Who leaves the profanity filter on?
Before they set that option as being account wide, it was create character, options screen, filter off, logging on.
If I know theres no chance of the daughter sneaking a peek while I'll try to level 1 handed (roll on Feb). I will turn it off.
People swear, its apart of life but since shes only 11, I'd rather she doesn't have it rammed down her throat (now if only I could do something about the chavs at her school).
I mean if anyone got jumped in real life, the chances are they are not going be saying "oh deary me, I seem to be getting attacked by some toerags", no its going to be strong and loud and graphic enough to make a navvy blush.
I am glad the filter is there though, and tbh I do tend to forget about it but I think that says more about the playerbase in CoX than anything else.
It simply isn't full of foul mouthed idiots that must work out how to you all the names under the sun while circumventing the chat filter.

Though with the filter turned on it looks like the game is full of potty mouths sometimes. It's ridiculously stringent in what it filters. Nothing we can do about that though.

Account wide...? I have had to set it for every character everytime I start a new one.
Nah, shutting it down was always part of my initial char setup, tis good to hear that its now account wide though, will save a few secs before pummeling mobs.
I don't bother to turn it off. With that cencors some talks give way to a guessing mini game.

It's supposed to be account wide, And it mostly works for me but occasionally I have to switch it off on a new toon aswell.

Mine has always been off from the get go.
Having said that, I don't curse. I use creative ways of applying carrot related expressions mixed with one "Oh, poppycock!", "Oh my stars and garters!", "Oopsie daisies!", "Darn!", "Dagnabbit!", "Pish-Posh and balderdash!" and so on, here and there. I mean, who hasn't read one of my "Holy Candied Carrots!" exclamations when I get over excited? Or a "Mother of All that we Rabbits hold as sacred! It's a giant purple one!"
Honestly, I do.

I mostly keep it on unless someone's trying to tell me something not offensive that's blocked by the filter, and really, the filter's kinda stupid, it blocks out "poop".
Why? I don't want to fall to a dirty level where I swear all the time, and I don't want to encourage it either. Sure, in RP, I might use it once or twice, but my character's aren't Mr. T-like people.
None of my characters swear much, except when distinctly ticked off, but the filter is so bad, it has to be turned off.

No, it doesn't like gods. Or, more precisely, it doesn't like the phrase 'Oh God!' which actually comes out looking worse when it appears on screen as 'Oh #?@&*!'. I mean that could be something much worse.

Always off, off from the get go. Unless I forget to turn it off, but I'm quickly reminded by "#@!%£!"

Always thought that a simple typo on phrases such as Good Luck could look bad as well. Before I started turning the filter off I realised how often I used to mistype Good...
Though the one that irritates me the most must be screw - after having a problem with a shelf on one occasion and some sentences being censored to look decidedly dodgy... hell - screws in carpentry have been around a heck of a lot longer than the word's been used as a (relatively harmless) euphemism...

Yeah, I've done that before too - like saying someone was providing "good healing", or even something is a "good idea"

I resent that - many villains pride themselves on their eloquence and monologuing skills, while the new black leather brigade of 90s heroes swing more Fs than a Crackerville, AL grade school...
Is it time for the dance of joy yet?

They've nerfed Kung Fu with a sewar filter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I never have it on. I'm not one to be offended by language of any sort, more the sentiment behind that language. That's what can be truly offensive and it can't be dealt with by swear filters unfortunately.
<QR> I turn it off, and saved the option setting to default for every new char so I don't have to keep turning it off. Before I found out about the filter, I was confused as to why there were so many people telling me about their £$%&*/Regen Scrappers.
Apart from me until a week ago of course. I didn't even know you could turn the damnable in-game filter off until Blue Rabbit referred to me as being of the female persuasion and directed me to deal with it. Previously I just thought he was really good at guessing when I said his Widow looked like a big purple....
So anyway, I just called a guy a 'tiny God' in Steel Canyon (I didn't know about the /sync command either) and he wasn't insulted. Obviously he must have his filter off because it would have looked like I called him a 'tiny %&£$%*' thanks to the filter which doesn't seem to like Christian belief structures. Thank God (see, I can now) GR dealt with that for the forums when he arrived.
So how many of you actually remove it when playing in-game?
