Wheres the WOW factor?
Yes, once they get past level 24.
The first 24 levels are a bit of a slog until you get to specialise apparently.
Well, for me I liked the outfit but indeed, no transforming or features that distinguish them much from other villains.
I didn't find the way to 24 really sloggish as a soldier. I found that after 24 I expected maybe a bit too much from the crabbackpack
Although transforming Kheldians can get old pretty fast too

I'm not good at giving advice, can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?
@Lyrik
Yep I did, wellmostly cause I always wanted to play one

I gave up mine at 16, couldnt be a..ed to continue. That mistress set aint nothing more then a SR-claw scrapper with a few psi tricks, soldier wasnt really 'fun' either.
Kheldians are different, 3 forms to choose from, dozen ways to play it. And the first time you cast dwarf is really a WoW thingie, unlike some crab-thingies on your back.
Added, even on US i team alot, i basicly never see them.

Yep - VEAT career track powers rock, particularly NightWidows. I only lost interest in my VEATs at 39, when the Grandville Grind gets underway
Is it time for the dance of joy yet?

The VEATs are by far may favorate AT villain side, and are much more fun than keldians.
I really should do something about this signature.
I was happy enough with my slightly squishy first two soldiers up till 24, and then they both exploded into killing machines in there own right.
My crab is now lvl 41, and is dangerous as hell. Five pets, three of them near perma, and a whole mess of AoE attacks.
My Bane is like a slightly tougher stalker with a really tasty debuff and a ranged attack thrown in, and hes only lvl 28.
Widows were horrible to get to 24. Mine was quite a torturous process, but at 24 now, and I can say, IMO, it was worth it. Shes either a stabhappy CQB nightmare (Nightwidow build) or a shooty and buffy lock-down specialist (fortunata)
The thing to remember is that, although NWs get touted as solo monsters, VEATs are the best of the best in groups. If you ever have the joy of seeing an 8-man VEAT team wading through a sea of purple conning foes without breaking a sweat, you'll see what I mean
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

I got my widow up to 24 when they were first released by teaming with loads of other VEATS (and man they are awesome wen teaming with each other). However, I somehow lost interest when it came time to respec! Because I could choose all these new powers that I had no idea about it somehow felt like I didn't know the character any more and so lost the connection I like to have when playing.

i felt exactly the same. all that effort going into playing what was essentially a sub-par scrapper whom i'd begun to like, then suddenly all your past choices are meaningless, and you have a choice of two new characters to play. didn't like it myself

I think the solution to that is to know what you are aiming for. I had already planned out my build for level 24, so as soon as I hit that level I could become the character I had always ben aiming for.
Alterantively, you could always just reselect the powers you had previously.

Hilariously enough Widows suck horribly before 24. I specced into Fortunata at 24, which was 'meh, okay' for a while. Got a little bored with it by the 30s. Remembering fully well the horrible gimplet that she was as a Blood Widow, I gritted my teeth and made a second build as a Night Widow.
And...
Holy hell. Honestly, my logical senses fail at this. Sure, Mind Link helps a bunch, but it's not always on. Crits are handy but few and far between, only happening from a Hidden status. The Night Widow only gets a few extra attacks from her primary.
Yet somehow she started doing INSANE single target damage and having pretty sweet survivability against even-conning mobs. Of course, since I'm usually fighting purples, this means it could be better, but it gets the job done. I have a gaping gap in my attack chain due to the still-bad recharge times on Widow attacks, but I'll either get Hasten or tweak my slotting at higher levels, which should fix it. She's still very endurance-hungry (it's the attacks, not the toggles), but oh man does she rip things apart.
And I have no idea how. It's just a widow with a few extra tricks, no?
Of course, my Crab Spider was fun from level 1 to 50. 1 to 23 it's a Blaster with slightly less damage but tons more utility and survivability. 24 and up it's a walking tank of a destruction machine that keeps getting more and more uber-fun tricks as he gains levels. 6 pets, a taunting soft nuke/control temporary pet, loads of AoE... I love my Crab so much.
Tried Bane for build 2, felt disappointed.

