Starting at 8:00AM CST - 10:00AM CST on Thursday 7/16 all US Servers for City of Heroes will be brought down for a publish.

We expect the downtime to last 2 hours but please allow for early release or an extension as necessary. Always check the Server Status page for complete details.

**This build is to fix the broken animations in Character creation and tailor screens.

Thank You! Not only does this give me the notice we've asked for , but it gives us hope that this annoyance will be fixed in the morning.

now that is a quick turnaround for a bug. Cheers!

Excellent. We know in advance not to start anything with a time limit. We also know that there will be a fix to something broken which is quite annoying. Speaking as someone who spends more time mucking with base/costumes than playing, I'm very pleased both by the fix and the communication.

Thank you.

Okay, I have to ask this.

If a fix for the animations was available this quickly, wouldn't it have made more sense to have waited 1 day to release the SuperScience Booster pack without the bugs?

Yeah, I know people have been whining all over the forums that it isn't available yet, when will it be here, etc. But 1 day to have a fix and it gets pushed out buggy anyway?

If it was something that was going to take several days, I "might" be able to understand not waiting, but 1 day? Seriously?

Someone take a pipe wrench and beat the Marketing people over the head repeatedly, please.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

They probably have limited control on when NCSoft turns on the billing for this sort of thing. If the billing was up, people bought the booster, then couldn't access it in-game... Well, that would obviously be bad.

You do know that the server status page is broken, right? That as soon as the auto-update script runs, it goes back to the server status on June 24th?

NCSoft owns the whole shebang. Why would they not have control of when the billing is turned on?

That's a Marketing thing if someone is saying "It must be released on X date".

We've had plenty of other items that weren't released until they were ready or at least the known bugs weren't going to be such a simple fix as to delay the release by 1 whole day.

Paragon Studios is the "new" name of the NC² offices. If you aren't sure where the NC² came from, it is NCNC or NCSoft NorCal (Northern California). Aside from the name change (and the hiring of more staff) nothing has really changed about who owns what.

Maybe it's simply because the programmer wasn't able to identify the cause of the bug in time. They decided to publish since the bug is VERY minor and doesn't affect gameplay or anything important in itself. Then the programmer realized the bug was a simple fix that he hadn't thought about and quickly fixed it, tested it and it was released the day after.

Being a computer tech I know how a simple ; at the end of a line can be missed 20 times before someone sees it. it's called tunnel vision if I remember well, you see the same code so often that you "assume" something is right and you don't actually see the error until you take a break ( 5 min to a couple hours) and when you come back you find the bug and fix it ..... then you think how stupid you were not to have seen it before.

hopefully you will be forgoing the server maintenance on Friday??????
Considering the servers went down 3 times so far this week

Little less conversation - little more action please

If only it had been fixed before the patch that was pushed yesterday went Live. It wasn't like SOME OF US didn't /bug it while it was still on test. One day of delay on yesterday's patch would have saved everyone from 2 mornings of down time.

Which hurts the most if morning is the only time you really have to play. Shut it down from 8PM to 10PM instead, just once, is all I ask.

I agree they should cancel the downtime friday but that isnt going to happen. Hopefully the downtime is small though.

An even better question, with the fixes of these bugs so fast when will they be fixing the manticore and statesman Task Force bugs?

I'm feeling too lazy to dig up the post, but either BABs or Castle said that this bug was tricky because it couldn't be reproduced in-house with the build they were testing with. Somehow, something in this one particular build caused the bug to trigger, and stopped triggering when they updated their internal builds. So you have a bug that can't be reproduced by QA or programmers, and which is build-specific. Maybe, just maybe, that's why it took them some time to get it sorted out?

It was BAB who said it, the bug was odd because it was not happining on there Dev Server but did happen on live.

Here you go.

They may have just decided to push the next build live since it apparently fixed, or rather stopped triggering, the bug.

Of course, it's easier to complain and ask questions over and over than it is to actually look for an answer that's already been given. Just an observation. (not directed at you, Goliath)
