  1. Launching the game works, but logging on doesn't.
    Seems to me there is something wierd with the authentication server.

    Code:
    Auth:Connecting to 64.25.36.4:2106 (TCP)... ok                        (21.01)
    Auth:Waiting for protocol version... failed (45.00)
    I'm going to try launching the .exe directly and see what happens...

    Great, I get an error-message saying that I can't run the exe directly and must use the launcher. wtf?

    //cx

    Solved! Removing
    Code:
    -auth 64.25.36.4
    from the command solved the problem!
  2. The new perl-script works like a charm.
    If only the servers were up, or am I missing something?

    //CX
  3. yeah, it feels great being able to play again.

    Can't really tell if it's slows down, but I have noticed that there's less and less RAM memory available for each time i launch the game through the perl script.
    Might be something to take a look at?

    //CX
  4. the new script sorted the patching issue, but it wouldn't start the game i get
    Code:
    error parsing command argument "renderthread 0 project eucoh"
    But, running ~./wine cityofheroes.exe -renderthread 0 -project eucoh loads the game and I CAN PLAY!!

    btw tex, i got the latest catalyst drivers for linux installed

    edit : adding -auth 64.25.36.4 to the script gets the game up and running.

That makes the comment on 343 and that command look like this (with the change underlined and emboldened):
    Code:
    	# Unpack the patch
    	system("$unrar_program xv $file") || die "Unable to decompress patch $file\n";
    Tried editing the script per your suggestion, it halts on the unrar command due to the faulty argument.
    I've tried adding -v instead, no luck. All that gives me is the same result as with the unmodified script. No verbose readout.

    removing the else die statement got me this:
    Code:
    All OK
    xdelta: usage: xdelta patch patchfile [fromfile [tofile]]
    md5sum: ~/.wine/drive_c/Program: No such file or directory
    md5sum: Files/City: No such file or directory
    md5sum: of: No such file or directory
    md5sum: Heroes/piggs/player.pigg.patched: No such file or directory
    Patching file piggs/player.pigg failed.
    seems to me like there is some kind of problem with the paths to the directories?

    //cx - guinea pig.
  6. got unrar 3.90 beta and xdelta 1.1.3, those two are the newest available in the ubuntu 10.04 repos.

  7. D'oh! Ohwell, I'm not used to perl-scripts. You learn something new every day

    Code:
    x@x:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/City of Heroes$ perl cohlaunch.pl -live -project eucoh -renderthread 0
    Can't locate XML/Simple.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /etc/perl /usr/local/lib/perl/5.10.1 /usr/local/share/perl/5.10.1 /usr/lib/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/perl/5.10 /usr/share/perl/5.10 /usr/local/lib/site_perl .) at cohlaunch.pl line 18.
    BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at cohlaunch.pl line 18.
    seems like i forgot to add the xml.simple dependency. double d'oh.

    update:
    script working fine! it connected and started downloading/patching the game and then this happened
    Code:
    Unable to decompress patch CityOfHeroes_Main_2060.201107262317.0.0To2060.201108050059.1.0.ncpatch
    cx - one step closer
  8. Right, fiddling with the perl-script since i don't know how to point the ULL to use the internal updater.

    Quote:
    The perl script itself was all I needed to launch the game for playing -- just run it as a shell command and let it go: " ./cohlaunch.pl -renderthread 0 "
    I tried running "sh cohlaunch.pl -renderthread 0 -project eucoh" in a terminal, this is what i got :
    Code:
    cohlaunch.pl: 16: use: not found
    cohlaunch.pl: 17: use: not found
    cohlaunch.pl: 18: use: not found
    cohlaunch.pl: 19: use: not found
    cohlaunch.pl: 20: use: not found
    cohlaunch.pl: 22: my: not found
    cohlaunch.pl: 23: my: not found
    cohlaunch.pl: 25: my: not found
    cohlaunch.pl: 26: my: not found
    cohlaunch.pl: 27: my: not found
    cohlaunch.pl: 28: my: not found
    cohlaunch.pl: 30: my: not found
    cohlaunch.pl: 32: Syntax error: "(" unexpected
    I made sure to install the packages required by the script, so i am currently at a loss.
    Any ideas?

    //cx - who wants his game!
  9. ok. as things are now, ULL will launch the old launcher, but by running
    Code:
    wine cityofheroes.exe -renderthrad 0 -project eucoh
    in a terminal lets me log onto the game and connect to the servers.
    didn't ncsoft patch the game on the 4th or am i missing something else?

