Right...what I'm saying though is that it should be pretty easy to create a "Retro Hero" or "Retro Villain" in addition to those that has the old solid blue or red background colors, the old borders, link colors, etc.

But the poster above seemed to me to be saying "I want something that looks exactly like the old boards so I don't have to deal with change!" That would have been rather difficult...and unreasonable.

I may have read into it too much, though, and if I did, I apologize.
Well, it depends on how similar folks might be looking for. This hero style seems a good deal lighter and greener to me and uses background images that the old forum didn't. Things like that could be easily switched around (and actually...I'd figure a third look might already be in the works for GR ).

As for the structure or functionality of vBulletin, no I wouldn't think anyone would want to tackle that nor would I want them to.

Actually, the devs could have a good deal of fun with this if they wanted to. Why not have forum styles for signature characters? A BaB style, a Castle style, a Ghost Widow style or a Sister Psyche style. Or even styles for groups - a Freak style, a Nemesis style (hey, you could have steampunk icons), a really colorful Carnie style...so many possibilities.

Suggestions:
Super Packs Done Right
Influence Sink: IO Level Mod/Recrafting
Random Merit Rolls: Scale cost by Toon Level

I'm sure they're working on it - but the main thing is that the boards actually work - we can all log in, post, quote and reply - stuff like he dev digest, picture sigs and so on are just nice extras.

A Ghost widow style would be awesome.

WORD!
I certainly hope we'll be able to - somehow.
Uhm, on a related note: Is there some way to show the code for Smiles and all the stuff that used to have the "instant UBB code"?
After finally learning how to use most of that stuff - just typing it in without the cut & paste it mess...
Now, I have to learn new stuff? Granted, some of it seems fairly similar and I've seen some of the spiffy color effects used here already (and some other board at some point).

Am I missing something obvious here, OR do I need to find some other reference for this sorta thing while I'm re-learning?

QFT. I was a member of GameTrailers(really crappy community btw) when they switched forum software and it was a train wreck. From what I'm told, some of the basic features still aren't working. The switch was over a year ago(or close to it).

If someone wants a skin that looks like the old forums- why not make it yourself, and submit it to the devs?

The reason we switched was because the old forum software was terrible. The devs themselves pretty much said it.

The merge between EU and US board is, alone, worth the change for me.

Dude! Thank you for that! Now one of my major gripes of this board is gone!

Agreed, I'm experiencing faster load times and less annoying bugs than the old boards. Plus now you can see who a person is quoting.

Same here, much faster and smoother. I like the custom page (Freaks/Ghost Widow/ Vanguard) idea. I also like the neato, wiz-bang (yeah I just showed my age) artwork at the bottom of the posts. Now if I can learn how to get an avatar loaded in a non techno-geek manner life will be good!

Pros: Faster, smoother performance

Cons: It looks like it was beaten with an ugly stick. The low contrast monochromatic blue/grey thing flat-out looks amatuerish IMO. It's also not as easy on the eyes for prolonged viewing.

Overall: Not impressed. You can say it performs better all you want, but if its not visually appealing most people won't spend enough time using it for the performance to matter. The web is a visual medium, and right now, this doesn't cut it. Hopefully there will be changes as we go forward.

I'm finding the new forum much more visually appealing than the old one.

"Visually appealing" is in the eye of the beholder. I strongly suspect that most people find it visually appealing enough, and probably a fair number think it's downright pretty, but it's much more likely that people who think it's ugly will post saying so.

Personally, I like, as Steiner at Titan Network calls it, "yogurt" schemes, dark text on light backgrounds, but that's just me. I'm in the first category of people above, the theme is good enough for what it does, and I probably won't care one way or another if they change it or leave it the same.

Is there any way, when you search for your name, when it finds a thread you responded in, for it to take you TO your actual post that you made, like the old forums did, and not make you look through EVERY single freaking post made to find where the heck yours is in it :/

Well, some of us were able to log in a post once we realized that the devs had somehow managed to swap our passwords around. Sure, they posted something about it...INSIDE the boards we couldn't get into...

Goodbye, City of Heroes...I'll miss you.

On Justice as @Amperrie (well, for a little while longer...)

Here's how I do it.

First, click on "Quick Links" on the top menu. On the popup menu, click on that space between "Subscribed Threads" and "Who's Online." (Why it's blank is beyond me, but hey, it works.) You might want to bookmark that page; it's your profile page that other people see when they click on your name.

Click on the "Statistics" tab, then on the "Find all posts by [your name]" link in the Total Posts section. You might want to bookmark that link too, but if you do, make sure you copy it from the link, because the URL that it sends you to will be a redirect and invalid after that particular click.

In the resulting list, click on the top line in the message box, the line that is in italics. It will likely read "Re: [something]", and it will take you directly to the message you posted in that thread.

There might be a shorter way, though; I haven't completely poked around the forums enough to know for sure.

You can set the system to subscribe to every thread you've posted something in.

After that, if you just click on "User CP", on the front page, it lists all the subscribed thread with new posts. That's a quick way I found to check up on the threads I've been following. I'm quite enjoy it!

you change forums when the old one had so much negative attention attached to the game it was losing you subscriptions.if you need some how to hide all that it would be a reason to change it but that is one possibility out of hundreds.

I think they just wanted something more modern and user friendly as the game has just got back on the shelves with the Architect Edition, and will be getting more attention soon with GR.
