  1. GR, in case you're not around to read stuff later - thanks for doing a good job well. :-)

All the best for your future, I hope you don't have much trouble picking up a new job somewhere.
  2. Continuing the Shadow Shard TF's on Saturday evening, I'll be running Justin Augustine at 8pm on 17th Jan in my usual style (i.e. 2-3 minute pauses between missions as I like to read the story!).

39 months! Thirty nine! Carnal Sin has hit level 50, I'm making a Kheldian so I can give up on it before even reaching level 12, declaring them rubbish and making threads in the Kheldian forum about how bad they are! WOOOO!

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Worse than me!!! Well done!
  6. Thanks to all who attended - I'll be running Sara Moore this coming weekend at the same time - see other thread.
  7. Currently it's just Quaterfield. Of course we could decide to continue with the others if we're enjoying ourselves - I've not done any of them and would like to do so.
  8. 1. @Estarriol2/?
    2. @Scarlet Shocker/Scarlet Shocker (Blaster)
    3. @-Shockwave/?
    4. @Biggie/?
    5. @ElectroKitty/?

    7.
    8.

^^ Most of these are confirmed now.
  9. OK, I'm going to kick this off at 8pm this Saturday and keep going from 8pm every evening until we complete, anticipating 3-4 evenings depending on how long people want to stay up to on Saturday (i.e. I can do until at least 1am and probably later on Saturday).

Please gather by Dr Quaterfield at 7.45 this Saturday evening (3rd January).

More provisional interest from Defiant Events members:-

    1. @Estarriol2/?
    2. @Scarlet Shocker/Scarlet Shocker (Blaster)
    3. @Uther Dracus/Uther Dracus (Scrapper)
    4. @-Shockwave/?
    5. @Biggie/?
    6. @ElectroKitty/?

    8.

Please note that not many of these are confirmed so I'm expecting dropouts, please post here if you're interested.
  10. OK - we may be looking at this Saturday evening to kick off, starting with a longer session and continuing on Sunday evening.

  11. I'm considering running a Dr Quaterfield Task Force across multiple consecutive evenings, probably 2-3 hours per evening. I've not played it before so am not interested in cutting corners even though I know it is very long.

Is anyone else seriously interested in this? I'm looking for a reasonable level of commitment here - no time wasters please (probably quite a good pun for this TF).

Compulsive collection is something I don't empathise with really, but it's hardly uncommon. Look at stamp collecting, or coins. Or even the tendency people have to want to play every class in an MMO...

    [/ QUOTE ]

But playing every class in an MMO is actually a different experience (in a good MMO like this one) whereas meticulously collecting badges that you make near-meaningless by the very act just seems inherently self-destructive.

I know, I'm missing the point somehow... and I don't want to discuss any further because I don't actually want to offend anyone. I just don't think anyone has the slightest leg to stand on when complaining that badges aren't completely effortless to get - surely the effort is the fun of it, and if they're trivial to get your collecting means nothing?

Perhaps this is a generational thing, I'm no spring chicken.

Unless you keep them logged on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, they *will* get them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

GR... how can I put this?

There is no point in using reason in a discussion like this. People do not want to hear actual figures, they want to complain that they have to not play their character in order to get something without any effort.

If you think about it in those terms, you'll soon realise that actually explaining this is a waste of your valuable time. Go out, drink, play pool so Shadowe can spy on you and report back to us.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    The truth, she is spoken.

I'm constantly amazed that anyone complains about not being able to get every single badge on their character, when the system was intended to - and would work best as - a way of differentiating your character from others. If lots of people have all of them, who cares?
  14. I still think the preponderance of S/L resists in the high level game makes AR underperform a little, with the redraw activation penalty being harsher than warranted for the 5% accuracy bonus of AR. Specifically it has an obvious thematic synergy with Devices, and yet weapon redraw penalises this set to the point where useful bread-and-butter powers (e.g. Web Grenade, Smoke Grenade, Caltrops) become a pain to use due to the redraw they cause. To fix it I suggest:-

Web Grenade - now launches out of the barrel of the AR (i.e. no weapon redraw), has longer range for AR users
Smoke Grenade - now launches out of the barrel of the AR
Taser - Shot from the AR - has longer range for AR users
Caltrops - now shot from AR as a grenade - has longer range for AR users

    Additionally:-
Targeting Drone - Now increases range of Sniper Rifle as well as damage (to same as Psionic Lance).

I feel that this change would remove one of the remaining frustrations with the popular AR/Dev combo and complete it thematically.

  16. Stephen,

I'm decidedly unwell today so I'll keep this short and sweet - it was great to meet you at Continuum 2006, nice to chat with someone with true insight into the MMO world. Many thanks for everything you've done that directly or indirectly improved our gaming lives, and may you find better opportunities elsewhere.

    Health and Long Life.
  17. I'll be very happy (around Christmas time) to be able to pick up Sands of Mu on all my characters who took the Ghost Axe :-P

I don't know why anyone would be disappointed - Sands, Nem Staff, Blackwand and even Ghost Axe are all strong powers for just about any character. Having 3 of the 4 should make the low levels even faster - which is presumably the intent. Who wouldn't want 2 high-damage single-target ranged attacks with good secondary effects on, say, a scrapper or tanker?
  18. I didn't witness the event, but think Crystal_Cat showed strong character in coming back and admitting defeat - I can think of at least 15 trillion people who wouldn't have done so.

I think the moral of the story is that casual PvP and high level PvP are two very different beasts.
  19. LMAO at the video. Awesome use of Take On Me. The FA + Camera Spin was just awesome.
  20. Original Hero: Captain Albion

Most Notable Alias(es): John Wednesday, Duncan Fitzcairn, Duane Hicks, Amanda Crey, Inora Yinkinsdotter, Fenella, Vitruvian Man

Supergroup(s): The Knights of Albion, The Alternates (it's a play on the Ultimates for our alts on Union)

    Account Created:
In the US - 14th June 2004. Transferred to EU sometime after launch, but was in EU beta. 2nd account created about 15 months ago.

    Veteran Rewards Time:
Coming up to 39 months on my primary account, 15 on secondary. I should be at 39 months now but there was a mix-up when I transferred from the US and I didn't get full credit. Can't be bothered to quibble 6 weeks or so.

    What Are You Doing Now?:
    See below.

What would make you return to CoH?: I still play, although erratically - some weeks I might log time every day, others I might not play at all. I don't see myself ever leaving as it's a relaxing background hobby, but I can't imagine I'll ever be as active as I was for the first 9 months - I now have children, a busy job and many demands on my time.
  21. I think you need EndRedux on Phase Shift. You know about the temp power version of Phase Shift that it's really easy to get? If that's the power you want for concept, you may be able to save a few power slots.

Aside from that, it's not hugely like I've built my Kin/Son, but I think it's a good build!
  22. The cone is also very narrow on the Tanker version, although I still think it's a decent power as 3rd AoE after FSC and Combustion.

Which fight is that avatar from, Mark?
  23. Kat/Regen squishy? Odd, aside from having trouble taking alpha strikes, mine's very tough. Are you using DA?
  24. RoF is good. It's more AoE damage, and aside from Death is the only form of control the Fire primary has.

    It's pretty too... *ducks*
  25. I don't think I can bring John Wednesday along on that day. If my prior commitment falls through, I'll let you know ASAP.
