Edit: Ah, panic over, although I can't post over there, I can still log in to the account and change the forum name, so I get the same one!

This is some announcement, isn't it! I hear some of your concerns and we will try to make this as smooth a transition as possible.
The European English and North-American English Forums are indeed the ones who are going to undergo the biggest changes since it is 2 big communities that are going to be merged together (and hopefully coexist in peace).
Obviously there are many, many cultural differences but you have all proven on these boards that coming from various parts of the world isn't so much an issue as long as you can communicate using the same language and learn from one another.
Now, to answer some of your questions:
- Name conflicts will be dealt with but we will have more information on that at a later date. Just make sure you change your forum handle before the move!
- I had already thought of a European lounge and that suggestion has been submitted. The server sections are however bound to change and the Heroes and Villains distinction in the Union and Defiant forums will likely disappear.
- The French community has been warned too, and soon the German community will also be given the heads up, even though some of them have picked up on it already.
This is really nothing to be wary of. With the fusion of the forums, the English-speaking communities will get more Community Representatives looking after them (my two North-American colleagues and me) as well as direct input from the Developers, which is what had been requested for quite some time.

Apparently I even posted twice on the US forums but whatever those posts might have been about is long gone.

I, for one, am really glad to hear this. I read the US forums more than the EU ones these days, and it's annoying when I see a thread I'd like to post in! Direct contact with the developers is something most people here seem to have wanted for years, too - I know I'll appreciate it.
Also: New forum software = \o/
Better make sure that no Americans realize i'm Dutch or else they'll be asking again if we can get Marihuana from vending machines over here.

I for one am definitely looking forward to being able to meet all of you! Although I lurk on these forums I have yet to really manage to interact with more than a handful of you.
We definitely understand the feelings of community that the EU players have and are considering a number of ideas on how to preserve that feeling of community while at the same time increasing the global community of CoH players irregardless of region.
Honestly this is one of the most exciting things for me currently going on, although I too can't wait for blue fire imps and Going Rogue. But more players are more chances for friendship and the additional perspective of you, our European compatriots, is something I personally can't wait for.
That and teasing any players from Glasgow.
Would it be possible to either wipe post counts on the new board, or if that can't be done, then have an option to turn them off?