    //cx
  10. i copied the gamelist.xml you put on pastebin and added -project eucoh to the exearguments. like this:
    Code:
    <Game>
        <Id>CityOfHeroes</Id>
        <Name>City of Heroes/Villains</Name>
        <Exe>cityofheroes.exe</Exe>
        <ExeArgs>-project eucoh -renderthread 0</ExeArgs>
        <LocalVersionFile>version.ini</LocalVersionFile>
        <LocalVersionExe>false</LocalVersionExe>
        <Server>http://cohlive.patcher.ncsoft.com/CityOfHeroes/Main</Server>
        <ProdName>CityOfHeroes</ProdName>
        <SubProdName>Main</SubProdName>
        <SelfPatch>false</SelfPatch>
        <SelfRepair>false</SelfRepair>
      </Game>
    how do i tell ull to use the internal updater?

    //cx?
  11. Cheers Katie_v.

    I've compiled the ULL and edited the gamelist.xml to point to the new server, it still launches the old launcher/patcher though.
    Any ideas?

    Ah, my mistake then

    99$ is still way over budget, especially if you consider that I won't be using it on a daily basis...and OEM...yuck. I don't buy retail systems I put them together myself from separate parts.
    I'm hoping that grub will kindly ignore the disk windows will reside on and let me choose which one to boot from via a pop-up menu from BIOS.

    //CX - Boldly going to a place he hasn't visited in years. Windows.
  14. @texas, sorry mate, was going to write something directed at you but my better judgement kicked in.

    @v-tron, yeah, i can use an old 40gig harddrive. i might even have one laying around somewhere. Still gotta jum through those hoops though. it's an old ide drive and my mobo doesn't come with that. :|
    might have an old ide-sata adapter somewhere. it's a bodge, but it could work.

    as for gaming on linux, linux's been my main os for the past 5-6 years or so, all my data is stored on ext3/4 filesystems which to my knowledge windows can't read.
    going from an 'all-included' os which comes with firewalls, utility programs et.c. allready installed and switching to an os that might (my windows skills are a bit outdated) need third-part software just to behave properly is a major pain.
    then there's the money issue, a full version of win7 home premium costs about 240$, my time however, is free
    gaming isn't that hard on linux either, CoX worked beautifully through wine with the old launcher.
    some games might even perform better on linux/wine then in a windows enviroment.

    but i am ranting and taking focus from the main purpouse with je sais how-to.

  15. @memphis bill & texas justice,

    why i would need 64-bit ultimate? i'd like to have a system with as few locked-down settings as possible. as for the drive, my new mobo doesn't come with a pata-connector and ide drives are hard to come by these days.
  16. Thanks for taking your time Je Saist, I'll try and see fi this works on Ubuntu aswell.
    If not, I'm gonna try and get a -refund- from ncsoft. I've payed in advance for 6 more months of gaming (yeah, i like CoX that much) and if that doesn't work I guess I'll have to find something else to play and -pay- for.

    Windows is not an option atm, unless someone sponsors me with a win7 ultimate 64-bit and a 250gb+ sataII drive.

  18. Amen, FFM. I tend to stay away from PD for the very same reasons, namely tool and not my kind of arpees.

    And yeah, I want to be able to visually ignore those who i have put on my ignore-list.

  19. Thanks Wildcat!

    I actually solved it by digging out my Good vs. Evil edition DVD and installing the game that way.

  20. Hey.

    I've recently begun to experiencing this very same problem, the updater downloads the files just fine, but runs into a loop when trying to patch the geom.pigg.

    The game worked fine friday evening, i let the computer sit overnight and when i tried to fire it up saturday morning, the game refused to work.

    fine, I thought, i'll just reinstall it then. Well, you know how that turned out.

    i tried fixing the problem by double the middle value in /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_wmem to no avail.

    I'm running Ubuntu 10.04lts amd64 on a quad core amd 955 black edition, msi mobo, 4gb ram and dual ati 5770's in crossfire mode.

    any suggestions would be helpful and greatly appreciated.

    Cheers!

  21. "What is the catch?"

    "I do not belive you are willing to offer the Superadine nor these Bodyguards to us for free."

    Cx turned to the two women "And I for one do agree with the good doctor, stop squabbling and get back in the game."
  22. "Point taken, Dr Mechano", cx answered in his flat, monotone voice.

    "My only question is this; an alliance as in a 'non-agression pact' or as in 'we will divide and conquer the world'?" Cx arched an eyebrow at the scientist. The gesture only exaggerated the scarring of his face.
  23. Cx turned to Will "Hmm. He _could_ be an asset to us, but I can not honestly say that I appreciate his..luggage."

    He turned to Ed. "Tell me why the Corporation should offer you...sanctuary and not leave you out in the cold?"
