Has CoX spoiled other MMOs for me?

noticing a common theme occuring with Korean MMO's.
[/ QUOTE ]
I do tend to avoid them, but mainly because I dislike the art styles and the grindy gameplay that is always mentioned in reviews. They're games created for a different gameplay culture with different expectations/needs and I very much doubt I'd get much out of them.

Now, if someone turned these franchies into MMO's, and good ones at that, I'd be happy:
Shadowrun
Deadlands
Fading Suns
Pokemon. (Don't you dare laugh. Come on, it's the ultimate MMO!)
[/ QUOTE ]
Shadowrun and Deadlands definitely - both very rich IP backgrounds that would make fantastic MMOs. While we're mentioning old pen & paper RPGs may I add to the list Rifts, Paranoia, RuneQuest/Glorantha, In Nomine, and the old World of Darkness too (actually I think there's a WoD MMO in planning as White Wolf is owned by the company behind EVE Online now)? I'd love to see more MMOs based on old RPG properties (hey it happened to Champions - anything is possible).
I never owned/played Fading Suns, but that sounds fun too from what I've just read about it on Wikipedia - so it's a bit like Traveller but with more flair and religious elements? In fact from what I read it could be a less dark version of Warhammer 40,000 - actually I'd kill for a good WH40k MMO. There are only two IPs I'd want to see made into an MMO more than that - G1 Transformers (how cool would it be to play an avatar that could transform?!), but most of all I want a Battletech MMO.
Just imagine how awesome that could be - a Battletech MMO where the players could be Mechwarriors who can own multiple battlemechs (and perhaps even aircraft, tanks or elementals too), customise them and scavenge new parts/weapons for them from defeated mechs - player-guilds would be mercenary outfits who would own (and be based from) their own dropship, and both unguilded "freelance" players and the mercenary outfits could work for any of the Houses/Clans in the Inner Sphere and even switch allegiance from time to time, to keep the faction-based PvP fresh. It's a dream I have...
I won't laugh at Pokemon - actually I feel a bit nauseous - does anyone have a bucket?

Pokemon. (Don't you dare laugh. Come on, it's the ultimate MMO!)
[/ QUOTE ]I've been saying that for years.
Some ideas that I've toyed with over the years.
Zombie Apocalypse survivor MMO ( think left for dead on a massive scale )
S.T.A.L.K.E.R online
Sequel to Planetside
My most intricate idea is two linked MMO's, one which is SIMS online, where people live out their lives, chat etc like second life, but in a city and can get jobs etc.
The data from that game is then fed into a second MMO as the population information, the second MMO being a persistant online hitman style game

WAR is Warhammer: Age of Reckoning also known as Warhammer online. RvR is Realm vs Realm. Its kind of like PvP but on a grander scale. Once you join a server you either can allign yourself to order/destruction. The idea is that you are literally at war with the other side, so not only are you playing missions but you are also battling in to gain control over your part of the land. You can gain keeps etc and eventually raid capital cities etc.
The closest thing I think we have to it in CoX is in one of the Hero vs Villain PvP zone recluses victory. Where you fight for control of a potential future for Primal Earth. This future is determined by the capture and control of various Temporal Anchors, each defended by a Pillbox.
However in WAR entire maps areas of maps are flagged for RvR combat
Sorry for double post but I just wanted to say that I think a pokemon MMO would be brilliant! And I am awaiting for the US release for Pokemon: Platinum so I can import it.
I also think that a fantasy MMO that would draw me no questions would be one that offers the same level of character customisation and selection of powers as CoX as that is one of the things about CoX which keeps me here! (I have to refrain myself from buying new character slots on the english servers!).
I think if they turned Neverwinter Nights into a MMO then I could get into that.

I considered EVE but am given to understand that you need to dedicate significant periods of time to get through the tutorial without dying of boredom.

Edited for accuracy. EVE is the ONLY game I've played where I've decided 'bugger this for a game of trousers!' before managing to complete the tutorial.
CoX has spoiled us. I personally thought Auto Assault was fun while it lasted.

