51 & 54 Month Vet Rewards
Personally I think the vets are fine, yes i am only at 33 months so I still eagerly anticipating the blackwand and the nemesis staf, woulnd't mind have the them both at once tbh. But I mainly use them for the early levels until i got enough powers from my actual powerset.
the way i see it is something extra. We pay subcriptions for maintenance and unkeep of the servers. The issues are free because NC Soft needs more content to keep the old players and get new players.
I only use the freespec or tailor token and the powers at the early levels. I certainly will use the summon teammates power once i get it. And some of the costume pieces are nice. But personally i don't see no reason to complain about the various different rewards even if I find no use for them.
By the way GG i prefer the Ghost slaying axe. I hate missing with the Sands of mu! ;-)
They should either improve the awards or drop it alltogether.
Using recycled stuff isn't really that great. Pretty dissapointed here.

Yes I feel it is a shame that we will be getting the power that we didn't want earlier in the veteran choices, but sometimes even the veterans rewards that are totally new , aren't necessarily wanted by everyone.Personally I don't think I'll be using the boxing gloves outfit from the 39 month veteran.
If I chose a MA scrapper then martial arts gloves aren't anything like boxing gloves, and if it's for a more social reason and we had a heroes/villains fancy dress competition then I'd more likely go as Elvis than Muhammed Ali or Mike Tyson so I think sometimes we just have to roll with the punches (pardon the awful pun) and hope that 3 months later there will be something better. Maybe they are concentrating on something really awesome that for the next 3 or 4 veterans we'll be getting fairly basic ones.
However I suppose anything is better than nothing.

Well, it's sort of like this: not getting desert is fine; getting desert is great; getting desert, but it's just a slice of white breat with butter, is disappointing.

I used the boxing gloves on my katana scrapper... which probably explains why he's still such a low level

But it's actually just a half slice of a slice of white bread we got 21 month ago.

ewww i like leaf's better but it's mostly (for me) getting costume items AFTER a veteran reward that is just a respec than it is just 4 years for costume items
I hoped they would add the pre-order villain helmets to the VET rewards - and they did.
I'm happy. No complaints here.

So, you'd be happy with a lump of coal for an xmas pressie then?

We know Positron doesn't like using significant development time on things that only affect a tiny fraction of the populaton. I expect there are less than 1000 people who qualify for the 54 month VR.
I really should do something about this signature.

I just get the impression that they kinda regret starting the whole vet reward system, and barely spend ANY time figuring out what to use for the next one. Look at all the problems the buff pets have caused them...
[/ QUOTE ]
Those buff pets were something nice and unique for the vet rewards, and have been rather a large amount of work due to all the bugs with them! Can't imagine Posi's been best pleased with that.

Given the price of coal atm I'd be delighted!
I could trade it in for a Porsche.

Indeed, and the "leftovers" temp power vet seems to have had very little thought.

Probably not. The VRs have always been at least 75% tat though. Greek letters anyone?

But some people may have found those useful. The Devs can't give away a game-changing temp power or a completely new costume piece (not texture, but piece - like boxing gloves, trenchcoats, etc) for every reward. That would be a good way to hack off people who haven't been around from the start. As the reward months increase, the further away those rewards get from a new subscriber, so they cant be too game-changing.
As it is any new player (or new account of existing player) who wants to make a boxer character has to wait 3 years and 3 months before they can do it properly - you can't even get shorts on a male/huge character currently without that 39 month reward. Is that reasonable? Imagine the uproar if the Devs made it so that the only way you could ever get a backpack/jetpack costume piece was to be a 57 or 60 month veteran. Would that be fair?
Sure trenchcoats are easy to get - just 3 months - but why couldnt the Devs have given a plain cloth texture trenchcoat (like Columbo wears) to everyone and then had the cooler leather texture (the Neo/Trinity look) as the 3 month reward? Why couldnt shorts have been given to everyone, but just have a nicer texture/pattern of shorts on the 39 month reward? That would have made both of those costume pieces more like wings (available to anyone via Invention system, but arguably the best looking wings are only available with the 15 month vet reward).
There are tons of things other than tailor/respec tokens that the Devs could put in as vet rewards that wouldn't hack off non-veterans much.
- Variant emotes (e.g. drinking beer instead of tea - eating pie instead of a hotdog/donut)
- Variant costume textures (e.g. new patterns for spandex/skin/clothes/capes, new textures for existing pieces like the aforementioned non-leather trenchcoat, new aura variants)
- Variant base items (e.g. wall pictures and furniture items culled from existing art from zones/maps)
- Variant powers (like the prestige sprints)
Though I do think the Devs were overly generous with the early rewards - offering several things on a single reward badge - because now all the long-term vets expect that kind of generosity for every single new reward.

Not just with the rewards, but also with the reward names. I mean, Faithful at 6 months and Loyal at 12? That was a bit shortsighted, surely.
I'd recommend that they give something spectacular for the 60 months award, and then either change it to yearly rewards after that, or find some other way to reward people past that point. (Tokens that can be exchanged for CoX merchandise, a free level up for a character on the account's anniversary, a slight reduction in subscription price, get a bug renamed after you, a nerf-bat and ten minutes alone with Positron ... something along those lines.)
There are several threads similar to this, all we can do is post our disappointment on any one of them, suggest alternatives, keep the critisism constructive and hope a Moderator passes along such threads to NorCal.
End of really, If Norcal cannot justify allocating Dev time to rejigging the Vet Award programme for minimum payback then, Im afraid they are always going to remain what they are now - a welcome addition, but not a proper system to strive to stay subscribed for.
