Has CoX spoiled other MMOs for me?
I'm not sure I can sing any more praise than has already been sung. I loved this games since I started playing it *years* ago. I've badge-hunted, levelled, designed, RP-d, built an SG from the ground up, a base, an SG website, a forum, a 'family' of heroes - the lot.
It's a game that *is* going to spoil you - because you finally get to be WHO you want to be. You really feel as though you are playing 'their' storyline, 'your' way. That's the best part.

Ditto - Every other MMO I've tried has been disappointing - the only one that ever came close to COH was SWG, but, well, it was bugged to hell (3 years to fix a bug that prevents you doing a starting level mission? No thanks.) And then they cripple the interesting game with to make it the same as every other MMO?
COH seems to be the only MMO for me at the moment. I've tried to dabble and I've come away fairly disappointed every time.
Here's to many more years.

I've also tried Eve. I gave up when I read the chat. It seemed to me that most veterans didn't like new players
Also played EQ2 for about a year. Why I played it that long is beyond me It put me off teaming for a long while. A wipe was followed by A) half the team leaving. B) a hour long rant on what went wrong and who's fault is was
I've now been playing CoH/V for 18 months and still enjoying it as much as I did when I started. Plus I now look for teams because a wipe is not the end of the world I have also got my wife to play this wonderful game and I think we must be the oldest duo out there (116 years between us )

What other game allows me to play an evil genius with a fondness for twiddling his mustache while his thugs beat some poor unfortunate to a sad little puddle. What other game allows me to state "Cursus, foiled again" when some do-gooder spoils my plans?
That and I can fly as well. No other game can beat that.
I started with Earth&Beyond, and loved it! It was... waow. Beautiful, poetic, mysterious... and of course a dissappointment revenue-wise. So of course it was shut down.
Next up was ROSE Online. Pretty korean grind with cool hats. I still miss the hats.
I tried WoW for exactly two weeks. Hated the art direction, so I couldn't get into the game. I tried it later with two new weeks. The art direction still made me puke, but I persevered, and discovered that everyone looked the same. Then I gave up.
About that time, I got into City of Heroes. I'm still here, which says a lot.
LOTRO: tried that too. There was a bug that made the textures flicker, which gave me headaches. Not only that, my minstrel apparently played so much worse than Sid Vicious that the orcs' brains imploded. The very silliness of it killed every Tolkien feeling there were - besides, it was still just a WoW with sindarin/quenya names on everything except hobbits and player characters.
I installed RF Online one day. That's it.
I hoped that D&D Online would be it. It was not. It was just groups on short quests.
Lesee... did I forget anyone? Oh, yes: Seed. It was kind of a euro-comic Metal Hurlant without the sex and gore. It wasn't my thing.
I hoped that EVE Online would be what Earth&Beyond was. It wasn't. "Excel in space" is actually the best description I've ever heard. And I hated not being able to leave the spaceship. I identify with humans, not spaceships, so there wasn't any role to play.
For much the same reason, Space Cowboy didn't get me either. Besides, it was more of an multiplayer arcade space shooter than an MMO, so... no.
...which reminds me of the third massive multiplayer game that I actually enjoyed playing: Pang-Ya. But again, there's no RPG in it. Just golf.

Alas, Seed died less than 3 months after launch... They never DID get it working right...
@FloatingFatMan
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
WISH died 9 days into closed beta.
It was to be an RP'ers dream, kind of. But the interface was poor, there was no in game documentation, no out of game documentation, a poor tutorial, it looked like Neverwinters Nights and ran even worse.
My first MMO was EverQuest - I spent 3 years there. I spent short periods of time after that (6 months in each at most) in Asheron's Call, Dark Age of Camelot, and I dabbled with tons of others like AO and SWG. Then after an enforced 18 month or so break from MMOs while I finished my uni degree I had a few months in Rubies of Eventide, Runescape (dull), Biosfear (awful) and a few other free MMOs whose names I forget, then 9 months each in EverQuest 2 and Planetside (though my playing times on those did overlap as I had a SOE Station Pass), I dabbled with D&D Online on a 14 day free trial (and almost hit the level cap by the end of it!), I beta-tested Vanguard, Auto Assault, Guild Wars, Irth Online (awful), and CoV, and have spent 2 years in CoH/V albeit with a year break in the middle for 6 months of WoW and 6 months of beta testing Tabula Rasa and Pirates of the Burning Sea.
The only games there I miss are EverQuest 1 & 2 rarely, Planetside quite a bit, even WoW sometimes, but mainly for the experiences and friends I had there more than the games themselves. The only MMO I've ever missed so much that I re-subscribed to it is CoH/V - and yes it does seem to have spoiled me. Before I played CoH/V I was interested in every MMO that was coming out and wanted to try them all - I was always looking to jump to the next new MMO - but I've become so jaded and disappointed by new MMOs lately, and so happy just playing CoH/V, that there are hardly any MMOs I'm looking forward to that much anymore.
Honestly if I was to become bored of CoH/V in the near future I don't think I'd be playing an MMORPG at all - I'd probably just go back to playing lots of single player games.

