Maniac Slammers...

...Was on an AE team tonight trying to level my Rad/rad. Yeah, I know.... but I want to level her fast and etc. etc. etc.

So I'm on one of those infamous "BOSS FARM TEAMS!!" [ho-hum] and we zone in, and whaddya know its a Maniac Slammers mission.

One guy on the team let out this absolutely horrid string of invective at the mere sight of them. It was hilarious, not least because everyone else on the team admitted to feeling the same way. Then he cussed about them the whole way through the mission too. I admit it added interest to a really dull mission.

Tonight was a hoot, not least due to every team I was on but one expecting a level 9, 10 or 11 Tank to tank level 53s. LOL!

"Erm.... I think we need another tank. Keep the one we have now, but you can't expect a level 9 to tank 53s, c'mon have a heart. We need a 50."

"We're all auto-SKed, we'll be fine." *SLEDGEHAMMER TO THE FACE of the level 9....!*

Bwa-hahahaha! Let jocularity rule... Man, I am nostalgic for the good ol' days when we ran Battle Maiden 50 times in a row. No joke.

Those are exactly the sorts of teams my 49 Spines/DA Toggle-Man-inspired Scrapper has been painfully playing pseudo-tank on. The tank runs in on the first mob expecting to tank and gets smushed by the alpha, and from then on I end up leading the charge and hoping not to faceplant when I absorb the alphas.

These days I'm even happy to get on a team doing Striga missions just to not be on an AE team. And I hate Striga.

[/ QUOTE ]This has happened more times that i care to remember.

i was on a Maniac Slammers team the other day for a while. The team was mostly in the 30's, so things went fairly well, though we did have few near teamwipes. Still, it didn't take long for it to get boring. i can only join that sort of mission very occasionally.

It gets boring quickly.

Anyone mind explaining what this is exactly? As someone who very rarely does MA unless I want to see a cool story arc I am unaware of "Maniac Slammers."

I was going to ask the same thing.

Teams are the number one killer of soloists.

They're one of the standard bosses that people like to farm, because they have very few attacks.

One thing I wonder- when we're fighting custom bosses, WHY oh WHY are they always dual blade wielders?

I still pull out either my 50 kat/inv scrap or my 50 ss/inv brute to tank for these boss missions. They do all smashing damage, my best resisted/defended type. :^)

Good times, and the teams appreciate my contribution to keeping them vertical.

Basically too many 50's to count, but I'm generally a brute/scrapper/tank kind of guy.

[/ QUOTE ]If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say it was probably because it's all lethal damage, which is highly resisted, and there's not that much to begin with*. The only real threat from DB is the Combos, which the AI has problems with, trying to chain A>B>Doom, especially when they don't have 'B'.

Q: How do you wreck an Abrams?

A: You crash into another one.

Basically, Dual Blades custom characters are gimp. People often use them when they want to go easy on people.

Expecting a nerf to Maniac Slammer XP any patch now. Even if it's AE-exclusive, the devs probably love that.

I wouldn't be surprised if Custom Critters in general were to get reduced rewards. I'm not calling for it, just expecting it. Perhaps also for custom factions with critters hand-picked from existing main-game factions.

Every now and then, you'll encounter Custom Critters that use Fire damage, and if there is also mention of Fire damage critters specificly in the mission description, then I bet that the author has a character with the Fiery Armor powerset, especially if the arc is one mission long on a "unique map".

They have two attacks that I know of, but when those two attacks connect, they really hurt. I mean, REALLY hurt. They can overwhelm a team pretty quickly if things go the least bit wrong, so these missions are not without risk. BORING, true enough, but risky, esp. if they are 53s.

It just seems that these days, its Maniac Slammers or nothing. OR, its an outdoor map full of Lts. called "Lakeys," and each group contains a boss called "Meh Boss." With every group, the boss tells you, "I guess I'm not gonna get to farm you :-0" All NPC's heads are glowing pink. ZzzzZZZZZzzzzz.