i'm sure you're right, and i expect i'll re-visit the AT, but i just felt dissapointed by it. i'm fully aware that it's probably my failing, but i never plan my builds

There isnt a specific NEED or RULE that means you have to take powers from the two trees. People tend to for added survivability is all.
For example, my latests (third) Soldier is using only Wolf Spider attacks, with the add in of Build up and Placate at later levels. However, at 24, im not changing his build AT ALL from what it was pre-24. I WILL add in new powers as they pop up, but the joy of the VEATs is freedom. For example, I havent tried it, but you can make a really stabby Fortunata, should the mood take you. Something of a Blappoller, with stealth and team buffs actually sounds quite tasty...must...not...make more alts! >.<

My widow is my favorite villian class i play. Enjoy the damage she can dish out. and she looks the part as well, reminds me a little of my Witch elf in WAR.
My soilder on other hand i dont like that much, maybe as i was to much concentrating on modeling them on huntsman, and speced them as such. If i respec them mace i bet they are a much better class to play.
@Snow.
Defiant: Snow + many other alts

Im not sure what you were expecting from the Villain Epics, the Kheldians are alien race and Arachnos Soldiers/Widows are more jst humans so the idea of having some kind of form change would be stupid.
I am glad they steered well clear of Anything resembling the Hero epics because the devs would have been accused of giving a half hearted attempt at villains epic types by jst making a Villain version of the Kheldians.
I dont think they could win no matter what they did choose for Epic types, because there will always be ppl who dont like things about the game. But there are also alot of pppl who DO like them so you jst gotta live with it .. roll another toon.

Gice into your addiction Alpha the world will be a better place with a stabby Fortunata in it
I have enjoyed the game play on my soldier but that's after 3 goes and deciding I'm going to have to compromise on the costume options
but I've taken a slightly unusual route of taking him through to 50 as a bog-standard soldier: Just a guy with a gun and some gadgets. He's 38 now and I'm having a lot of fun, laying down impressive amounts of firepower and seems to be having a pretty good time.
When in a good team he generates a veritable sea of orange numbers which is quite a sight to behold

Dead right. Plain soldiers, with a few Bane add ons for survivability, are actually really hitty.
Web nade + venom nade + heavy burst + frag = a really nasty combo, especially if used with stacked VEAT auras.

By the way. I actually quite like my Widow. She is quite a nice killing machine and I rather like the cone spike blast. It is just that I just don't get the sense of awesomeness that I did with Kheldians.
Meh, there are lots of powers in the game which have awsome FX, it's not confined to keldians.
Epic AT, in this case, doesn't mean "looks awsome" it means "more complex options".
I really should do something about this signature.
the wow factor is when you hand entire purple mobs their backsides on a silver platter. With 8 mini-nukes.
Tell me THAT doesnt seem awesome They might look plain, but its the horrendous ammount of damage that counts ^^

I have 5 other characters that can do the exact same.
But, aside, it might be my overal dislike of CoV, the dull content (i dont do story stuff), repetative mobs valore, only MM could interest me. (maybe domi, but my 34 couldnt catch em).

Out of all the end level AT's, my widow is the only one i could stomach to get past lev24 for the simple reason that she is a killing machine both solo and teamed.
Have lost a bit of interest in her at moment due to the wonderfull grind that is lev 40 to 50 in grandville ... but she is still on target to be my quickest to 50.
Soldiers are imo suited to certain types of gameplay and in this case they dont suit mine same as kheldians.
Well I finally managed to play a villain to level 50. When I hit it I decided to fire up a widow and see what they played like. Frankly I was disappointed. So I started a soldier. Again meh. Where is the WOW in VEATs? They seem very lacklustre. At level 6 my HEAT could transform into a new entity. I can still remember going squid and someone saying "wth is that?" in a team. At level 6 my widow got another pointy attack.
Do people ever look at a widow or soldier in game and say "wow I can't wait to get one of them"?
