Having played both the free and paid for versions, I cannot say I am all that surprised... never saw such a shallow game before.
Posting this while I still have game time running out.
Really sorry to hear this, the various RL and ingame events that have been organised by the again various NCSoft staff have been some of the best times I've had in this game and the extended community. My one regret is not having recorded Bridger once saying "Doooooom" and waving his hand at a Scottish player meet a few years ago and turning it into an avatar, but that's just amusement on the side 
Hope things turn out for the best in the end guys.
Sorry to hear, hope all goes well for you and the other NC members whom have looked after us over the years.

Just wanted to add my condolences to those who're facing uncertain (or certain, but difficult) times ahead.
I guess it's never easy getting the proverbial spanish archer (nor, as a former employer myself) having to tell somebody their services are no longer required, but bodies are a businesses most expensive (and most valuable) resource and with news of credit crunches, recessions and economic depression abounding I can totally see why NCSoft as a body have looked to drive cost out of their businesses.
Yes it's tough on those concerned but in all my dealings with people from here I've nothing but the utmost respect for them personally and professionally and I'm pretty sure none of them will have any trouble getting a new gig. For them it may be considered a chance to find a new opportunity and perhaps prosper

As many many others have said that truely sucks and my deepest sympathies go out to all who are affected .
Hopefully this just be a blip on the grand scheme of things and you all go on to find bigger and better things.

I'm decidedly unwell today so I'll keep this short and sweet - it was great to meet you at Continuum 2006, nice to chat with someone with true insight into the MMO world. I never really had any contact with either Rockjaw nor Aero. Barely any rednames in fact (Midoh excluded).
Still, even I know that the CC's we had here, regardless of who they are/were, still put more than a solid worker's rating effort into this community.
When 60% of Vivendi Universal Games Dublin was made redundant, we had many concerns but everyone found much better (and for some, more fun) jobs.
I'm sure the ex-NCE lads will find something much, much better and only retain the good memories from their time in Brighton.

While I can't go into details heavily, I wanted to address a few points to ease any concerns you may have about City of Heroes, and specifically CoH in Europe.
I'll start by linking to Lighthouse's post with regards the status of NCNC and CoH. In summary, City of Heroes is not directly affected. Development continues, and the expansion of the NCNC team continues. CoH in Europe will also continue as it has previously.
The only thing that might change is that there is a possibility that Kerensky may be leaving us. I stress possibility, because it is not decided yet. The community team will still be here, doing all the things we've always done: attending shows, supporting your player events, subduing naughty posts, flying over Paragon City and the Rogue Isles spying on what you're all up to and more.

I wish to those that are forced to leave, to find new jobs without much hassle and those new jobs to be so good, that will not mind them leaving (although it will mind us, as the empty space left behind will be unbearable).