I have really been mostly staying out of AE lately due to being fed up with it.... the other night my SG ran a GM-badge-hunt event, and it was so great to do something with other people that was *outside* of that stupid building. 'Cause if you are on a team, pretty much you don't leave the AE bldg.

The whole mess gives me a renewed appreciation of developer content, because 95% of player missions I have seen are just plain bad.

I had a DB Scrapper that I deleted at 24, I felt she was so weak. I have a level 19 DB Brute who has stayed so far, because she feels less weak. I was really displeased with the Scrapper version. I know a lot of people like it, but its not for me. Broadsword is annoyingly slow, but as least you get to do some damage.

That's an idea they could work with, since they seemingly insist on allowing all-Lt and all-boss maps.

Yeah, a terrible idea since people just farm standard mobs.

Aslong as AE gives XP, there is always going to be a low risk, high reward mission available. If they want to go down the route of nerfing the latest farm fad 2 weeks after it became infamous, then we can expect to have this discussion repeated until the next millenium.

Personally I don't care about the xp. I just dislike the silly "Noob" culture that it creates in atlas park, and the fact that 50% of the online population is sat in one zone.

Well, it would be expected to reduce rewards on some, but not all of the things being farmed, then wait a few months before doing anything else.

Yup. I like fighting Maestro and occasionaly doing that TF that ends up in the Volcano (even though it has a disappointing conclusion) but I hate the zone and most of the missions I've been on there.

It's a terrible idea because custom critters that are NOT used for farming are often more difficult than standard critters, especially at lower levels. They have too many attacks, and the secondary effects of said attacks are insanely powerful in some cases and don't scale by level.

As a general rule, custom critters are more difficult than the standard NPCs, especially after all the changes that have been made to reduce farming of said custom critters. It'd kind of suck to get less reward for more risk just because one or two variants are easier, but that's how things seem to go around here.

I say leave things as is. Farming Maniac Slammers isn't really much of an exploit. They still hit hard enough to be a threat. If people are that willing to log into a game to have another tedious job, that's okay. Farming doesn't bother me.

But there are three things that do bother me:

1) Rampant exploitation of targets way out of the risk/reward parameters (fixed for now at least, it seems);

2) People who PL new players (not much for the Devs to do there--that's a player choice, just one that I personally don't like, and thus never do);

3) Very little incentive to go about testing arcs that aren't 5-starred.

Point 3 is the one that I want the Devs to address somehow. The MA is kind of...how should I put it...IMO, not meeting its goals if it's not promoting arcs from apparent nobodies as well as the ones with already notable quality. I think the MA is about 80% (yes, random pulled-out-of-hat number) as good as it'll ever be. I just hope that the Devs will think about it a bit and keep working at it to help highlight all kinds of arcs.

You're not going to see any real "nerfs" to Architect experience before they can see what I16's difficulty setting changes do to farming and the Architect Babies (the Winter Lord Babies of 2009). You might see another push to ban more farm arcs, but core changes to the system will likely have to wait.

I bet we see AE farmers pushing their difficulty to the max, and wondering why they get constantly wiped.

Sucks for them. REALLY I have NO Sympathy for these people. They do NOT know anything about the game I love. I fell inlove with this game BEFORE the AE. I have done all there is to do so many times over and over, and I stick with this game because no other game makes me happy and gives me fun.

Who cares if the AE brats get constantly wiped out.

I hope our DEVS are smart enough to know who is a credible person to listen to...

Someone who have done it all with this game...

Or

Some _ _ _ _ _ who has never been out of ATLAS PARK.

The part of AE farming that bothers me the most (I know, I know, but we all have our things, right?) is the constant broadcast of "need hlr and tank" or "need damage". They're so set in the team buildouts because of the risk, that they won't just put together teams to play.

And, as Nethergoat mentioned, why don't they just negate all-boss or all-LT missions? That would go a long way on cutting down AE farming.
