Except for Freedumb.

It never ceases to amaze me how people can judge an entire server population on the actions of a small minority. I'm sure they're are quite a few dedicated and intelligent players on Freedom.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm sure there are too. They tend to get drowned out in all the white noise though.

Seriously. Try it and see.

Although admittedly there is the fact that when it's 9:00pm over here (my logging on time) it's just after school over there.

I would really like to log on and play but if theres even a remote chance that thing are gonna go belly up then I'd rather not.

It weird getting attached to a bunch of pixels on a screen but then again I tend to get attached to everyone of my pen and paper rpg characters (when I ain't DMing, which is rare).

BTW would anyone be interested in an PBEM version of COX ?

[/ QUOTE ]

It is weird but yes I have grown attached to these pixels on my screen. And expecting the whole thing to go belly up made me lose incentive to go out there and try to get that badge or be happy with a purple. We need news.

Same here; while playing an MMOG's at all's a pointless activity at the end of the day it, does seem especially futile to try and level a toon if your entire account might vanish overnight.

NCsofts 2008 Q4 earnings are up...

Sales by region (yearly) 2008: COX 6%

Sales by region 2008 Q4: NCsoft Europe 3%

Sales by games (worldwide) 2008 Q4: COX 7%

The operating metrics for COX don't look good either, it shows a steady decrease in subscibers from June 2007 to december 2008, from 26,669 active worldwide accounts to 13,823

If anyone would like to see the 2008 Q4 report you can get it here

Edit: sorry didn't see that FFM had already said about this...

I dunno, play for fun, not levels:

Part of the fun's in the levelling for me; picking up new powers and adding enhancements to existing ones makes for variety. I wouldn't have spent the last several years playing if the only option was to grind unprogressable toons all the time.

The truth of the matter is that Issue 13 had a sustained positive effect on server populations and subs.

That's not subscribers. It's highest concurrent users, i.e. people logged on at the same time.

Well unless your suggesting they have taken every CoX player classified as Dumb by some peoples obvious judgements and placed them in Freedom and then put a bar on it too all intelligent people. Then yes i am.

The above is only my opinion, please don't hate me for it
SG: Suicidal Maniacs @Aurealis
GhostRaptor: Server populations have been trending upwards since Issue 13 release. There are no current plans for any server mergers and we're looking forward to Issue 14 and the rest of the year.

So cocking up the PvP aspect of the game seemed to put a bigger dent in the game than NCSoft were/are prepared to admit.

No surprise there then.

a few (dozen) pages ago someone (FFM?) v posted that already. Few (dozen) pages later someone've read exactly the opposite trend from the same data.

And, GR might still be right, - number of subscribers might be rising atm, despite falling through most of 2008.

By that he means that after Issue 13s introduction subscribers went up and continue to do so, there was a 400 concurrent user increase from September to December but probably not the big hit that you usually see when an Issue is released.

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually, I suspect that there WAS the usual new issue spike in players, but it was offset by a whole bunch of people leaving over the PvP debacle.

Possibly not as big a spike as we'd normally get, as i13 was content light, but there was almost certainly a spike, and it's almost certainly been offset by a least SOME amount; otherwise there'd be more than 380 concurrent logins than the previous quarter with NO issue release.

There always seems to be an inter-issue lull in active subscribers. Trouble is, there was a massive gap between I12 and I13, while I13 didn't really bring much to the table. That's the cause for any dip in active players, I can't believe that PvP changes are responsible. We're all waiting for the Architect and beyond.

Necrobond - 50 BS/Inv Scrapper made in I1
Rickar - 50 Bots/FF Mastermind
Anti-Muon - 42 Warshade
Ivory Sicarius - 45 Crab Spider

I don't get this.

For a start I don't think it's that easy to distinguish a PVP player from a PVE player in this game, and PVP is a relatively small part of the game. I can't see how changes in PVP had such a massive impact.

People ON Freedumb call it Freedumb.

Seriously. Try going to Altas / Mercy at around 9:00pm GMT, join a few PuGs and then come back and tell us what you think.

Of course there's intelligent and helpful people on it. There's also, thanks to the huge numbers of people who play it, more broadcast spam, lolz and Crash Car PuGs on it too.

Of course the more sensible ones tend to be off in instances leaving Atlas and Mercy at the mercy of the broadcast spammers.

Issue 13 numbers are not really reflected in the Q4 report from last year. I13 was released less than a month to go in that quarter, and that being a month in which there's major holidays happening. You guys get to see numbers for a quarterly block. I get to see daily and weekly numbers (well, did). Issue 13 was (and still is) a positive influence on CoH numbers.

What really interested me about the financial highlights were the revenue projections. Now unless I'm reading it wrong the revenue for CoX in 2008 was 23,227m Won but the projections for 2009 fall drastically to 15,000m Won. I wonder what their analysts know that we dont.

I actually blame issue 9 for the start of the problems, COX went from a skill based game to a fat lootz game.

Any game where I could shoot Ian Beale in the face is a winner for me. Of course that goes for Gail Plait too.

Some sort of DC vs Marvel Soaps crossover PvP seems to be in order.

Issue 9 was actually the issue that turned things around, numbers wise.

Numbers increased steadily from issue 1-3, went down for issue 5-7, picked up a little with 8, then quite a lot with 9. they remained roughly trending slightly upwards until the dip in the long time gap betwen 12 and 13.

I really should do something about this signature.
