I don't know why anyone would be disappointed - Sands, Nem Staff, Blackwand and even Ghost Axe are all strong powers for just about any character.

It's just that ... sure it's useful and practical, but it's just not much fun. It's not shiny and new. It's like getting woolen long johns for Christmas. They're useful and practical and you'll be glad you have them when it's cold but ... they're just not very exciting as presents goes. You can't help but be a little disappointed.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is a weird one for me. I'll be a recipient of these awards as saoon as thery come out yet I feel a bit odd that I can get things that others cant have literally for years to come.

My personal opinion is that the entire direction of awards should change.

For example, while I dontr think its right that I can get objects noone else (nearly) can aquire in the short term, things that offer me bragging rights are welcome.

Also, perhaps, I'm that little bit more entitled to a purple enhancement maybe?

These are gifts that anyone can aquire. Its just I get 1 every three months for free. I think thats a pretty good way to keep the vet awards going without all the heavy thiunking about what to do next time etc etc.

And maybe the small assist the purples give my 50s is reflective of my time in CoH?

Maybe they should just stick all vet rewards from now on as a badge and a costume token, except for the year markers where you get something nice?

Good idea. That way they can keep development on the parts of the game that everyone can get access to.

People play games until they get sick of them, then move on, thats that. Reward points/prizes dont win anyones loyalty.

[/ QUOTE ]

So loyalty schemes used by companies all over the planet are the marketing people being silly and frivolously giving away stuff?

That's just ridiculous, a product is successful for various reasons, never just one. The quality might be good and it might be reasonably prised, it might be marketed well and have good return customer policies (loyalty schemes). If several aspects of the product are horrible then the product is most likely to fail.

[/ QUOTE ]
The loyalty rewards used by most companies all over the planet have very different purposes to the CoX ones.

There, the companies are competing with others to sell people a particular commodity - Tesco want their loyalty bonuses to make you buy groceries from them rather than Sainsburys, Shell gives you toys to encourage you to fill up there rather than the BP station down the road, BA gives you air miles so you'll fly with them rather than RyanAir.

[/ QUOTE ]

I never use loyalty cards, particularly from supermarkets, for one simple reason. Tesco and Sainsbury don't give loyalty bonuses to make you buy groceries from them and not their rivals. They give loyalty bonuses to encourage you to continually use your loyalty card so they can collect more and more data about your spending habits so they can target you more effectively. They probably know more about your day to day routine than you do.

You're missing the point a bit. Take my wife for example. (Please. )

She tells me to go shopping. She tells me to go to Tesco not Sainsburies and take the clubcard.

See, if it weren't for those loyalty bonuses I may well have gone to Sainsburys.

Now if I decide to dump Tescos entirely I may not even factor the clubcard in. But while I'm a "floater" the card swiungs me and my family there.

And I also have dropped the game for several months and kept the subscription running because of the awards.

Going deeper, its possible the awards aid retention because, If I werent still paying I'm not sure Ide have gone through the whole regimarole of re signing on. As it was I just logged in once then twice and before I knew it I was hooked again.

So there is a logic to them.

[/ QUOTE ]

No you missed the point or didnt read what i said.

When you are swinging or on a break, you aint finnished using a product or service.

Vet rewards dont make up the only reason someone plays this game, or keeps them playing.

Your no more entitled to extra purple recipes than me or anyone else who's beeen here from day dot, or a year or 2 days.

Just go and buy them, thats not what vet rewards are about.

Yeah, just think about it, they might actually advertise something you'd actually be interested in to you. The horror.

The 51 month reward is something that some in the community have actively asked for. The 54 month gives an opportunity to choose again from some popular powers granted in earlier rewards.

Neither of them are for a particularly big milestone ... I think you'll all be quite happy when the 60 month (5 years) reward is announced .

[/ QUOTE ]

Robes then? CoT robes for players right? I hope so, I want to be happy

Free lifetime subscription?

That would solve the problem of what to do with vet rewards after 60 months - just not bother and say that continuing free access to the game is your loyalty reward

Ok. I'm entitled to Sands of Mu,the blackwand, the axe whatever, the little Elf thingies that buff me etc etc but not a purple enhancement?

What exactly are the awards about then?
How would you differenciate?

And I've been saying that the reason I think a purple MIGHT be fair is because anyone can get them but they're nice.

As you may notice, I, and my opinion counts here because I'm one of very few players on this side of the pond who is a 51 monther, am against vet awards that are inaccessable to anyone else.

Ahem. It's like this. if I drop the game, as I have, its common sense to stop paying. And Physcologically, If I do that, it's easier for me to distance myself from the game entirely.

In other words, I was kind of done with CoH but the fact I kept paying for it enabled me to log on again and get rehooked. In other, other words, the vet awards worked on me exactly as they were supposed to.

If I went to Sainsburys not Tescos then Sainsburys would get my money and Tescos wouldnt. And If I got used to going to Sainsburys maybe I'd drop Tescos entirely.

So, if you follow that logic both Tescos and CoH are quids in because of their loyalty cards and awards.

This really isnt worth debating about. It's straightforward business sense.

And what im saying for the 5th time is this.... if you decided to stop shopping at Tesco because of a health scare, the club card aint gonna change your mind.

[/ QUOTE ]

Whats that got to do with anything?
All that means is the Tesco club card alone wasnt enough to keep you in tesco, and you went to Sainsbury which is what im saying.

Same as when once and for all you decide to stop playing this game and move to WoW, vet rewards aint gonna, alone, keep you paying.

"Kind of done", aint finnished playing, "logging on now and then and getting re hooked" aint finnished playing either.

Done is done, when you aint gonna play no more.

Then if you want to carry on paying your subs for a game you dont intend to play again, just to get some vet rewards that you wont see, because your not playing anymore, thats great, a minority action, but none the less great and im happy for you.

And you can have the pleasure of saying vet rewards worked remarkably well on you.

Yep, they are rewards for your loyalty.

[/ QUOTE ]

Veteran rewards are a reward for playing the game for a certain length of time, they should be unique-ish, not things you can buy anyway.

Otherwise they might as well scrap them altogether (which i know is what you think is a good move) and just give us a badge instead.

I'd just like to add here that i dont care about the vet rewards one way or another, i think they are fine as they are, but i wouldnt care if they scrapped them.

[ QUOTE ]
And I've been saying that the reason I think a purple MIGHT be fair is because anyone can get them but they're nice.

And that defeats the idea of unique vet rewards.

Thats fine, just dont accept any of the rewards you are offered from the badge menu, and your concience will be clear.

Of course at some stage, the Vet rewards will have to stop as the game winds down to its natural conclusion, and that will probably give us a clue as to how much longer the servers will remain alive

Or, alternatively (but somewhat less likely), the Vet rewards will have to stop as the veterans wind down to their natural conclusion.
