Has CoX spoiled other MMOs for me?

Don't be sad Days, *hugs - Don't look on it as you haven't been able to find another MMO the same quality as CoX, rather congratulate yourself you struck gold first time around!.
P.s: Twas my first MMO as well.
Days, you seem to be keen on teaming, and CoX has one of the best set of teaming mechanics there is. Largest team size of any MMO I'm aware of, plus the sidekick/mentor system.
It's also one of the few games in which levelling is a chore you have to get through so that you can do the end-game content.
It is a fairly unique game and, since the WoW model has proven so enormously successful, I suspect it will stay unique. If anything is likely to follow a model similar to CoX, it's going to be CO, being as the guy who originally created CoH is responsible for creating CO. However, as you have said, we really do not have enough detail on that game to say one way or the other. We may discover that has excellent teaming facilities, and also concentrates on end-game content.
PS. The secret to getting anywhere in WoW is to find a good guild, same is true of LotRO. You are far more likely to find people willing and able to help you that way.

I considered EVE but am given to understand that you need to dedicate significant periods of time to get through the tutorial without dying of boredom.

Edited for accuracy. EVE is the ONLY game I've played where I've decided 'bugger this for a game of trousers!' before managing to complete the tutorial.
CoX has spoiled us. I personally thought Auto Assault was fun while it lasted.
Still mucking about with WAR but yeah in general I agree with Days.
WoW you look so like everyone else, and yet everyone's in mismatched gear. I feel like Genericplayer101.
LotRO was good while we had that same group every week, but then I got to only playing in that group then I got to not playing and yeah that was that.
Eve was fun when I started, gave it all my enthuesiasm, then suddenly realised it required that level of dedication all the time, well it was a bit of a turn off. I like going out you see.
So yeah CoX deals with casuals when you want to be casual and makes you feel unique. That is why CoX wins. The only thing I can see that I would sub to on a permanant basis other than it is the Bioware one, just cause I love their writing and the way they make you feel involved.

After CoH, other MMO's just couldn't satisfy me anymore.
Well, okay, there was my spell with WoW, but my friends there were what I went for, and it's polished like a shiney... shiney... thing that shines.
GW and me have an odd relationship, it's more of a single player game for me to chill out and relax on. Granted it's the only single player game with network latency at times, but still. And it's pretty.
Tabula Rasa was exciting to consider, but it failed in its delivery to me. I think I was expecting something a little more Planetside/Exteel/Gunz than what the game was.
FFXI was just grind. Painful grind at that.
WAR... not really sure on that to be honest. I've not had much to do with the IP in any of its forms, and nothing so far has really grabbed me by the chops and screamed 'Play me!'
AoC I didn't have the money to get, and thus wanted to try it first. Part of me is glad that I didn't buy it first, and I've still yet to try it.
EVE. Excel in Space. Small fish, huge pool, lots of other small fish and shoals of other fish. Plus the UI was hardly intuitive.
The only releases I'm looking forwards to are:
EVE's Ambulation expansion. Just to see what walking about is like in the game.
Wrath of the Lich King. I've made a space for it on my shelf already.
Guild Wars 2. More idle curiousity, really.
Aion: Pretty. Flying. Pretty Flying. Flying Pretty. Nuff said.
Blade And Soul. Very pretty, and cool looking combat system. Downside is, chance of EU/US release?
Regarding EVE's tutorial:
I got through it the first time, went through it again to try and figure out what the hell I was doing, went through it once more, floated off into space kind of adrift in body and mind, did some missions and then quit. The tiny bit of RP I had was fun though. When I saw it on Steam, I decided to go back and try the trial again and see the engine upgrades.
I got to the space station and quit in the Tutorial part.
Pretty much my opinion too. The things that I really miss in other MMOs is the ability to really look unique, collision detection, knock back and the sidekick system.
I found lotro to be the best of a poor selection of other MMOs i've tried, but that's probably due to being a huge Tolkien fan when I was a child, the game itself was pretty poor but from a sightseeing point of view its spectacular.

