Problem with the log in

I renewed my subscription to CoH earlier today after downloading the client and updating last night.

I tried to login, but got a message about server maintenance, which I checked and it turns out there is work being done until roughly 15:00 UK time. However I've tried logging in again, got an "incorrect password" message. I changed my password through the NCSoft Account management, but still it won't let me login.

I've read online that some people have changed the updater to cohupdater.eu.exe?

Please don't tell me I have to wait on a 3gig update again? Is there a faster way?

Been trying to log back in for the last 30 minutes after trying to alt to no avail. Every time I get the "Can't connect to DBserver." I've been getting it all day. Before I'd get in eventually after a few (or several) tries, but now it just won't let me in at all. Is the server full and getting clogged up? What's going on here?

I too keep getting the Server unable to connect when trying to login, I put in my password and then get the message telling me to check for server maintainence or whatever since I DLed the newest patch.

I haven't changed anything in my PC, have checked my driver's, run the file check on the game, restarted etc and nothing works.

You are currently in a Maintainance Window.

See here: http://eu.cityofheroes.com/en/news/maintenances/

City of Heroes has a server maintenance outage window reserved between 12pm-2pm British Time (13H00-15H00 Central European Time) on Thursday every week. During this time, you will not be able to access the game servers.

I am unable to load the game also, so it is not just you and it is not a problem your end.

Maybe they have had a overlap in maintenance?, not everything runs on time .

Guys, can everyone having the "Can't connect to DBserver" problems do me a favour?

I'm not qualified in any way, this is largely for my own curiosity, and this will likely not get you a solution, but...

Can everyone please do a traceroute(* see note below) to the following two IPs:

216.107.240.3
216.107.248.3

These are the data centres where the servers are hosted. If you start seeing 64.14.157.* type IPs in the traceroute, my wholly uneducated guess is that you're on the money.

Totally uneducated guess would be that if your packet can make it to the servers, the problem lies somewhere between the servers and you on the return trip. This might be a firewall, the servers having a tantrum, or something else entirely.

*NOTE*

To perform a traceroute in windows:

Go to your start menu
Open the "Run..." dialogue
Type in "cmd" and hit enter

This will open the command prompt. In the command prompt:

Type in "tracert" and hit enter

Please tell me if this doesn't work, since it's been quite a while since I was last on windows, and I have no idea how windows 7 or vista work

Well, gravedigging this thread...

I just don't understand why today, i can't acces to server list, or when on it, can't access to the server (DB connect loss) and when in game, lots of mapserved disconnections. It's no server maintenance time, when i log, i can see lot's of people IG.

Cox forums not working good as well...
Very annoying since i can't play and have biggest difficulty to tell it (took me 30 min to log/thread/reply)
----> problem at NC Soft server ? (this is not my provider, 100% certain)

Does anyone have same issues ?

Hmm. I keep getting a connection to server is lost when trying to access the server list. Do they have one of the update servers out of synch again?

Still here, even after all this time!

Okay, thought it was just me. And the day I renewed my main account... Guess I'll try again tomorrow.

My game doesnt even start! It stays on downloading manifest... on the launcher.

I have developed a routine for patches/updates that really works for me. (Please remember that sometimes they take a long time, especially the pigg. files. While it may not look like anything is moving, it is. Let it run its course.)
After the update is done I DEFRAG before I start the game. The files get so borked afterwards it's unreal.
Sometimes the files become corrupted, for whatever reason....go into the CoH folder and delete the coh.cheksum, then click your desktop shortcut and let the files rebuild. Do a dfrag, verify files and then start the game. These steps have worked without fail for me if I ran into a log in problem. Hope this will help others!

How do I stop my new launcher from launching the Test server by default? Very annoying...

I have a Windows 7 x64 laptop that used to run CoH just fine, just updated to the NCSoft Launcher, now it does it's thing and sticks at the blue "loading" rectangle and just stays there. No errors, no "Not Responding", no nothing. I've literally gone out to the supermarket and come home and it's still there.

Any ideas?

Have the same problem here. Downloaded the new launcher, and can't launch anything but test. A "cancel" button appears briefly, and it looks like I'm managing to click it before it goes away, but it goes ahead and launches onto Test, anyhow.

Make sure you are running the "CITY OF HEROES" game in the Launcher, not "CITY OF HEROES TEST".

Also, right click on the game in the Launcher and check the properties and make sure the "Install Location" is correct. If not, just click the Browse button and point it to the right place.

Having the same issue as above on a 32-bit Windows 7 machine as well. No errors, no crashes, but nothing happens.

If anyone else encounters this, the solution here was very simple: instead of pressing the big "Play now" button at the bottom left, just right click on "City of Heroes" in the list of installed games, and select "Play now" from the context menu. For some reason the "Play now" button doesn't work but that does.

I can't click on anything in the launcher. The launcher only appears for a fraction of a second, then it goes away and test server starts to load. Not long enough to click on anything, and not enough time to check it's properties.

Sounds like your shortcut is not for just the Launcher, but for the Test install using the Launcher.

Right-click on the Launcher and select Properties.

In the Target: box, make sure it reads similar to the following:

C:\Program Files (x86)\NCSoftLauncher\NCLauncher.exe

Of course, the beginning part of that will depend on where you have the Launcher installed to. The important part is to make sure that NCLauncher.exe is the very last thing on the Target: line. If there is anything after that, delete it.

Make sure that the Start in: box is just the path to the Launcher. Using the above example it would be C:\Program Files (x86)\NCSoftLauncher

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I'm one of that unfortunate fellows, who have SP2 log in problem, plenty of us here have this annoyance. What most of us wish for, is some developers customer attention, for some significant reasons (important software incompatible with sp3 for example) we can't just install sp3. If there no other option, a lot of players may suspend their subscription .
