differences between new and old forums?

Any way to make threads with new posts in them glaringly obvious, like it was on the previous forum?

The FAQ pointed out that New Posts button..... but that seems to give a listing of new posts for every single subforum. Not too useful when you're just looking for new posts in, say, Player Questions.

Whee.

Next question: Is there a timeout on staying logged into the forums? I logged in an hour ago or some, had a browse, played CoH for a while, and I just had to relog. I'm sure I didnt log out.

I'm on Firefox 3.5.1 on WinXP if it makes any difference, but I don't know.
My firefox is staying logged in while I play as well. Have you tried clicking the remember me button next to where you login?

Ah yes it works well, dang it why did it never seem to work for me on this type of board before. Oh well.

I find looking at the arrows next to the thread title a pretty good clue.

And you don't have to hit a Quote button (although, it's a good way to keep the thread properly threaded). You can also flag all the posts you want quoted then hit the New Reply button at the bottom of the thread and all the flagged posts will show up quoted in your reply box.

Also note that when you Quote a post that has a quote in it, the nested quote isn't included in the reply box. That is done purposely to discourage the pyramid quotes. If you want to know the history of a thread you can use Threaded View (from the Display Mode drop down menu at the top of a thread), or, trace back the quotes through the View Post link inside of a Quote.

I noticed the PvP section is back to being called plain old "Player vs Player", and the whole "Pwnz" thing seems to have been dropped, or made less obvious.

Sent Messages were transferred. I still have all mine.

To view yours, click the Private Messages link up in the greeting bar. When you get to the PM menu, find the drop box under the fill bar labeled "Jump to Folder".

Select Sent Items and you'll be directed to your outbox.

For those who like the "View All" install the AutoPager plugin on Firefox. It does basically the same thing, except it loads as it goes, so it's far less of a resource hog than actually viewing the whole thread.

OverAll, so far, my feeling is that the new forums have more complicsted ways to do [i]less[/] useful stuff than the old forums could whilst adding a load of pointless fripperies (reputation?).

Has anyone located where the dev and community digests are ? If they still exist ? I've been digging around to no avail so far.

This new forum feels so rough to me.

Thanks.

I agree the new forums are gonna take some time to get used too. They look nice though.

I don't get many PMs and whatnot, so I can't comment on that.

I am thrilled that I got to keep my post count however!

I strongly dislike the same password for game account and forum account. That's more than down right silly that it can't be changed to be different passwords.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

Edit: Yup, here's your European couterpart: Quinch_EU. If you want to get rid of the _NA, you have to seek him out, kill him, and deliver his head to NCsoft as proof. (Or you could just wait and see what they have in mind...)

Wait a minute...so you're saying they have Sporks in Europe?!

Another questions - will the links for the old forums ever work again / be redirected ? Or are they officially dead as it stands ? Should I bother hanging on to them or just relink everything, and lose links to all my favorite information threads ?

If you are talking bookmarks in your browser, they are dead. If you are talking about links to other treads within another thread, I would say it would be highly unlikely.

If you have the titles of the threads you use to have bookmarked, you can always you the forum search to look for them and then bookmark the new location. That's what I did.

In the old forum, I'd click on a topic and be automatically brought to the first new post that I haven't read yet. I miss that VERY MUCH! Is there anything here that's equivalent?

Also, the old forum had a link to the main site at the top of the screen. From what I can see, once you enter the forums, there's nothing to take you out of them again.

I installed it and it works.