CoH was also my first MMO and while I've played others in beta or for a few months at a time (I bought AoC, I've tried WoW, I've also just subbed for a month to Tabula Rasa, £9.99 from playNC, and it's fixed now!) I've yet to stop my Coh sub purely because I don't enjoy it anymore. Sure I've stopped it cos of house moves or lack of cash for a few weeks but whenever I've had the money this is the game I've always made sure I'm subbed to.
Other games have their good points but CoH's good points are many. The costume creator, the inspired decision to make powers and slotting have little or no effect on your costume (DA aside) making it possible for everyone to be an individual. The sidekick system has yet to be bettered on any MMO i've tried. AoC has a system like this but without CoH this system probably wouldn't be there.
CoH is also a great 'pick up' game. if you only have an hour before you're due to go out or it's 10pm and you'll need to go to bed before 12 on most other MMO's all you could do is log in and chat to your guild/SG/whatever. There'd be very little you actually could do for that short a period of time. With Coh you could easily have saved the world twice, resuced a few damsels in distress, prevented yet another alien invasion as well as made some extra cash on the auctions. Conversely you could also have kidnapped someone, defeated several interfering go-gooders while beating them down for having the tenacity to try and oppose you and travelled backwards in time. This is what makes CoH great!
Yes there are a few flaws and soemtimes the graphics are showing their age a little, but overall I'm still genuinely surprised at how 'badly' it performs against other MMO's. pretty much anyone who's played the game has many more good things than bad things to say about it. It's just a shame WoW dominates the market so much and NCSoft don't have the marketing budget to push the game as far as it deserves.

NCsoft do have the marketing budget to push the game as far as it deserves, but they have to:
A)Realise CoH is one of the mainstay 'jewels in the crown', not that they were not completely oblivious to it, - just that they were concentrating on diversifying (with Exteel, Auto-Assault, Dungeon runners, Tabula Rasa and Aion) and now with their statement that they are going to concentrate on their 'triple A titles', I get the impression that with economic recession obviously affecting the company both sides of the Atlantic It has retreated its corporate borders and ambition a little and taken a good long hard look at just what we are subscribing to.
As has been previously mentioned, 'on-the-ground' support for a game on foreign soil is hideously expensive. I also think any studio is lucky to have one title nowadays that has lasted as long as Lineage II, GuildWars or City of Heroes/Villains has nevermind expecting all the current MMO diversication previously mentioned to take off as well.
I appreciate the school of thought that says if you are not constantly expanding your portfolio then you are just treading water in the marketplace, but there is an equally valid argument for spreading yourself too thin.
Yes it is good a company is trying to introduce us to new products but I get the impression with the old NCsoft plan it really was too much and too many products targeted to subscribers that weren't really interested.
I can't put my finger on why for example exactly Tabula Rasa is in trouble, other than my own experiences as a Sci-Fi fan and it not really grabbing my attention at all, and that really was not to do with the advertising or marketing rather I just saw it as too plain a generic Sci_fi MMO with features that really didn't grab my attention despite all the targeted advertising I received.
Its dodgy launching an MMO on a new licence, one whose IP has not already proved to have captured an audiences imagination for example: An MMO on the Star Trek Online franchise was a bit of a no-brainer for Cryptic, I can see why they pounced on it, It is not a matter of if but when that MMO (along with Bioware's KoTOR MMO) is going to be a potential WoW-slayer in my opinon .
With GuildWars and City of Heroes they have been around so long they have kind of generated their own solid fanbase independant from TV/Movie IP.
b) After this corporate reshuffle and reflection on what these Triple-A titles are in the portfolio maybe there will be more emphasis on developing these titles for the future, whether that means new engine transplants, full blown sequels or an exponential increase in content... we'll have to wait and see. - The titles that have endured and survived have done so for a reason and that is because they have captured the audiences/subscribers imagination in a massive way, a way any company is lucky to have done once yet alone three times.

I had a feeling it might be Age of Reckoning (even if I forgot the title at the time XD)
The only problem I can see with that is people screaming 'Oh M Gee, WoW Clone lolz h4x !!!1111'
Which, imo, it wont be. Reason being its made my Gameworkshop, or at least is overseen by GW or people who are mad into it. And GW has a damn good background in all its games. That, and little stupid kiddies that go around annoying people probably wont get it, and people who think GW stuff is sad wont get it...meaning that the community will be very close knit (in backgroun at least) and therefore (probably) a verry good one. That, and its Warhammer :P Chaos, anyone?
RvR sounds cool. Hmm...Longbow and Arachnos, like in Sirens Call....but bigger. And with Supers in army sizes....-world conquest plans loom-
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

to answer the main question: for me, yes it has ...
i've tried WoW for a whole 7 levels
Lineage 2, Horizons, RF Online, LotRO, Auto Assault
and basicly, they're all the same grind-game (AA being the exception cuz of the vehicles, but still)
CoX is (and always will be) the most fun for me
the costumes, the storylines, all the powersets, BADGES , etc; ...
and i don't need to worry about having to grind my way to the top, cuz the xp flows nicely
Almost forgot I tried TR as well but just couldn't get into it. I think I here until the men with the white coats take me away or CoH/V is no more