I was sad to see both WISH and the original Horizons die - and to not have seen Hero's Journey come anywhere near release (that looked like a nice lore/story-heavy MMO too). That terrible Irth Online I beta-tested did buy some WISH assets, but it was hard to wade through all the rubbish the Irth Dev team had done to see any of that (you couldn't even walk uphill without getting stuck). In fact Irth was so bad it actually messed up my PC to the point I had to re-install everything. It could have been worse though - I could have been a beta tester for Mourning or Dark & Light

... So that's why I got an invite for Irth Online! I was in the Wish Beta! I did try to install it, but it didn't run.
Lineage 2 was a bit to awkward control and UI wise for me, whatever Granada Espado was released as over here was buggy, lacking in character development and had rubbish translation that made the tutorial almost unplayable, Fairyland was a quite fun turn based combat MMO, Ragnarok Online was all grind and funky hats, and then more grind, Dark Age of Camelot was borning, unintuitive and ultimately confusing, Dungeon Runners a casual only hack and slash fest, FlyFF was overly colourful and pretty, but ultimately a grindfest, Maple Story was all grind and hats... noticing a common theme occuring with Korean MMO's.
Now, if someone turned these franchies into MMO's, and good ones at that, I'd be happy:
Shadowrun
Deadlands
Fading Suns
Pokemon. (Don't you dare laugh. Come on, it's the ultimate MMO!)
CoX is my first MMO as well. The game never fails to satisfy me. Sure, I may take ages deciding on a character to play, but its fun. Although, I do have a confession to make; if a really, really awesome Fantasy MMO came out, I'd probably leave.
I do like CoX, but I am searching for a Fantasy MMO to play because that's what my imagination revolves around. If I day dream, I day dream that I am an uber-cool, sword-wielding sorcerer. Unfortunately, WoW didnt provide me with the thrill I wanted. It is good, but I couldn't settle into a Class. Also, the fact that the majority of the community are very anti-newb and very critical about your characters Class, Spec and Gear put me off too. WAR... just hates me.
Although, having read some of the above posts I am tempted to try Guild Wars. Or is it Guild Wars 2? Are they any good? Anyway, I will probably be playing CoX for a little while longer.

I don't want to be a thug. I want to be all-powerful. Decimate an entire city with a wave of my hand. An unrivalled swordsman feared throughout the land.
Good-looking yet can kill with a single stare. Long, silver hair and a bad [censored] sword with an awesome name like Sephiroth...

You could be something closed to that in CoH - but destroying cities would break the game

How could I make something close to Sephiroth in this game? It is simply not possible. He is everything that encompasses awesome. Why, if he was real I'd have s** with him. That's how awesome and cool and hot and awesome and cool and freaking amazing he is.
... anyway. Moving on.

(only joking )
Said before and i'll keep saying it xD Love this game because there are so many different real life characters in the game that no matter what team your on, its going to be a different experience. Set up my own team earlier to do missions from lvl 1 (i hate doing sewers, missions are more interactive) and we had such a bllassstttt!!! I love PUG's in the game!
Also set up a lvl 50 PUG the other day and THEY asked me can we just go hunt monsters on monster island for the sake of it! I admit at first i was like "eh wa?" but had another great time! Now im just looking to see what other random things i can do ingame xD
Long live the game! Long live the game! xD (too much praise?)