As Ravenswing said, CoX is unique for the way it allows people to play together in large groups. I understand that GW2 will have a sidekick system of sorts.
I liked EVE but IMO for many it isn't an MMO, because the PvE is so limited and the PvP is hardcore you either do it or not, but whilst not PvPing the game is effectivly single player... though I had some good fun with my corp on PvE missions... level 4s in Frigates.
In WoW get into a good guild and levelling is easy, better yet get an addon that takes the information you need to find anything and presents it on the screen. (Lightheaded.)

There is actually an addon (which doesn't work after the last big patch, IIRC) which does a version of the CoX mission guidance system, on steroids. Given your set of quests, it will actually plot you a best course through the entire set, with a GPS arrow to tell you which way to go next. It's often useful to have something like Lightheaded as well, since that gives you in-game views of what other players have come up with for how to complete particular quests, hence often a lot more detail.

CoX was my very 1st MMO too!
I was used to play sport simulators (Fifa, NBA Live) and strategy (Roman Total War) videogames, besides I didn't like the idea of a monthly fee, but after using a 14 day Trial version, I ran to the newsstand to buy another magazine and use another 14 day Trial Code!! After that, I made my decision, I'd stay as long as this wonderful game would go on... 3 years have passed from that moment.
I've also tried some other MMOs, like WoW, I bought a trial version but I gave up and uninstalled it only a few hours later, I didn't enjoy it at all, I was a troll-like toon moving around hunting ostrich-like animals, I didn't understand anything, and no one was around to help me or explain me what to do, how did that work.
I'm tempted on DCUO or CO, but unless any of them can show me something REALLY spectacular, I'll be faithful to CoX to the very end, because of the fun, the customisation, story arcs, contacts, powersets, etc.
COX RULES!

It's partly the reason why I like playing Day of Defeat: Source. Struggling against the US Army/German Forces to try and win. Sure, you don't bond with your character as much, but there's nothing more fun than leaping over a bunker to go prone and start capturing a control point, while gunning down all commers.
Or, y'know, getting shot in the head by a sniper.
Interestingly, even Group-centric MMO FFXI has introduced 'Level Syncing' to try and encourage teaming more, removed the level restrictions on some equipment (Still not sure quite how that works, need more info) and made easier enemies that you have a chance of soloing give more exp. Previously, Sidekicking/exemping only really came into play with the buddy system, where you could recruit a friend and they'd have special items. When you wore them and teamed with your buddy, you'd be at their level to help out.
And now WoW's gone down that route too. With the odd side effect of being able to reach level 60 in 20 minutes. Now that's what I call power leveling.

Cox Is alot better than Wow in my exp I think nsoft should do more to promote it.
Wow is more well known but Cox is far superior.

Comparing Eve experiences, I tried a free trial pre-graphical redux, and found it fiddly, a weird GUI and when I did set a warp-speed wormhole gate heading I made for Eden Prime.
I was just taking in the scenery and listening to the broadcast (which was rather an unhelpful dialogue between newbies and Veterans) to his credit a Veteran did try to help me re:some questions I had - but on overall initial impression found it nowhere near the helpful community in CoX.
So there I was belting along in my basic ship heading for Eden Prime when nearing my destination I started to get a little bored, so I took a pot-shot at a craft that was clearly looking at me funny, anyway.. It turned out to be a Police NPC craft and proceeded to blow my ship to pieces.
I was still about 12 systems away from my destination so had to limp the rest of the way there in my escape pod, winding up passing ships by broadcasting my captains log as I went, what I was seeing out my escape-pod window and how I had the most deadly uber-pod out there and how they should phear teh pod.
45 minutes later I arrived at my destination. Eden Prime was rubbish, so I turned around and limped back.

