PvP Tanks
Ice Armour/Energy Melee is supposed to be very good (Ice for +perception, self heal, PBAOE slow/-damage, endurance recovery/drain and Hibernate; Energy for very high burst damage). I played an Ice/Ice in the Test Server lvl 40 event and it was great fun and very effective at staying alive so I could see how coupling the survivability of ice/ with the damage of /energy would be an impressive combination.
Btw, from my limited experience with it at high level I'd recommend ice/ice as a fun build for PvP - Ice Patch is a very useful tool at times and the slows from the secondary stack nicely with chilling embrace. The secondary lacks the burst damage of some of the other sets but when your enemy is running away from you at snails pace you have plenty of opportunity to land your hits.

Fire/ss is a very nice tank in pvp
invulnur/Em and fire/em as well as ice/em are very good
all has pro and cons
invulnur has repel resistance.
ice has slow resistance
fire has + damage.
My main is Fire/SS and i must admit its fairly good in PvP.
The only thing it has no chance against is anything with fear or multiple holds (like a Ninja/Dark MM for example).
Also i seem to get completely owned by Spines/Regen regardless of having the Perma-Rage/Hasten/Fiery Embrace/KO Blow combo.
Spines/Regens are really starting to annoy me and a lot seem to think Tanks are easy targets. This is why I am looking for a build that will stand up to them or at least give them a hard time.
Tanks rule no matter what anyone says and I'm trying to prove that lol
it's very hard to kill a regen solo with a tank. you were fighting my scrapper spine shooter. it would have been a tie if you just ran and healed.
What type of tank would you have a tough time killing then?
And with Impale I don't think I could've run very far lol

He said bad regen. If the regen lets that happen, hes a bad regen. No tank can beat a regen. It doesnt matter if its Fire/nrg, Ice/SS or what it is. Also be said, Im not sure a scrapper can beat a tank.
We are talking about arena 1on1's with rated rules right?

Well depends on build vs build given enough time and to the OP impale wont immob a tank.

I can recomend a Ice/Energy tanker, there very good for PvP/Arena. I absoultely love mine. Very good defense and not to shabbt attack power.
I'd use a combo of Invul, Ice or Fire with SS or Nrg secondary. Invul has good survivability with repel resistance. Ice has great survivability with added slowing, end drain and slow resistance. Fire has less survivability, but has improved damage. All are vulnerable to confuse, fear and stacked mezzes, so there's no fixing that except for bringing break free's.
Superstrength has good damage and it has Rage, which is fantastic. Energy Melee has great burst damage, which is very handy in PVP. Superstrength matures a bit faster, because it gets it's good powers earlier, so it's very usable in Siren's Call. Energy Melee doesn't get it's best powers until after lv 30.
As for beating a Spines/Regen scrapper, well that might be a bit difficult on any Tank. Tanks and Scrappers should have a very difficult time killing each other. I'd even say that the Spiney has a slight advantage as it can attack from range, while the tank cannot(except maybe for Hurl, which is too slow). I don't think you'll be killing a Spines/Regen on any Tank, unless that Spines/Regen is really really bad.
As for team PVP, you will notice that nobody will attack anything, unless they are absolutely sure they can kill it. This will mean that as a Tank, you won't get attacked much, if at all. So you'll have to make sure that people will attack you, or else they will just ignore you always and simply go for all the squishies. So get Taunt and slot it heavily.
Was going to respec my tank to this as soon as i got another free one, to make it a bit more PvP orientated.

have put in hurl boulder to take down those pesky flyers and have managed to squeeze in tactics before 30 by leaving my non toggle defenses until later, this is going to be a little bit risky with the toggle drop of AS but if i can take the initial strike i should be able to kill the stalker (a little bit hopefull with only 3 attacks!!) The main problem with stone melee is the how late seismic smash comes along.
This build should work ok in Warburg but in SC the lack of damage is going to be a problem unless im in a team.
A lot of ppl say unstoppable is a waste in PvP but i have found it a lifesaver a few times and while getting ganked can save your life and let you take down 1 or 2 in a no retreat no surrender sort of way.

here's what i'd do if i had fire/ss the great think about ss is rage which will make you able to hit through debuffs. tehre for you can go with ice epic and get ice blast to get some more ranged damage
the last two powers you can take pretty much anything you'd like
taunt is supposed to be slotted 2 acc 2 dur 2 recharge and challaenge 2 acc 2 duration but my planners doesn't allow accuracy.
also with rage you can taunt those pesky sr refles scrapper which is hard if you dont have foccused accuracy.
brings a point up, did they ever explain why they put an ACC check on tanker taunt after they reduced its duration down in pvp anyway?
taunts a verbal effect (if its not i wanna see a tank mooney animation!), surely the only way to avoid the taunt would be to be wearing hear muffs (i wanna see pink fluffy ear muffs temp power in pvp).
mind you same could be said for all other taunts

Invuln/SS if you like to PvP at Sirens level (or maybe /Stone if you dont want to do /SS again). Any combination of Ice/, Fire/ or Invuln/ and /Fire, /Stone or /SS for level 50. A Fire/Fire would be nice, and different.
If you still want to do /Energy be aware that you will lack damage in a big way at Siren's Call level. After that though nothing competes in the damage department (except maybe Fire/Fire (I'm not quite sure what percentage damage increase Fiery Embrace gives to Fire and other damage, anyone?)).

Hero Builder says that Fiery Embrace gives an additional bonus of 100%dmg for 10 seconds non-fire, and 20 seconds additional bonus for fire type attacks. however my hero builder has not been updated in a while, perhaps before I7 so it might and most probably has been changed

It has been.. "Hot Chills" gets more DMG with Burn when he uses FE FIRST (if you use it after Burn the DMG tick doesn't kick in) and as well as Blazing Aura running.
Ice Melee gets a lil dmg from it but nothing much that I notice otherwise.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanyway...getti n back to the thread (after that rather freaky interlude ), what would your thought be on a stone/energy melee?
i can kinda guess a lot of you will mention when in granite your DMG and ATK speed is pointless for PvP, so what about just having the other armours on and rooted and stuff like that.
I don't know much about stone/? tankers so if you could just prod me in the right direction...(gently though)
I just wanted to know what you all thought was the best build for a PvP Tank and why.
I am a tank player and I absolutely love PvP so I was thinking of making one specifically for PvP...but I don't have a clue where to begin.
Your thoughts and input are greatly appreciated
