have been requested by a large number of players (at least, those ideas which are currently feasable), and players react to them. The Devs then judge these reactions and plan the next set of updates. Certain ideas which are not feasable are put on hold until they can be implemented/are forgotten about/are so old that no one cares anymore.
I'm not trying to say that your list falls into the middle/last category of the sentance above (although it might in some people's books). I think that part of the problem is that newer people (in some cases myself) have absolutely no idea what those changes would mean to the game or have even heard of them when they were proposed. Some people like the game the way it is, and have only a passing interest in new content. Others relish the new challenges and options that come with most updates/issues. From my experience, most people fall in between. I could personally care less about a new TF/SF since I don't have very many high level characters to do them with. However, I was never more excited than when I heard about power customization, since I tend to make new characters quite often (I know I'm an altoholic, but I don't care :P).
My point is the same as it has been for a while; what's fun for you is not always fun for someone else, let alone everyone. What you care about may be a non-issue to others.
Also, evolution sometimes has dead-ends. Sure, some ideas were really cool, and there are some veteran players who would love to see them reappear, but most of the new players have no idea that anything like that was even in the game to begin with, so they're not in high demand.
Demand isn't everything, but it still has a major influence on the Devs and the content they publish.
There, I voiced my opinion politely and in a matter-of-fact manner. Please do me the same courtesy when deconstructing it.

They don't even serve a RP purpose seeing as how the Rikti power them down whenever they want to take a stroll through the city anyhow. Then again I don't know, maybe there's a lot of work behind it that I don't know about.
