Forum is far easier to merge then servers, the accounts were already US side based anyway.
But, it might be the first step, and i cant say enough, they should have merged years ago.

I still say this is the best idea and can't see why they won't do it. it's not merging the servers, people can still play on Defiant, Union etc. the german and french servers can still be there.
People in the EU can play on freedom etc, the Us players get 4 new servers to use with new slots.
I just can't see the bad here. Merge the lists, not the servers. It's all good

Again.. like when I posted this idea/suggestion completly worked out, people are not reading... one server list with each server untouched on the list.
The name proble will be in youre global name only. And that is a lot less of a problem to change if you have too...

I think they will do it, even more so now with the forum mergers, and I think they will do it about the time of Going Rogue.
It would make sense, to open all the servers when you can have what power colours etc you want, whichever side to swap to, and whatever server you want to be on. I think they will just open them up then later on get rid of the emptier ones after giving the option to swap servers.

Sound like a different way of getting rid of the EU servers to me. I *think* the least populated servers would be the EU ones. I could very well be wrong. And then there's the case of moving alts to other servers and name conflicts, etc. Or loose them. I doubt it would happen. But that's just a guess. The US should keep theirs and we (the EU) should keep ours. 
I have no issue with lag (since updating my PC and 10MB broadband) and like it just the way it is.

I think combining the server list is a great idea and should be done ASAP as it makes seance if were going to have a common forum we may as well have a common server list as well that way we can team with the people as well.
On the numbers thing I think but i could be wrong that a while back Ghost Raptor posted server numbers Union (not sure on the others) was above some of the US servers for number of players.
So while we would maybe see the removal of some servers as some point down the line it mite not be union

Aside of the 2-3 unusual busy us servers all us servers are about the same in population as the eu. And I dont think I want to be on a server that has a chance of being so full I cant logg in every time there is a special event.

Slightly offtopic, but anyway.
Its quite funny alot of people put their download speed equal to lag/pingtimes. 'i cant have lag, i have 20mbit!'. Even the good old 512kbit lines were 'big' enough to handle any MMO, at most datatransfer will hit 10KB/sec, having equal ping times as the today's 20 or even 30+ mbit lines. Only uploadspeed would play a limited factor, if you are below 5KB/sec.

I think that merging the server list is an excellent idea, people's characters and other things will stay untouched and everyone gets more character slots.
And people have more servers to choose from, so who says that the US players won't come on the union or defiant servers as it won't matter anymore then.

youre right.. a lot of us players are eu residents who picked us not by choice but by mistake. Sometimes the subscription stuff is a bit hard to follow. And you and up in the us.
If you then have no problem with the connection you stay there.
Now if those same people ultimatly like to meet more from their country it is highly possible they try out UNION (or Defiant). And what about the canadian people who speak french?!

However, several people have multiple accounts and stay forced to pay for both while now they even are on the same server. As far i know, there is no such thing is account->account transfer of characters.
So if you are either US or either EU, no worries, but once u have both it goes wrong. So to your last question, yes abit too much
(in my case, 3 EU accounts, 2 US accounts).

Rednames have said that sever merges are simply not happening in the forseeable future. That might extend to list mergers, cant recall.
I've made my feelings on a full server (not a list) merge very clear in past threads

Nowadays, maybe. But that doesnt stop it having major hurdles in the way.
1) Technology. I recall one of the rednames saying that EU->US transfer was particularly hard, or something.
2) Names. People are attached to toon and SG names, and unless they sorted out a US/EU invisible tag, or at least a discreet one, I think people would get rather hacked off.
3) Community. One some people might call 'unimportant', but the RP community over EU side is rather distinct, with all sorts of stories and characters that have well established backgrounds, effects, prejudices etc. If that all went US side, all of it would be swamped by the US 'lore'. Most of it would be discounted or worse. Which would lead to yet more friction.
List merge, maybe. Full merge? Bad idea, at least in this bots opinion.

I think this might eventually happen, once they could work out how to fix global handle clashes
The server list could have a little flag beside each server name to show which area it belonged to.

There is currently no plan to merge the server lists together I'm afraid. I can't begin to think of the many hurdles that we would have to overcome before we can even consider that idea at this point.

Now that they're merging the Forums, anyone, apart from myself, want to start speculating on when they're just going to combine the servers so we get 15 all together.
The connection to the US servers is fine (I play on both the EU and US servers, and get less lag on the US) and simply copying them to the US would do (and yes i know some of you retentive types will list loads of problems etc in doing this, but in basic terms its copying one server to another, exactly like when they copy Freedom to test for example on the US side), and then they could save money hehe...sorry EU side employees, and everyone could do more with the larger overall population size and even more slots in total.
Anyway, just pure speculation.
