The toughest toons to play?

I've seen a couple of posts recently about how difficult this AT is or that combination of powers sets can be

Personally I've never got on with HEATs, Warshades and PBs... I can't get a feel for them but I've nver found a toon that's "unplayable" so I'm wondering what toons people feel is very difficult and why.

The HEATS are well known as being two of the most difficult AT's to play. So difficult, in fact, that most people just give up and declare them "rubbish" or "broken". Of course, the simple truth is that they're neither of those things. They're just... Different.

I don't think any char is tough to play, more a preference of the player.

I don't play defenders or tankers mostly, not because i think they're hard to play, but they don't appeal that much to me. The defenders i have are trick arrows and radiation, one being lvl 47 the other 1. The only tanker i have is level 8.

Kheldians aren't tough either, they're just diffrent. I personally don't have any atm, cause i simply don't like how they look. If i could select a cossie for nova and dark form, and/or choose to toggle off the glowy eyes, i would probably play one.

So to bottomline it. Nothing is tough to play, just some sets are more or less fun than others. And thats entirely up to the player itself to decide on.

As I’ve mentioned a few times, I do find my sonic/sonic defender difficult to play. This is not because she’s a poor AT, just very unfulfilling.

About half of her attack powers are multiple targeted ones which means she can draw agro very easily and if she does a quick slap from a level one Hellion and she’s down. Add to this the primary set which, while it can be very effective (I think), doesn’t feel like it’s doing anything, and when I play her I feel like I’m stood around not doing a great deal.

This is obviously all about how I feel, rather than how the team feel about me (I’m as a player they find me really annoying ) and maybe things would be better if I got her up a few levels (she’s about level 25 at the moment and has been for two and a half years), but I find it much better to play a healer or a scrapper where I can see I’m having some effect.

The real shame is that’s she’s my favourite character.

Or more succinctly, what Sapphy said.

/Regen Scrappers are massively difficult to play. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone other than a total masochist.
DB/WP is way too hard as well.

Seriously, hardest thing I tried was Warshade. As FFM said, it was a case of it being so annoying to do anything with that I gave up before I even got to level 6 and the first shape change.

Peacebringers, however, I have no real problem with for the little time I've played them.

My first toon was the toughest to play (in fact I nearly gave up on the game). Stalag-Might a stone/stone tank I deleted him at lvl 12, though when I look back it wasn’t the games fault, I had upped the rep at lvl 6 to Invincible not realizing the consequences.

Hard to play? Hmmm... End issues (like most tankers and scrappers have early levels) make a character boring/hard to play for me.

Also other than my concept heroine i find Illusion hard to level because it is mostly boring till you get PA. Thanks to my Kin secondary i can find somethings to do instead of controlling.

Also team dependent heroes (FF defenders and others) hard to play for me too because while playing one i don't feel that heroic at all as they can't solo well.

In the end, all sets and ATs have ups and downs, i play what i please. So no hard to play hero for me at all.

What's so hard about /Regen scrapper exactly?

The lack of sarcasm that goes with it?

My first character was an energy blaster.
After that, everything is hard to play because it takes forever to kill something.

(Just kidding, for if it was not evident enough)
EDIT: mispellings

At a guess I would say Blasters are probably the hardest to get the most potential out of because of the need to be a semi-Blapper to take advantage of your secondary.

Was a bit of a giveaway. I'd suggest looking at posts as a whole, rather than just picking out the bits you like.

The first character I ever created was a Katana/Dark Armour Scrapper and even at level 36, he still has endurance issues as the quick recharge of Katana makes you spam powers and the toggles of DA can leave you drained even if you are savvy enough to know which ones to turn on and which to leave off. With no Recovery powers other than Stamina, it can be a struggle when compared to other Scrapper combinations.

I have however recently gone back to him and with some +rec set bonuses, I've at least made him playable again. It's a very fun combination but I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner.

I find any alt that requires a semblance of delicacy and tact tough to play. I have a bad habit of wading in regardless which on a lot of AT's is not a wise idea! I blame the fact that my first alt was a Tanker

I feel a theme developing here. I don’t have many characters, but already I can tick a few of them off:

Sonic/Sonic Defender – Yep, got one of those.

Energy/Energy Blaster – My first character. Took me over two years to level (and was the only character I was playing).

Dark/Dark Scrapper – Final got him to level fifty the other month (yay, my second) and he still has endurance problems.

Should I just list my other characters to help people avoid those set combo’s?

@ Liegh perhaps we should get together as I have a Sonic/Sonic about the same level and finding the same things

And you think two Sonics together would be a good idea? I’ll let you know when I’m next on and we can have a laugh - one hit each and run for the door, and back in five minutes once we've rested.

I'd say it depends on the person playing the toon. I don't get on with tanks or warshades at all so to me they're the hardest to play. I love blasters and find them easy to play yet there are some (strange) people out there that don't.

i would say anything/dark armour tbh. the secondary alone makes a toon hard to play-not [censored] just different and harder

My empath, staying awake in a decent team is really challenging.

Shadowplay - Scrapper DM/DA SL 50
Doctor Storm- Brute SS/Elec SL 50
"speed boosts someone in the face" - Cognito

For me : anything on the blue side and anything that uses ranged powers. I prefer a combination of Sneaky McBastard and up 'n personal.

Well my Tank is a pure DA lol - with Tough and Weave - 11 toggles, but no end issues at all due to not attacking and slotted end redux - and he's a tough little cookie - great def+res

I don't know where this reputation for being difficult came from to be honest. Pretty easy if you ask me, at least Warshades are, and PBs don't seem any harder (if anything they seem less complicated).

My WS dies a fair bit (mainly due to wanting to stay in double-mired Squid form for one blast too many) but levels much, much faster than my Grav/TA ever did.

In terms of grindyness, late-blooming and painful to solo, especially at lower levels my Grav/TA was the toughest to stick with. Worth it post 26 though, every power from 26 onwards is great.

Although the sort of toons I've given up on are Scrappers and Tanks. I dislike wasting half my power choices on boring shieldy things and pressing 1-2-3 over and over again until something falls over.
