With the recent increase in superhero likeable ratings I found it amazing that there wasn't some magazine ads for CoX.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is IMO the most glaring omission.
The super hero genre is massive right now, in a mainstream context.
Dark Knight Returns, Iron Man (with IM2 on the way), The Hulk, Wolverine, Watchmen etc etc etc
Plus there are more on the way. Captain America, Thor, Avengers, Green Lantern and more.
Plus ... There is Heroes, a very popular show on TV about ... super heroes.
If there was ever a time to advertise CoH, as a game where you can be a super hero, this is it.
Magazine adverts, run an advert in cinemas - before the blockbuster superhero movie main show starts. Hell, even put free trial CoH CD's in cinema's when these movies are released.
Would this cost money? Of course but it may well generate a lot of interest and bring in fresh players too.

Given that WoW rakes in several thousand times as much as CoH, they could spend 1% of thier income on marketing and still spend more than the entire income of NCwest.

You must spend money to make money.
[/ QUOTE ]
Like banks do?
[/ QUOTE ]
No, banks give away money to people who can't afford to pay it back, despite KNOWING that they can't pay it back, then sell these loans to others, who also know that these loans can't be paid back and when it all goes [censored] up the governments put the taxpayer into trillions of pounds/dollars in debt to keep what should be a business that can fail like any other afloat. Oh, not forgetting these places still give their staff bonuses for running a failing business and the CEO's of these banks still have their cushy golden handshakes and huge pensions to boot.

One of the most accurate summations of the whole mess! -applause-
Except for the Bonuses part. Its only the higher up bosses who are corrupt, bureaucratic little vermin, and they are the ones that rip off the huge chunks of cash.
Most people, personally including my Dad, are just everyday people trying to make ends meet at the end of the year, and are suffering horrible because of the Government...
/endrant before I go on more
OT, are there ANY adverts at all for CoX? I've never seen them, anywhere, ever. If this is the case, thats a huge loss. Lost opporunities, lost players, lost notice. Sure, they might save a bit of money now...but thats the whole POINT of an investment, it pays off later!

Well, I did say 'running' not employed by. I fully agree that the general workforce of just about every company, including the one I work for work their guts out every day so the boss of the comapny can get a bigger bonus from his share price incentive. What do most plebs get? A video message saying 'thanks for all your hard work' on the company intranet site where you can see the well concealed but still there smug grin on his face as he knows he's getting a bonus many many times more than your annual wage for your hard graft. Well, that's what WE get, I dunno about everyone else though!

Marketing, generating interest in the game, product placement and all that to generate more players is really fairly moot when the infrastructure seems to be unable to cope with the current load of 400 or so regular players. If the subs increase only to find that they're constantly disconnecting, rubber banding all over the place, then you're going to lose those extra subs fairly quickly.
Sort the connection issues so that your current player base can play without so many problems, then come up with methods to entice more players.

Personally connection issues seem to have improved so far no mega lag or rubber banding or disconnects

Yep 100% agree with that.
Yeah, for the most part connection is alright.
But sometimes it becomes horrible beyond belief.
They do need to try and hammer some sort of stability in. Agreed.

Why would a new box need a load of new content to attract new players surly if there new players all the content is new?
[/ QUOTE ]
Um.. to make it look new?
Yeah, there are loads of new players out there that we all know would love CoH if they tried it, but the big block in the way of that is this game is really very old. Anyone picking up the box in the shop (assuming they can find one) are going to have a lot of preconceptions based on the age of this game.
This game needs to compete with the new stuff out there. It needs a proper relaunch, with some big changes. It needs to not look like a 5 year old game when CO hits.
I'm hoping for a 5th anniversay relaunch with big changes to the game - war walls coming down kinda changes.

Like I said in another thread (because I obviously missed this one)... If Champions Online hits the shops and COX is not there... the choice will be simple for every new super hero fan everywhere around the world.
As of players knowing about this game aside from the 4 months after release and winning awards..
WOW gamers I know.. none... unless I pointed them towards it
Shops... Hardly unless he/she was around in that same shop 5 years ago
Game centers.. not ONE runs COX!!! Not one I know. Most never even heard of it.
Comic fans.. never heard of it...
Think what you will but this is DOOM... And I am no DOOM thread lover. Its just being realistic.
- The Italian Job: The Godfather Returns #1151
Beginner - Encounter a renewed age for the Mook and the Family when Emile Marcone escapes from the Zig!
- Along Came a... Bug!? #528482
Average - A new race of aliens arrives on Earth. And Vanguard has you investigate them!
- The Court of the Blood Countess: The Rise of the Blood Countess #3805
Advanced - Go back in time and witness the birth of a vampire. Follow her to key moments in her life in order to stop her! A story of intrigue, drama and horror! Blood & Violence... not recommend to solo!

but LoTR has boxes out, even the apparently awful AoC has boxes out, I've seen 'em! So why no CoX, which is arguably still a damned good MMO
[/ QUOTE ]
Lotro has boxes out because it launched a new paid expansion not so long ago, and on the back of that it shifts fresh boxes of original product. Exactly the same thing for WoW. AoC has boxes out because it isn't all that old and the initial print run hasn't yet sold out.
CoH is a five year old game.
Unless they're planning some kind of relaunch with a metric tonne of new stuff in there to attract new players, you are not going to see a new box on the shelves this side of the Atlantic; it would be a monumental waste of money.

Well there is the impending I14 Mission Architect coming, a fairly unique new feature which should result in a lot of new content. Sure it's reusing old assets, but hopefully it'll result in some unique and fun new content.
