PUG Fun!
No *censor* really.
I usually live off PUGs thanks to my sometimes weird playing times.
And 8 out of 10 times it's a blast(the remaining times has a leader that wants 7 healors or a really bossy person telling everyone exact orders and expect them to follow them perfectly... No... My debuffs is not a form of healing)
So your experience is pretty much a normal day for me.
Yep, have to say that more often than not PuGing turns out to be fun for me. Even with the low-level group I was in yesterday, where we had trouble going five minutes without several people dying. Because we died in a fun way
However, it turned out that Smith was not a time-travelling Terminator
PuGs are usually good. Except for one i had last night.
First of all he had such bad english i didn't understand a word he was saying "da AV iz ere" stuff like that. wondered if he was russian he said "da" alot, like infront of every thing... da boss, da av, da mission...
Figured i'll just ignore him, then he proceeded with the mission, which was clockwork king one, he dashes off to clockwork king to solo it, died in half a second, then i see a buncha lines in caps, no idea what he meant to say. (Da tp ??). anyway, next i know he's spam inviting level 50's, to kill a lvl 43 AV. when most the 50's go in, they just turned around, quit and left. heh. So did i.
I wonder if he managed to kill the AV evetually.
My favourite times spent on PUG's were the times when I could indulge in a little IC chat. A memorable occassion was when, during a break in the action, an empath decided to see how many times he could put clear mind on my scrapper. The Slash Bunny, aided by his numerous clear minds, started to remember his previous life as a magician and realised how the magic trick went wrong and turned him into a bunny! Unfortunately they wore off before he could tell anyone how to fix his mistake.
PUG's can be GREAT fun, I find. I have rarely teamed with anyone so annoying that they have spoiled my fun and I have made numerous friends from participating.

Oh, I wonder what "da" might be short for. And TP, well, there's a conundrum - what on earth could that stand for? AV? Not a clue. Iz? Well, obviously a misspelling of "id", and "ere" must refer to someone's ears, and couldn't possibly be one letter off "here".
Here's a big word for you, as opposed to those pesky shortened ones: phonetic.
A vast majority of my PuG experiences are positive, to the point that I'll even accept a blind invite if I am not doing anything else at the time. I've even been on a PuG ITF that worked very well around the time it was launched.
Building PuG teams can also be extremely rewarding.

Nope, it's phonetic; and not everyone can read phonetic spellings...Or perhaps just don't want to contribute to the continued development of illiteracy on the internet.

Think FFM overlooked a funny
As a terminal altitis sufferer I can be playing toons of all levels across 3 servers. So PUGs are often the only way to get a team. And most of them are good. The occasional bad one usually quickly falls apart or I suddenly discover that my SG needs me for a TF.
UNION @Flitz 50, Lead Hose 50, Red Rag 50
DEFIANT Rose Bloodthorn 34
VIGILANCE Captain Caledonia 20 - Yeah, I made toons on the French server coz we only had 4 back then (might have to transfer/recreate them on one of the US servers)
..and many more!
Ahh good ol PuGs...they're great...generally.
There is the odd time when a PuG has resulted in frustration, but I always have a quick excuse ready to leave in the advent of such things.
If I'm teaming with friends and I'm the leader (as I usually am thanks to my Girlfriend's phobia of stars) I'll try to fill up the team with Random folk...and again I've rarely been disapointed.
As long as peeps ask beforehand I'll happily join
I don't wanna save my soul now,
I just wanna lose control,
And even if it takes a lifetime, to learn:
I'll learn!

and Ta standoff, forgot I was on the interwebs
Well, my only real beef with PUG's at the moment seems to be the insistance to do Newspaper missions instead of anything else that's remotely more interesting.
We have other missions! *sobs*

My only beef with PUG's is that I only ever get the invites when I'm busy RPing!

As much as I understand british people not having that much difficulty trying to read text like that it might be well hard for us "foreigners" to decypher text like that. Most of the time I can actually understand what people are trying to say, but then again, there are times when this phonetic spelling just doesnt get the message through.
Although I think this is just because I'm used to the way Finnish works >.< every single wroten letter is always pronounced the same way no matter what (well there is like 1 or 2 differences... but nothing major )

Sad because its true sometimes...
One of the things I first (and always) loved about CoH was PUG's - even though I had no clue about what PUG meant in those days! Teaming is what has kept me playing the game - soloing is good when you aren't on long but for me the social aspect of teaming with new people or old mates is what I love most!

Don't worry Carni, some of us got it without having to have it explained.
Have to say that my overall experience of PuGs was poor, which is why I don't do them. PuG = death and/or frustration.
The only character I've ever done successful PuGs with was my Empath, and even there I remember a delightful run where the entire team seemed determined to commit suicide at the first possible oportunity.
While the phonetic spelling is bad enough, I find the ones where various members say absolutely nothing are worse.

As I may have mentioned here before, I can be a bit shy when it comes to PUG's. But today... today I indulged in some grouping action, and it was a -lot- of fun!
The Maintainer, a builder from New Overbrook who grew tired of Clockwork raids and crime and picked up his trusty wrench, put out a call that he was up for helping some people in justice, and he was soon snapped up for a group.
We decided to head into the sewers, and IC comments galore helped in our rampage against our enemies, going from level 2 to 6 fairly quickly, bantering, having fun and generally delivering justice.
So firstly: Damn, I should try and PUG more often! And throw in more In Character fun.
And secondly: Thanks to Anastasia, Phoenix Assassin, Infernal Demon, UnReal, PowerPop Girl, Miss Ice Arrow, and anyone who I forgot to mention for a fun morning of skull bludgeoning.
Oh, and thirdly: Sewer runs are pretty damn fun too.