This all the way.
Ever since playing CoX I can say that I no longer feel attracted to hunting in an open zone getting killsteals 24/7 or having to wait in line for that quest boss to respawn.
Quit plenty of MMOs because of that.
And every other MMO these days seem so darn... Generic since everyone wears the same items and if you dare to wear something different you get scolded and get any teams.
Well... -SWG Pre-NGE... I was the only male Teräs Käsi fighting wearing nothing but Bikini Leggings.
When I first tried EVE, there was a bug in the tutorial code that meant for every asteroid you mined, you only got 0.001 veldspar from it. Man that was BORING!!!!
I ended up dragging my sorry carcass back to the station and BUYING the rock I needed to get past that part of the tutorial! Not a good sign really!
Needless to say it was uninstalled pretty soon after that!
CoH is my second MMO, and the first I paid for (I was on the original beta for WoW and couldn't stand it). Every other MMO I've tried since has been measured against CoH as a base, and every one has come up wanting.

Before CoX I was a WoW-head, I confess. It was a family thing; husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law and brother-in-law all played it - the in-laws all out-levelled me and husband to the point of obliteration within months. Started to hate WoW with a passion by then anyway, mainly because it got so darn clique-y, i.e. if you were in a guild and you couldn't commit to The Friday Night Raid (EVERY Friday at 8pm, no excuses no nothing) you got kicked out of the guild. That and countless level 70 smartypants in full colour-clashing Epic Raid Gear sidling up to you and barking at you "Your armour's COMPLETELY wrong, you shouldn't be wearing that if you're a <insert class.> Oh, and you're specced all wrong too - you can't even DREAM of your toon being half-decent without having <insert long-winded breakdown of Spec of The Month.>" I mean, I don't mind a little helpful advice if I actually ASK for it, but hey, who's paying my monthly sub here, matey? Not you, that's for sure. So butt out and let me play MY game MY way.
Oh, and yes... before that I played - and, oh God, it pains me to remember this - I played Star Wars: Galaxies! I know, I know, the after-therapy cost a fortune... I still have flashbacks about travelling across faceless wilderness on a stupid bike thing for TWO HOURS (that's real life time, by the way, NOT game time!) hunting for a harvester that I'd paid a horrific amount of currency for just 48 hours ago - only to find when I FINALLY got there that the thing had blown itself to smithereens three minutes ago because I hadn't managed to perform maintenance on it within the allotted 48-hour time-limit.
And that was one of the FUN aspects of the game...!
CoX is my first MMO and to be honest I love it to death. Been on it for almost a year, although I had a break in the middle. I think the graphics are great, the gameplay is smooth and engaging and the sheer uniqueness of every character is brilliant.
I finally got into the WAR open beta last night and played it for a little while. So far it hasn't grabbed me in the way CoX has. I am still going to give it a try because I didn't have that much time on it last night but I found it hard to connect with my character as it seemed very generic. Also the graphics and gameplay don't seem as good as CoX. And there were far to many people around, I know people are worried about CoX EU side being quiet but I found that I didn't like it when there were about 50 people running around me in the same space!
The thing about WAR that attracts me is the playing as a group in the whole RvR setting which I haven't experienced so there is a chance I may still get into it.
However, I can always see myself playing CoX because of the community (im a member of a couple of brilliant SGs) and that each of my characters is completely different to somebody elses.

[/ QUOTE ]
This is exactly what attracted me to WAR in the first place. RvR seemed to have a point, which is something I haven't found in PvP in any other game. I am sure that if CoX gets base raids sorted out properly I would try and join a SG that is involved and give them a go, hopefully even enjoy them as the idea of them appeals.

