Usually closed betas are covered by NDA terms forbidding testers from talking to people not in the closed test about the test. A closed beta covered by such terms wouldn't actually be open even when all subscribers were invited to take part. And, with such terms, we wouldn't be able to discuss the closed beta in the public sections of the forum, though a closed beta section only visible to subscribers would be ok.
It's possible that this is actually what was planned/intended and so why Posi invited us to closed beta. ANd even if this was planned the plan may well have changed since the anniversary.
If there is no closed beta then why invite us all to one (other than for humour, subsequently lost-in-translation, or to sound like a bigger deal than it is)? And if there is a closede beta, even if all subscribers are invited, then why does GF state that there isn't one?
Not really bothered either way - but open and closed beta mean different things - it's why they are called distinct names... And I do like use and abuse of language.

Closed and open beta also refer to the 'state' of the new stuff. Like software released on alpha, beta, release candidate etc, closed is the 2nd step after internal beta.
Some call it a elevator, others call it a lift.
I just call it a beta, who cares if its open or not.

So we should have a not so very closed closed beta and a slightly lesser closed open beta. Both are similar to each other bringing us to the formula:
not so very closed closed beta = slightly lesser closed open beta.
Which can be translated when we remove the same words to:
not so very closed = slightly lesser open
The value of not so very is almost the same as slightly lesser. SO when we get them out of the formula:
closed = open

To clarify my post on the North American forums, we will have a "Beta", but it is not a Closed Beta.
Any "active" (subscribed/paid-up/non-expired trial) account will have access to the Issue 15 Beta.
NOTE: In the case of a Trial Account, normal Trial Account limitations will be in place, so the Beta experience will be limited.
..but if everyone is invited it's not really closed beta, it's open, but we're all invited to the closed beta, so it can't be that we're invited to, cause it's open...*head explodes*

It's open beta, just like it used to be. To call it a closed beta that everyone has access too just confuses the matter. They should have just said 'We're returning to the previous open beta model that we used with great success up to issue 12 so everyone gets access as soon as the issue is published to the test server'.