I would also have to agree. I haven't found a more friendly community that is willing to help out with random missions or even just with advice. erhaps if Ihad experienced this in some of these other games Imay have played them longer...
I was lucky that my brother, comic-head that he is, gave CoX a go, back when he was able. He, very kindly, given what I was like back then let me have a go with the character builder, and then said 'oh well, off you go'.
Dear god, I was hooked. It took me a while to get to the game properly, as I had a bit of a battle with the old mater 'n' pater about the internet and paying for it business =P but it was worth it.
Rp-wise I was lucky to fall in with the Corporation on Villains, which I got a bit after Heroes. They firmly dealt with my god-moding ways and turned me from the 'Tool to be' into the real Techbot Alpha =D which was much more fun at any rate.
EVE...sounded epic. I tried it. It was...huge. Too huge, really. Although it was beautiful and the concept was impressive and its aims were astronomical...it was indeed one of those higher end 'Addict' level MMOs...and I didnt have the time or brainpower for that.
CoX, on the other hand, is fantastic. You can tailor characters to fit nearly any storyline you come up with, the RP community tends to be fantastic, the levelling and teaming is generally ace...
I mean, a perfect example of why CoX rocks. I logged back onto my new Controller (I've always had a problem with them...) in the sewers, after the last run. I was about halfway between Kings Row and Atlas, and was given on the fact, t'hell, im going to have to die. Ran into the first mob, was managing...except for the two damn Eidolon bosses.
And then, just as it was all aboard the deathtrain...BAM! The Vahzilock mob gets obliterated.
A sewer running group had come round the corner and saved the day in absolutely comicbook gold style If that had been WoW or anything else, they would have gone 'LoL!11 n00b roflcopter' and let me die, then steal all the [censored], most likely. But no, the Heroes not only pounded the opposition into the dirt, but they let me tag along to kings, harvesting a few more levels along the way =]
Now tell me that any game can match that, in any way, eh?
(One note, which game is WAR? and whats RvR, because that deosnt ring any bells...oh, and Base Radis would indeed be cool, I have to admit =P )
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

City of heroes was my first MMO. At the time that it started I thought the idea of continually paying for a game was a rubbish idea... then I tried it (well, to be honest I tried the costume creator) and was hooked.
Recently I have tried a few other MMOs and almost always come away dissapointed.
I tried WoW and found myself lost completely; the game apparently started at the level cap and that was so far away and there was noone seemingly interested in helping a newcomer to the game (and I don't mean with a PL).
LOTRO was fun, but only while I was with a few friends happily playing together in a group. Without them I was dissilusioned with the fact that groups tended to appear for one particular mission (in which everyone charged off with the presumption that you knew what was expected) and then once the task was completed, the group just dissolved.
I considered Age of Conan, but fortunately waited to see how launch went and was totally put off by what I heard about it, I considered EVE but am given to understand that you need to dedicate significant periods of time to do anything. Most recently I considered WAR but, after getting quite excited about it, the mess GOA made of open beta launch meant that I had little enthusiasm for it by the time I finally had a go and it failed to grip me.
Also in none of them I felt unique. If I am a barbarian hero I look and dress like every other barbarian hero (perhaps with a slightly different face and differently coloured hair). If I am a female elf I dress in exactly the same way as every other female elf (and have the same vital statistics too) and further, I seem to have the same story as everyone else.
CoX lets me play for a tiny period of time and get a reward for it. It lets me play solo and achieve something. It lets me join groups where people chat, have fun and help each other when necessary. It lets me improve my character or not as I choose. And wherever I look I can find new character stories or looks to catch my interest. I recently encountered a Spanish SG who were all 'classic' villains. The good old fashioned stereotypes of villains. I was DELIGHTED!
I have looked at CO and DCUO but they have yet to show me anything that makes me think I would have more fun there.
Has it just been the fact that this was my first MMO which has shaped my perceptions of what I expect from a MMO that has made me fail to enjoy these others? But saying that, surely CoX can't be THAT different from everything that I have looked at, can it? Or is there something that I have missed, some other game that I might get further enjoyment from? Or is it the case that CoX is just the game for me and I should give up looking?
